“Great place to stay, we really felt at home.”
Reviewed 3 October 2010

We HD a lovely week at Aramis, and were made to feel really welcome by Hedwig and her husband. From being met at the train, to the wealth of information given by Hedwig on some of the more 'local' places to eat and shop.

The apartment was very comfortable, with the only thing missing being an oven, but this was easy to work around. The wealth of (English) DVDs kept us entertained on quiet nights in and we really got to know the city during our stay.

The apartment is in a great location, close to the centre of the city, train station etc (we are relying on public transport for our trip) but silent inside the building.

The only downside was the intermittent and infrequent vibrating of the building. This was not enough to put us off staying again though, as we would love to come back sometime.

It is successful location in the central part of the town – close to the city park and main attractions. Very hospitable owners.
It is apartment with 2 rooms – bedroom and room with full kitchen, dining table and sofa – and bathroom.
Rooms are spacious, very clean, comfortable. There is free internet.
There is not a parking area.
It is possible to stay 3 days, 7 days or month only.
Just one minus - It was noisy to sleep - it listens every car and horse on the road.

We booked this apartment fairly last min- and what a pleasant suprise! We stayed in flat 11 and although when you look on the map its on a main route into the main square the inside of the apartment is silent- due to the quadrouple glazing, amazing with cobbled streets outside. The apartment is very easy to find in the car and we parked at the underground carpark virtually opposite. Its also really near the train station, and the main square, and a supermarket for breakfast and as it turned out- all of our food needs! I highly recommend the bike shop just up the road towards the main square, there is a little bike sign poking out on the side of the building, you cant miss it. Bikes are by far the best way to get around the city- and beyond if you feel up to it. We got some bags (free if you ask) and took some food and drink on a bike ride to a near by village (recommended by Hedwig, one of the hosts) which was a lovely place called Damme. We also cycled to the coast- they have cycle paths everywhere outside of the medieval parts. The city can be fairly quiet once youve sampled all of the beers, and a night in served us well half way through the break- dont worry these apartments have English TV! and a very nice 4 seater dining area and sofa to view it from, there is also a very adequate kitchen area, cooked breakfasts with Saturday kitchen whilst on holiday, bliss- serves you well for a day in Brugge. For eating out I recommend Kardinaalshof- amazing food if like us you only want to splash out when it really counts, and the service there is faultless- make sure you have the wine set menu.
Over all it was a lovely break and the aparment was a home away from home, and so confortable that we probably saved a heck of money eating in on the essential meals rather than forking out in some frankly over priced cafes in the city. Enjoy!!
(We had to transfer the deposit via western union as we booked so last min, I was hesitant as this was a new one to this but it was fine- we called them before we transferred the money which they were also fine about). Also free wireless internet- bonus!

We agree with the comments in the "Laguna" review. We had a great holiday in Bruges & the apartment was excellent - near centre of Bruges, good shops nearby, including excellent Butcher shop and bakery shops. The Van Laere family gave us a very warm welcome to the city and to the apartment. It's obvious they applied their skills and knowledge of running a nearby hotel to the renovation, design and running of the apartments - very customer-friendly approach. The only slight disadvantage was the lack of sound-proofing between the 2 apartments on the top floor where we stayed - minor, compared to the pluses, however! It was easy to visit Ghent from here (the cathedral in Ghent is awesome in the true sense of the word - only downside was the regeneration of the central area of Ghent, with tram lines and all sorts giving the impression of a construction site, due to be completed in 2012/13 (a bit like Edinburgh's laying of new tram lines etc.!). Nevertheless, a boat trip down the river erased that slight inconvenience. We would also recommend a leisurely trip via the coast tram (a bargain at 10 Euros for 2 people & you can hop on and off to visit the various seaside resorts) - staying the whole tram journey takes about 2 hours. All round, this was a brilliant holiday & the weather happened to be very good. The people we met were friendly and helpful towards us. The Van Laere's were excellent hosts. We would recommend this apartment, Bruges and, indeed, Belgium, for a visit - we hope to return some time in the future. Liz & Alistair Tuach - Dumbarton, Scotland.

My husband and I stayed for a week during the Christmas holidays.

LOCATION: On the south end of the medieval core, the apartments are easy walking to everything you'd want to see as a tourist, yet just far enough away that we felt we were staying where the locals really live. It's an easy 10 minute walk from the train station or you can catch a quick cab ride. There are bakeries, a butcher, a grocery store and an excellent laundromat all within steps of the building - just about as convenient as it gets.

PROPERTY: Hedwig and her husband obviously take great care of the building and apartments. There's an elevator (which surprised me) making it easy to get to the upper floors. The front door is secured and the area very safe. Recycling, an iron and ironing board and umbrellas are all available off the ground floor.

ROOMS: We stayed in #21 on the top floor. It was a fantastic apartment with kitchen/living area, bedroom with plenty of storage and a nice large bathroom with double sinks. Everything was clean and well-maintained. The kitchen has all the items you'd need to cook for yourself (minus an oven) and we made breakfasts and full dinners with ease. The living room area was comfortable and the free, strong wi-fi allowed us to keep up with family and friends. The beds are comfortable, though they are a split twin rather than a full queen. The water pressure and temperature were excellent - and the shower stall is large compared to many European showers we've had at B&Bs.

PLUSES: Everything you could need. In fact, upon arrival, Hedwig sat with us in the apartment and went over a complete book of information that they put together for their guests. It contained all the information one would need while visiting - including doctor phone numbers - making us feel like we could just start enjoying our stay. They provide cell numbers for themselves and their son in case anything should come up.

MINUSES: Honestly, I can't think of anything negative about our stay. Perhaps the only minus was having to leave.

BOOKING: We booked directly with Hedwig after finding the apartments via HomeAway. We paid the listed 450 Euros for a full week's stay, no deposit was required. They request you pay in cash when you arrive, which we didn't find to be a problem.

TIPS: If you're interested in sampling Belgian beers, we can certainly recommend Bierbrasserie Cambrinus off the Market Square. Good food and over 400 beers to choose from.

All in all, not only can we recommend Aramis - we are certain to stay there again when we return to Bruges in the future.

We stayed at the Aramis with our 3 year old daughter. The location is perfect. If the weather is good and you don't have much luggage (or a roller) you can easily walk to/from the train station (maybe 10 minutes max ... it was that with me holding the 3 year old's hand), and also a short walk to the center of Brugge. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and well appointed. There is a bakery and laundrymat one block down and a small grocery one block up. It was warm and comfortable on some cold and rainy nights. We would definitely stay there again if we found ourselves in Bruges.
