“Just Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed here in early January looking for a quiet break after a busy Christmas. The hotel was everything we were looking for and more. From our first arrival staff were friendly, professional and efficient. The rooms were clean, warm and the toiletries were very nice. The hotel also had a lovely relaxing atmosphere about it with soothing music being played throughout the corridors and in the lounge rooms. As part of our package we were also offered a glass of cava which was lovely on our first night and encouraged us to go into the clean quiet bar. Breakfast was a good spread, every day we ate well and were not hungry again until mid afternoon! Finally I would recommend going down to the health suit if you get time. The sauna is a lovely way to relax or just take a book and relax on a lounger in the beautiful brick basement with its own trees! You can pick up a robe and towel from reception so you don't have to use your own however you do need to change in your rooms. The location of the hotel is perfect being just a five minute walk from the market square and a two minute walk from a lovely bar which has a menu of over 400 beers and some wonderful food. All in all we found what we were looking for in a relaxing break away, the beds were comfy and we came back well rested and feeling ready to face 2012! I would definitely go back and stay in this hotel and have no complaints what so ever other than I wish we had stayed another night.

Room Tip: If you can get a canal view room they are very quiet

My husband and I stayed in this lovely hotel in December 2011. Everything was just as it should be - clean, inviting, welcoming, charming and atmospheric. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. We were especially lucky to have an executive room which was very spacious and quiet. The hotel is positioned directly on the road side and a few minutes walk from the squares, shops and entertainment. It had a lovely spa. The only downside, but it didn't bother us as we liked to sample other restaurants, is that it doesn't have it's own restaurant for dinner although the breakfasts are great. We'd use this hotel again like a shot.

A pair of 18th Century merchant houses were turned into an elegant hotel around 6 or 7 years ago, and what an impressive conversion. The public rooms have great style and opulence. The reception staff are a mixed bunch who find it difficult to maintain eye contact. I fell down 6 marble steps near the reception area and skinned both shins. A combination of wet weather, leather soles and some very hard and sharp marble steps. The matter was dealt with in a perfunctory manner by the young man who really wasn't in the mood for an incident.
My wife loved the size and bedroom layout in the old building, and the bar manager with a ballerina daughter was a character worth a conversation or two. The breakfast was well organised and tasty.
As long as you wear deck shoes and shin guards when walking around the ground floor, the visit should be pleasant and injury free.

Room Tip: Pay extra for the old building upgrades.

Stayed in this great old hotel just one short block off the markt. It was a fantastic experience from the sumptious hot and cold breakfast to the comfortable beds and bathrooms and friendliness of the staff. We were in Bruges on a layover between the U.S. and Tanzania to get over jet lag for a few days before tackling a safari and Bruges was the perfect location. The hotel has been refurbished in the last few years but it retains its classical elegance with its newest layer of comfort. The beds were semi firm and there was enough room to walk around them without bumping into walls. The marble bathrooms have shower-tubs with clothes lines for those who may want to rinse something out. It is within walking distance of almost everything one would want to see or visit in Bruges. Do pamper yourself; this may be a better hotel for adults.

This hotel was located in the heart of the city. Everything is really within the walking distance from the hotel. Since Brugge is quite a nice and small city, this hotel is the perfect place to stay for walking and enjoy the beautiful view of Brugge. For the price, we stayed for 2 persons and got a very good rate at 103 Euros per night including tax and breakfast buffet.

As for service, don't expect anything extraordinary. This is not Four seasons or the Ritz-Carlton.

We stayed here with 8 friends on a weekend trip to the christmas market. We have seen most of europe but somehow have missed Bruges out although have driven past on a few occasions.
What a gem this place is, only a short drive from Calais and it's probably europes most beautiful city with a simular but cosier feel as Prague. The whole moated city feels like a film set, it really is a fatastic place.
The hotel was so well placed to take strolls around the city, everything is close to hand. Don't go for the christmas market, it is pants! but as a city trip this should be top of your list and the grand hotel Casselbergh will give you luxurious accommodation and a wonderful cooked breakfast.
The beds were so comfortable we got the name of it and purchased one on our return to the UK.
my advice, go to bruges and stay here! you will not be dissapointed!!

Room Tip: there is an old part and new part to this hotel, i would recommend the new part.

Visited Bruges for the Xmas market and only visited for one night, so this may have impacted my view. This is an excellent hotel with a central location, but when you are in town for less than 24 hours it is completely over the top.

The public areas are very traditional and ornate. The open fire in the bar/lounge was very nice, but you had to be there at the right time to bag the prime position! Prices in the bar were very reasonable for the quality of the hotel.

Our room was in the modern extension at the back. The room was large and comfortable, The en suite was spacious and well appointed, with L'occitiaine toiletries provided.

All in all an excellent hotel, but for a central crash pad for one night - too expensive.
