“Outstanding location, fine hotel, superb breakfast”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

We are going to be spoiled on all other hotels after this. Considering what a good bargain this was as part of our tour package, we were delighted and surprised to find such a luxurious hotel. It is located just steps from the "Burg" square and about a block and a half from the "Markt" square. (That walk to the Markt is like running a gauntlet, though: be prepared to be tempted by Belgian waffles, Belgian lace, and Belgian chocolates.)

Our room was very large for a major European city and had all the amenities. I would say that the hotel catered to an older clientele and most of the people we saw were 50 or above. But that made for a very quiet room even though when we were there, the nearby Markt square was hopping with one musical group after another in celebration of Belgian Independence Day (July 21). It was busy outside, but serene within.

Also, the included breakfast buffet was excellent and featured things that are likely to appeal to several nationalities: baked beans and tomatoes for the Brits, scrambled eggs and bacon for the Americans, pastries of all kinds for the French, and chocolate shavings for Dutch visitors to put on their toast.

I would definitely stay here again if I'm ever in Brugges.

Room Tip: Be sure to mention at the desk if you have any mobility problems. Some of the rooms don't have e...

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this hotel for 3 nights, right next to the Burg square and within earshot of the famous carillon of the Belfort. Room was in the modern part of the hotel, air conditioned and reasonably spacious. Nice modern bathroom. Little road noise so we were able to sleep with the window open.
The bar is in a fabulous suite of rooms in the old part of the hotel, but nobody seemed to use it. Cocktails and beer at the same price as elsewhere in the city and the service was great.
Nobody used the sauna or steam room either when we were there and both were gorgeous, in the converted vaults and apparently brand new.
First reception staff was a little frosty, but everyone else was helpful and efficient. Breakfast very generous and served until 10.30. All in all a good stay.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the canal are actually one row back, not directly next to the water.

We stayed in the Grand Hotel Casselbergh for three nights to celebrate our Silver Wedding last week and can honestly say this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in and excellent value for money. It is perfectly situated for exploring Brugge, being only a minute's walk from the Burg and the canal side. Our room was in the old part of the hotel (we chose this as we thought the old rooms had more character, which they did) The room was very spacious with a large bathroom. Breakfast was very good with a great choice. The only slight minus was that this hotel doesn't have it's own restaurant. The bar area is very plush with a nice relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely stay here again.

All you need, location, comfort. Thanks to Fleur and the others at reception for taxi and train times, and barman, portugese but didn't get his name, for late drinks and chat. Large breakfast, and fine decor throughout.

The hotel is perfectly situated in Bruges. Comfortable rooms, great bedding, quiet hotel and an amazing buffet breakfast (don't miss it!!) Add those all up and you'd think the hotel would be expensive but it's quite a good value. This is one of my favorite hotels in Europe - thank you for a wonderful stay. I'll be back! :)

Room Tip: Rooms on the canal are super quiet.

The Grand Hotel Casselbergh is located in the heart of Bruges (Brugge), adjacent to the square with the chapel of the Holy Blood, and a 1 minute walk to market square with the famous belfry. The hotel is also canal adjacent, but not on the canal. We paid extra for a canal view room, and we can view the canal, albeit over the restaurant that is on the canal. The cleaning staff is very friendly, and the front desk staff is not unfriendly; they just don't seem to go out of their way to be friendly. They also don't have a bell staff, so you will have to go up and down a small flight of stairs with your own luggage.

Our room is nice, clean and well kept. It has a mini-bar, coffee and tea with an electric kettle, and a safe. The jax (WC) has a tub and a shower, hair dryer, etc. Very clean and comfortable. There is a power receptacle on the hairdryer that will accept European and American appliances. Just be aware it will probably only handle a small appliance.

Breakfast comes with the room (for a higher rate, of course) and is a nice buffet with meats, cheeses, eggs, cereal, etc. It's worth the cost, in my opinion.

All in all, the hotel is a god place to stay while in Bruges. I would not rate it as a 4 star, though. In my opinion, it's more like 3.5 stars.

Room Tip: If you want a canal view, I recommend you request xx05,06 or 07 on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floors for t...
