“Great, quiet and perfect location”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

the most unfortunate thing about this quaint little stay was that we could not stay longer.
the owners / managers are the best at accommodating you with anything you need, they are kind and very informative.
The location of this stay could not be more perfect for those wanting to explore Brugge and its surroundings.
The rooms are wonderful, fully equipped, clean and very comfortable. to top is off.. the breakfast included and free WiFi was great.
I would most certainly recommend this place to anyone who would ask.

Huis 't Shaep is well-located, clean, elegantly furnished and decorated, with excellent bathrooms, including great showers, and has excellent breakfasts. I loved the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.

John and Rob are excellent hosts whose knowledge of the city will enhance your stay. Do follow their suggestions for where to eat. We ate at Couvert and Kardinaalshof, both of which were very good choices.

A tip on getting there: Driving in Bruges is difficult. Huis 't Shaep is actually not hard to find. But study your city map before you get there. You make several turns within a couple of minutes. In particular, you must turn right before the cathedral, then right again in a short time. Then give your bags to John and Rob and park your car in the underground garage that they will give you directions to. After that, you can freely enjoy the city of Bruges on foot.

Huis 't Shaep is near the main shopping street and a ten minute walk to the main square, a fine location. We certainly will go back if we return to Bruges.

Room Tip: The best room, the Cocke Suite, is on the second floor, up a narrow, winding staircase. If you are a...

Had a wonderful 3 night stay here, stayed at four hotels during our trip to Belgium and this was by far the best, a beautiful place with great location, host was very friendly and helpful and like others have commented the breakfasts were of the highest quality, thoroughly recommend staying here.

My wife and I loved our stay here; it was perfect in every way from the welcome, accommodations, quality of the breakfast and even the sublte classical music that played while we ate. The owners couldn't have been more helpful. Brugge is a beautiful and historic place to visit and the location made it easy to walk everywhere. We have traveled extensively throughout Europe and this is among the best, if not the best place, we have stayed in. Don't miss out!

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful two night stay here, and it was truly sad to leave! Huis 't Schaep was hands down our best B&B experience ever. The house is historic, charming, and impeccably clean. Our room, the Coucke suite was appointed in a tasteful and comfortably grand manner, with a beautiful and fully updated bathroom. Each morning's breakfast was a delicious feast, with plenty of choice to suit one's tastes. And best of all, our hosts John and Rob provided warm and attentive hospitality that made the whole stay that much more memorable.

We highly recommend Huis 't Schaep and we look forward to returning soon. It is the perfect place from which to explore the amazing city of Bruges!

Was recently on a two week jaunt around 4 cities in Europe, and I can confidently say that Huis 't Schaep was my favourite stay, given the rich heritage of Samuel Coucke's painstakingly preserved family home. The location is easy to navigate based on Rob's email sent prior to arrival. Hosts John and Rob were impeccably polite, professional and hospitable. From the personal door code to the decor of the rooms, it felt like a home rather than being put up for the night. The Rembrandt suite was huge, more so than I expected, and can be described as thoughtful - cotton buds by the sink, towel hook on the opposite end of the shower stall, hair dryer next to the claw foot bath tub. Breakfast was made to order and very lovely. I opted for a two hour tour as well, at an additional cost, and it was well worth to have a guide bring you around the little nooks and crannies. Upon checking out, John lugged my ginormous luggage down the stairs for me. Did not quite believe the sterling ratings on tripadvisor initially, but now I conclude that Huis 't Schaep is indeed all this and more.

My husband and I enjoyed a one night stay in Bruges at this beautiful bed & breakfast. The owner, John, emailed us before our stay and gave us directions to both the hotel and the closest parking garage. The email also gave us a specific time to check in, but we could have easily made arrangements to change the time if it didn't suit. The hotel decor and antique furnishings are lovely, and the bathroom was thoroughly modern. We enjoyed the honors bar and deck seating area that was right next to our room. Breakfast was served by John and freshly prepared to order in their kitchen. We had fruit salad, yogurt with caramelized apples, tomato and basil frittata, cappucino, freshly squeezed orange juice, and assorted breads. We turned down the offer of meats and cheeses, as we were too full! It was also nice to have a chance to talk with John during breakfast. He shared some interesting stories about the history of the house and life in Bruges. When he found out we were traveling to Vianden Luxembourg, he recommended a place for us to stop for lunch, and even when online to check and make sure it was open! He clearly takes pride in sharing his beautiful home with the lucky few who happen to find out about this place!
