A wonderful and well located hotel in central Bruges. Just one block back from the main square, this is perfect for a city break, giving easy walking access to the main sights of the city.
The staff were always friendly and helpful and the property is extremely well maintained and the rooms are superbly equipped (ours had a Nespresso machine, a Bose Wave Radio, and its own iPad).

I stayed for a night at this hotel in June, so this is a delayed review. Heritage is a wonderful boutique hotel in a quiet street just off Markt – and dare I say, the name of the street - Niklaas Desparsstraat – is longer than the street itself! So if finding the hotel is a slight issue, you can’t wander too far, just go up the quiet street once, and you won’t miss it.

The hotel is housed in an old building, which has been converted to a hotel. The entrance, into a small lobbyish area, is understated, and you already like it more for the welcoming bunch of daisies therein. Check-in should be easy – wasn’t for me, but everyone else I saw during the stay had an easy check in. My room wasn’t ready either, but the hotel kept my bag and I was happy to explore the picture postcard town at its doorstep. It helps that Bruges is small, and maps make it really easy to navigate, especially if start from the centre, where this hotel is.

The hotel, part of Relais & Chateaux, is small, and family run by Johan and Isabelle Creytens. It’s been renovated recently, explained Johan, and I fell in love with my room as soon as I saw it – exquisitely done up, with an array of products that are there just to make you feel nice. It was on the top floor, to be reached by a tiny elevator, or a steep staircase. The room was partitioned into two – a living area and the bedroom.

To match its name, every little detail added to a sense of history, of living as people perhaps once did. The Nilson bed was excellent, and I had a skylight right above the pillows – glass half full/ half empty? Great attention to detail also meant period looking furniture, a matching air con, a desk stocked with matching lamps, an iPad, an antique looking telephone, beautiful decanters and cut glass tumblers – Belgian of course, a Bose docking system.

The living room looked straight out of the 19th century. To add to the atmosphere, there were bound books, patterned soft carpets, wood paneling, comfy sofas for four, a little corner stand, glass chandeliers, fresh flowers in the room, a wardrobe, even an ironing board, beautiful vases, a well stocked mini bar, a coffee machine and to me, tv with lots of channels – but why would want them, lovely windows, all made for a charming stay indeed. Haven’t forgotten – the wash area was large, had marble flooring with a shower, jacuzzi bath, slippers, bathrobes, toiletries from Hermes – happy relaxing here. Apparently there were free pre-dinner drink every evening, but I unfortunately wasn’t in! But a well stocked fruit basket as I have never seen elsewhere made up for it considerably. You won't forget this room in a hurry.

The breakfast was in a lovely setting again, a grand room on the ground floor, complete with perfectly laid out tables and curtains. Note the framed paper roses in black and white, and the ceiling. The breakfast choices themselves may seem limited, but that’s in comparison to the usual excess of breakfast buffets. This one sufficed very well indeed. There’s a bar next to it, well stocked in wines, books and comfort, though not sure how many get to spend time here.

Went there in the glory of summer sun, and am told winter is spectacular as well. Must try. Perfect for couples and people who want to get away from crowds and mega hotels. Perfect blend of heritage and modernity.

Room Tip: Suite on top floor, definitely

We stayed for 2 nights in Nov 2013 and had a wonderful time. As others have said the location of the hotel is superb. Could not have been better located in fact.
We were upgraded to the suites at the top of the hotel. The room was large with a separate seating area away from the bedroom. The room was filled with loads of gadgets (iPad, Coffee machine etc). We didn't eat at the hotel at all (including breakfast) as there are so many wonderful cafes and restaurants to choose from in Bruges itself.
The bed was the most amazing bed we've ever slept it. Huge and snuggly. Staff were polite & friendly throughout.
Highly recommend this hotel if you find yourself in Bruges.

We popped across the Channel for a night in beautiful Bruges and couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Heritage is a gorgeous hotel in a brilliant location. The service was impeccable throughout, from the warm welcome to being sent on our way home with bottles of water for the drive. In between times we enjoyed complementary sherry and port in the evening and courtesy, attentiveness and smiles at all times. We didn't eat at the hotel so cannot comment but in every other respect this was a superb experience.

Check in was quick and very pleasant. The staff throughout we're very polite, friendly and attentive. The room was a little on the small side, but full with mod cons, coffee machine, iPad Bose stereo and flat screen tv, overall , this hotel is great value for money, it's close enough to the main centre of Bruges but at the same time just the right distance to be a quiet location. Our only gripe is that we thought breakfast was included, and they did not specify at check in. My tip is that if you can afford €20 per person for a Buffett breakfast, then fill your boots. I would recommend finding a cafe, with plenty to chose from within 5 minutes walk.
