“A local treasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2013

This is a find in tiny Mawnan Smith. Giuseppe greeted us at the door at opening time as if we were regulars, which most of his customers are. This real mom-and-pop operation is obviously a cherished neighborhood fixture. The food is pretty simple but well prepared. I had gnocchi with tomato sauce and pan-fried local bream with tomatoes and garlic; my wife had minestrone soup, and sea bass. We shared a large bowl of crisp potatoes, carrots, and broccoli and desserts of blueberry panna cotta and ginger ice cream. All of the dishes were better than expected. More than anything else, however, the place had a wonderful feel − like a friend’s very comfortable dining room, and the friend is also a superior cook

“Excellent meal and service to match.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2013

This was our second visit to this restaurant and the food was excellent on both occasions. It is refreshing to have a meal which has so many flavours and not something that has been in the freezer and microwaved. Giuseppe also took the time to come into the restaurant and chatted to all the customers. Giuseppe exudes charm and the waitresses provide a quick and efficient service.

“Italian at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2013

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Square in Mawnan Smith, this Restaurant represent really excellent value for money. Whilst reflecting the owner / chef's Italian heritage the menues are varied, prepared to order from locally sourced ingedients and competitively priced. Giusppe and Dinah have been on this site for over 20 years and long may they continue.

“Comforting and friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2013

This was our first visit to Giuseppe's. It's undoubtedly old-fashioned, but that's a deliberate part of its charm. They also stagger the bookings so that the kitchen can cope so we were asked if we could come 15 minutes later than we planned. That's fine - they told us upfront and it meant that our starters came promptly rather than sitting for a quarter of an hour wondering when they would arrive. They also give you your table for the evening so you won't be rushed out of the door.

We had a selection of starters between us and all were excellent. There is a specials board which is well worth trying so three of us had main courses from that. All were very good indeed, and we managed to make some space for a delicious homemade tiramisu or roulade afterwards. For four people, including a bottle of wine and coffee, it came to under £150.

There's an emphasis on fish, but plenty of meat dishes too. Don't expect lasagne or ravioli - on our visit the only pasta dish was tortelloni - but the fishcakes are superb.

It's also nice to have Giuseppe visit your table to hear for himself what you thought, and his waitresses are very friendly. Dinner here is an evening out, not a feeding session.

“Very impressed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

I went to have a nice birthday meal with my family and that is what I got. I felt the atmosphere was very pleasant. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We were made very welcome by them all. I had salmon pancakes and then pork for the main, both were excellent. Compared to other local restaurants I feel it is good value for money. I will certainly return again.
