“Bruges...Quaint, picturesque.”
Reviewed 23 December 2011 for a stay in December 2011

We stayed at B&B Brughia for a last minute weekend away...We had not intended on going to Bruges however trying to getaway for a last minute weekend was proving difficult due to the time of year...December and Christmas shoppers and having recently watch 'In Bruges' Colin Farrell looked an amazing place to visit.
B&B Brughia was one of the only available places left to stay for the weekend we chose and even then we were lucky to get a room. Upon arrival into Bruges we had found our way driving to the main railway carpark that had been advised to park as it was only 2.50Euros for 24hrs! From the carpark we contacted the host and they provided directions to the property, we eventually found it through the cobbled maze of streets...Bearing in mind it was dark when we arrived and not having been here before it took us a little longer than the suggested 10mins walk from the station. It had just started to rain and was a little chilly being December so we were glad to finally stumble across the property and was welcomed by the host.
Upon entering the property the Host mentioned that they were awaiting a visit from a plumber as they had NO heating...I was a little dissapointed as we had been travelling for a few hours and really wanted to relax, however we were shown the room and it was a lovely sized room (Number 3) I probably would have arranged the furniture slightly different however it was quaint with a huge open fireplace (feature) and bare floorboards. We found that the huge corner bath was a little wasted and would better suit a walk in shower. I am glad that we had packed a towel each and shampoo etc as although they had supplied one small towel each and sample sized body wash I felt that this let it down a little.
We immediately went straight out to find our way round and search for a restaurant and hoped that by the time we returned we would have a lovely cosy room...
Having walked the streets for what seemed like hours we found a little shop and purchased a bottle of wine and some nibbles and headed back to the property where the room was indeed lovely and warm!
The next morning we woke prepared for an early start and went down to Breakfast for 9am...If you are not fond of sharing your breakfast table with other strangers then this is not the place for you as all guests sit together on the same table and if you are not a morning person (Like I am not) and if you are not too fond of continental breakfast (as my partner is not) then you would be better off staying at a hotel or eat out at one of the many restaurants. I understand that europeans really make a meal out of breakfast time but if you are not used to having a huge gathering at breakfast or like us rarely eat breakfast then this can be quite an unpleasant experience. Do not tak this the wrong way as the breakfast was more than adequate it is just that I felt really awkward and very conscious especially when the host was trying to make polite conversation by asking each in turn where they ate the night before etc etc...
We spent a wonderful day walking the cobbled streets mesmerised by the Christmas markets and food gifts available, pavements littered with restaurants. Photo opportunities are a plenty. We returned to our room in the afternoon for a well earned rest before we were going to set off out again to find one of the many reasonably priced back street restaurants. We did find a restaurant that could accomodate us and the meal was 'ok', we returned to the room and had drinks etc there and settled in for the night. I had a disturbed sleep as it seemed that the neighbours backing onto our room were still in full swing of their get together as at 3am they were still laughing and singing...once awake could not then get back to sleep...We missed breakfast as we had slept in and decided to gather our things together to check out for 10.30am, The host offered us breakfast when we were checking out but we declined as we wanted to head back to Calais to do some last minute shopping. Although very quaint and picturesque we are glad we have been to Bruges and can tick it off the list but would probably not rush back.

Liked best: We liked the building of B&B Brughia and the room was ok.
Liked least: Breakfast table seating arrangemnets, I would be inclined to have smaller tables set out rather than expecting people to socialise with strangers at breakfast.

“A lovely choice in Bruges - hope to be back!”

We spent two nights at B&B Brughia and I am so glad to have found this place! Bieke and Arnout were lovely hosts and the room was great, too! We were placed in large room upstairs on the first floor and were very comfortable. Our room only had a tub (with a showerhead) so be sure to ask for a full shower stall if this is important to you.

Room was nicely appointed and very clean. Location was perfect between the two major squares in Bruges and an easy walk anywhere. Because it was pouring when we arrived at the train station we took a cab to the B&B (about 10 euros) but when we departed we found the bus system easy to navigate and a quick walk from the B&B.

Breakfast was fantastic -- very yummy and plenty to eat -- and a great way to start our day! Thanks for a wonderful visit to Bruges -- we hope to return again soon!

“Great, spacious and comfy attic room”

A lovely and well renovated house with a number of bedrooms to rent. Ours was the top floor with an attached attic turned bedroom. It was so cosy for my 2 young girls who have never been in an attic, let alone sleep comfortably in one. This family room is ideal for 4 to 6 people. Very clean and simply furnished. The backyard offers some greenery and a good size trampoline that my girls thoroughly enjoyed. Breakfast was simple yet filling. The hosts are very friendly and offer expert advice on sightseeing options. Quiet accommodation very suitable for families.

“Fantastic B&B with character and wonderful owners”

B&B Brughia was a great find - it's listed as a rental house but it's not so dont be put off by the listing. They have lots of rooms in an old but renovated house. 10minute walk to the station and 5minutes to the main square.

The owners are lovely - very helpful and informative, they also lay on a great breakfast!

I would really recommend B&B Brughia!
