“Peaceful elegance in a busy city”
Reviewed 14 March 2014

From the moment that you walk through the front doors of this hotel and leave the bustle of Bruges behind you find yourself surrounded by a feeling of historical elegance, coupled with modern efficiency. We arrived by car, and the very good garaging facility underneath the hotel, accessed by car lift, immediately gave a feeling of security. The ability to unload luggage in a dry environment, (it was raining heavily when we first arrived), and also to make subsequent trips back to the car as and when needed is a luxury in Bruges and one that cannot be over-rated. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are of a good size, with plenty of character and well equipped. The buffet breakfast was exceptionally good.

The hotel has retained many of the architectural features of the original buildings, and this could cause problems for anyone with mobility issues. There are lifts in the hotel, but many of the rooms require further flights of stairs to be negotiated. With advanced notice I'm sure a room could be requested that is easily accessible, but this did not appear in the hotel information that we accessed before making our booking. We made this booking on line in advance, and this made our stay good value, if we'd paid the full price this would not have been the case, as, like most things in Bruges, the normal price was very expensive.

The location of this hotel must make it one of the best in this beautiful old city, virtually in the centre but slightly off the popular routes for both pedestrians and traffic.

Room Tip: If you have any mobility issues, however small these may be, it is worth mentioning these when booki...

We stayed at this hotel in March 2014 and were impressed on all counts. We would not go anywhere without checking it out on Trip advisor first so were a little wary when we read a few bad reports on the Hotel but booked anyway on all the goof reports and we were not dissappointed. The hotel was wonderful, we have a great room in the new side on the top floor over looking the street. The room was superb , great bathroom, the cleanliness was great, the staff were very friendly and were happy to help with any thing. The breakfast room was lovely and the choice well you could not ask for more ! the location is superb literally a 1 minute walk to the central Markt. great value as well. Will certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are very quiet

I would recommend Grand hotel Casselbergh as one of the best places to stay in Bruges. It takes about 20 minutes walk from Central station, but as it is difficult to walk the cobbled streets and tug your suitcase, better take a taxi - it costs 7-8 EUR. The rooms are very good. For those who decide to choose the option with canal view - just be aware that there is a parking / garden between the hotel and the canal, so it is not directly on the canal. Bathroom is spacious and had both a shower cabin and a bath tube. Breakfast was very good as well. Staff is helpful and friendly.
Location is just next to the Burg - in the heart of town. There is also a very good bar at the hotel for those willing to try there the Belgian beers.
Only one tiny drawback - the wifi service is only in public areas and even there it was not so good, sometimes connection got lost, but in Bruge there are much better things to do than using hotel wifi anyway.

Wow! This place is where you want to stay! The interior and exterior are absolutely immaculate and the staff are very welcoming and friendly, the design of the exterior will give you a cricked neck, but well worth looking around, even a small room that I stayed in left me beaming from cheek to cheek. I would go again tomorrow and definitely plan to visit again one day, if there is a better hotel in all of Bruges I would LOVE to know where!

See you again someday, Casselbergh!

The Casselbergh is a very nice hotel, definitely worth trying. The location is amazing, very central in Bruges yet quiet, and nearly everything is within a 5-10 minute walking radius. We enjoyed our stay very much, would go back.

You could not be better positioned its ideal and just a short walk to the square. Hotel itself is good - rooms clean, staff friendly, service is slow but that doesn't adversely affect your stay rated at 4stars and I'd say 3.5 out of 5 for hotel and 6 out of 5 for location

We stayed at the Casselburgh in Feb 2014 as part of a Secret Escapes deal for 2 nights. Travelled in on the Eurostar from Kent. This hotel is lovely. Only rated a 4 star but I felt it could have made 5 quite easily. The staff are exceptional - helpful, attentive, polite - they helped us with restaurant reservations (one before we arrived over email, even then incredibly helpful) and also bike hire and taxi bookings during our stay. I genuinely can't fault the hotel - the rooms were very, very spacious and very well appointed - lots of little touches that perhaps one would take for granted! Full walk in shower, large bath with another shower, tea and coffee making facilities, L'Octaine bathing goodies, plenty of hanging space, 2 large chairs (as well as desk/chair) for taking a drink in the evening. We had a champagne breakfast on both days with an excellent selection at breakfast; cooked goods or fresh fruits and pastries etc. We didn't use the evening bar as we were out and about alot but taking a peak, there were lots of lovely seating areas, large chairs and places to relax and enjoy a pre dinner drink. This hotel is a lovely/luxury base for a trip to Bruges - we would use this one again.

Room Tip: Request a room in the old part of the building for a large spacious room, high ceilings and a grand...
