We stay for 3 nights at this property in April '09 as part of an organised tour.
Let's make this very clear from the start. It is a budget hotel and you get what you paid for. However, it is not really a complain but rather a caveat on the rest of the review.
Ibis Centrum is located minutes from the central town square. It is a very pleasant walk to the cafes and bars around the square and the first time you see the Leuven Town Hall will be memorable.
It is not a big property, it is fairly compact both inside and out but it does it with uber efficiency. The rooms are small but it is a study of how to pack as much of the mod cons that a modern day traveller expects in a small space. Each room has an en suite with toilet, basin and shower. There is no bath tub but everything is very well equiped and user friendly.
The room has reverse cycle air conditioning and the bed(s) are comfy. There are some street noise as it is situated on the main road leading to the town square but if you keep the window shut, the noise is well isolated. I have read other reviews commenting on noises from adjoining rooms but I did not experience any issue in that department so may be we were lucky. The room ticks all the boxes in terms of inclusions. There is an iron and ironing board at one end of the corridor per floor.
There is wireless internet but you have to purchase an access card (various prices for different plans). One interesting fact is that the access card/code is valid in France as well so I ended up using the same account over a number of days and from different locations in 2 countries so it worked out well.
There is a smallish dinning area on the ground floor (it is not a real restaurant) which sort of doubles up as a customer lounge in the evening if you want to socialise with friends (alcoholic drinks available). Breakfast is taken there and light meals/snacks are available 24hrs a day.
There is a car park on site. The entrance to the car park is via a fairly small entrance so big cars/SUV might have problem accessing that area. If in doubt, ask.
Staff are multilingual and fairly efficient. They do multiple roles so they don't have a lot of time to chitchat but that's not an issue.
In summary, the hotel is not suitable for long stay, families with young kids nor travellers with lots of luggage. If you want space and luxury then it is not for you. But after travelling through several European countries and staying in some cheap and nasty hotels, this is a nice place to base your Leuven visit as long as you are out and about most of the day.
