“An absolute gem of a hotel . . .”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2010

Originally we were due to stay in one of the sister hotels in this group, but after momentary trepedation about what we would end up in, this hotel was an absolute delight. I believe it's rated as 4 star, but I think it's better than that. So to specifics:

Lobby: Grand, resplendant
Rooms: Compact, but not too bijou (will only make sense to Fry and Laurie fans)
Breakfast: A real fill your boots extravaganza. Very good quality, plenty of it, and the service is absolutely superb.
Bar: Good selection of post tourism tipples, and reasonably priced.
Location: You just couldn't beat it. 5 mins walk to the Belfry; Basilica of the Holy Blood.

Top tip for anyone wanting to take a canal trip. Take a left out of the hotel to the first square, then take another left, and walk under the arch to the left of the town hall. About 50 yards more and you're at the canal. The tour group that operates from this point was superb. Our guide was fluent in German, Flemish, English, Spanish, and he had a real dry sense of humour, which was really cool.

Bruges is beautiful, and this hotel made it even more so.

Stayed 4 nights to see Bruges. Location is excellent, just off the Burg. General condition of the hotel is very good, clean, smart.

The room was a tad small, but big enough for a chandelier. Bed was brilliant - superbly comfortable. The bath and shower were very good, room was quiet except for some strange noises in the night that sounded like barrels being rolled around - maybe from outside, as it was better with the windows closed. The aircon worked well and was very quiet.

Service was OK, but a little slow at times. We came back to our room at 3PM and it had not been serviced. Breakfast itself was very good (no tomatoes or mushrooms tho), but again the service was slow at times.

So this hotel gets all the basics right. Not perfect but a very good hotel - recommended.

My husband and I have travelled quite extensively during our years together so we have stayed in quite a few hotels! But I can honestly say that the casselbergh hotel has to be the best, I won't say anymore as the other reviews have done it for me, except to add just one thing, the hotel sockets are not the same as the usual european ones and after asking at reception was told I would have to give them my passport and I woudn't get it back until I returned the adaptor

Excellent location in centre of town . Modern touch to a classic hotel.Lovely room, beds that you snuggled into! L'Occataine toiletriesin nice bathroom. Front service good. Nice choice at breakfast. Only gripe , not worth booking canal view as obstructed by cafe in front of canal, but absolutey worth every penny.

Just opened this year so hope they keep up the standard.

We hadn't booked into the Casselbergh. We had booked into its sister hotel, the Aragon. The 4* Aragon was overbooked however. (A taxi driver later told us this was a common occurrence.) And so we were selected for a free upgrade to the 4*+ Casselbergh and a free taxi ride there too. Well, what a treat that turned out to be for our 2 night stay. Lovely big room, big comfy bed, lovely en suite with bath and separate shower and very nice complimentary L'Occitane soaps etc. We were in the new part of the hotel on the top floor under the eaves and this did prove a bit noisy when the rain poured down at night, which kept my husband awake but not me. The bar is good. The staff are helpful. The buffet breakfast is varied and plentiful. There is a large luggage room if you need to use this although it does not appear to be kept locked. Other than that we have no major complaints except there was no complimentary drinking water in the bedrooms and no turn-down service with chocolate (what! no chocolate in Brugges!) for your pillow.

This hotel is great. We had 2 x Family rooms in the 'old' section. Lofts for the kids, huge wood beams, giant ceilings, large beds, sitting area, lots of space. Rooms were elegant and spacious. Lobby is very nice. Bar area looks great, didn't get a chance to try it. Nice very large living room area off the bar. We loved the old/ mansion side of the hotel, didn't see the new building.
Breakfast included and was fantastic, hot and cold, great breads, cheese, salmon, etc. Stones throw from the Town Hall square, easy bus ride (even with bags) to/from the train station (just get the bus to the Market Square and it is a 5 min walk). Don't usually gush but we just loved this place....

Free internet too.

A few Bruges tips. We had 7, eating was expensive. We found (of all places) a Domino's pizza that also served pasta dishes to go, with a little market next door. Pasta for adults, pizza for kids, milk and beer and a great dinner in the room. There is a large market near the church with the Michelangelo (ask for it) with decent selection of items for lunches. We stayed 2 nights, needed 3 minimum.

we stayed in July travelling as two couples, on arrival the car park is wquite difficult to negotiate in a large vehicle ( we were in a landrover) the car park is accesed by a lift you drive into, most of the spaces are very small and confined by concrete pillars so no room for error on manouveures. that said the hotel was absolutely pristine and every bit as good as the pictures we stayed in a basic room in the main older part of the hotel, the join to the newer part is done very well though. our room was gorgeous, bed and pillows excellent quality, we stayed at prinsenhoff last time and whilst a wonderful hotel, really friendly the casselburgh luxury won for us hands down, the only reason it isnt a five star is it doesnt have a restaurant only breakfast available. breakfast was lazy affair, in a beautiful room, and was plentiful and good quality every choice of bread pastryfruit chees, cooked bacon sausage eggs etc, coffee really good strong but not bitter, all in all the hotel was fantastic. the only downside if there has to be one is that staff whilst very proffesional were not very friendly, but they dont have to be my friend to provide a great service. we have just booked to return to one of the executive rooms for christmas and i cant wait to go. you will have a great stay if you book this hotel. use travel supermarket for best prices available.
