“A Grand Hotel in a Grand setting.”
Reviewed 21 November 2011

The Grand Hotel Casselbergh is a very opulent hotel set in the heart of Bruges. The hotel itself consists of 2 parts an original building and a recent rear extension. The original building hosts the reception, bar and lounge area’s along with some of the bedrooms and the extension houses meeting rooms, bedrooms and the breakfast room.
Our room was classified as a Quality room which meant that it overlooked the canal and was situated in the extension. The room was very well laid out with a large bathroom (separate shower and bath) and lots of room. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and large. Although modern some sympathies have been shown towards the old style of the original building and everything was well finished.
Breakfast is a buffet affair with a very good choice and quality offerings. Eggs (scrambled and boiled), sausages, bacon (American style – thin & crispy), cold meats, 5 different types of cheese, fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, pastries, etc.
The bar and lounge areas are both stunning and comfortable. The official 4 star rating is well deserved; I have stayed in poorer 5 star hotels. A small gym and sauna are available in the basement and the staff were both friendly and helpful.
If you are looking for Hotel that has a definite touch of class this one is highly recommended.
I look forward to a return visit soon!

Room Tip: Rooms on the reception level have a limited canal view due to the hotel not being direct on the cana...

Bruges is a small quaint town loaded with tourists.
We adored our (4) night stay since it allowed us to relax at this centrally located historical Hotel, while taking in the Tourists sites on a leisurely pace. Our fully equipped average sized room was located in the new section. It provided us beautiful views of the canal and over the roof tops of the historic town - definetely recommend.
The breakfast buffet is substantial allowing you to start the day on the right track.
Highly recommend this Hotel!

We stayed at this hotel 11-14th November 2011. Hotel was very good, everything looked new and clean, room was very nice, stayed in a standard room in the new block which was good. Even had UK television. BBC1, ITV1 which was great. The staff could have been more helpfull. Brugge itself is nice, but very expensive to eat out. Breakfast at the hotel was superb, plenty to choose from and a wondeful modern restaurant. Only drawback of hotel was that their was no room service, and no restaurant in the evening. Nice bar and lounge, and a nice roaring fire which was cosy. Would definately recommend.

Hotel was ideally situated off the main Square in Bruges. Excellent comfortable room with good bathroom and shower facilities. Friendly and helpful staff and enjoyed the gymnasium and well being centre in the cellar (not everyones cup of tea on holiday I know but for an hour's peace and quiet before evening meal/walk etc it was ideal). Breakfast was well stocked and plenty of choices for either warm or cold breakfasts. Good position to explore the romantic beauty of Bruges with many restaurants in the vicinity there was no need to walk far for a choice of different cuisines. Definitely stay there again.

The Hotel is well located only minutes a way from the Square but is quiet. Beds are very comfortable and everywhere is clean. Good choice at breakfast. Public rooms full of old world charm. The one downside is the lack of staff- wait to check in, bar not always staffed, wait at the breakfast room etc. Decor is 5 star, service is 2 star.

Wonderful hotel near the heart of Bruges. The room was large, quiet and overlooked an interior courtyard. The bathroom was also large with a separate tub and shower and a spa-like feel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The included buffet breakfast was also excellent with many different options to choose from, both hot and cold It was a close walk to the Market area of Bruges with lots of restaurants and shops nearby (chocolate, yum!).

Nice room, close to the center, very good breakfast.
Reception are not very freindly - as we read in trip advisor regarding other small hotels.
Pricy for over season.

Room Tip: Take the canal view side.
