From the moment that you walk through the front doors of this hotel and leave the bustle of Bruges behind you find yourself surrounded by a feeling of historical elegance, coupled with modern efficiency. We arrived by car, and the very good garaging facility underneath the hotel, accessed by car lift, immediately gave a feeling of security. The ability to unload luggage in a dry environment, (it was raining heavily when we first arrived), and also to make subsequent trips back to the car as and when needed is a luxury in Bruges and one that cannot be over-rated. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are of a good size, with plenty of character and well equipped. The buffet breakfast was exceptionally good.
The hotel has retained many of the architectural features of the original buildings, and this could cause problems for anyone with mobility issues. There are lifts in the hotel, but many of the rooms require further flights of stairs to be negotiated. With advanced notice I'm sure a room could be requested that is easily accessible, but this did not appear in the hotel information that we accessed before making our booking. We made this booking on line in advance, and this made our stay good value, if we'd paid the full price this would not have been the case, as, like most things in Bruges, the normal price was very expensive.
The location of this hotel must make it one of the best in this beautiful old city, virtually in the centre but slightly off the popular routes for both pedestrians and traffic.
