“Past its best”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2011

Just came back from a lovely weekend in Bruges but feel compelled to comment on the disappointing experience at this hotel. There are many charming features in the place and it SHOULD have been wonderful but there were too many things that were below standard that it just simply didn't deserve the 'luxury' status it gives itself (not to mention the prices). Our room didn't look anything like the plush rooms on the website, more like something from an old peoples' home, the towels and robes were worn, stains on the bedspread and blankets (duvet anyone?) and we were disturbed by the noise from breakfast room next door. The breakfast (not included) was average and room service prices very high - at least I think ten euros for a plate of chips is a lot. There was just a general sense that the place needs an overhaul. Hotels in this genre these days have coffee facilities, bose sound docs etc (no matter how traditional or quaint) and I think this place needs to step up a gear - its the little things that make a place special and I felt they were cutting corners. It may be that our room was last on the list to be updated in which case I would advise checking before making a booking.

I am very sorry you were a bit disappointed about the room you stayed in. Indeed, it is a more classical, traditional room with very nice English fabrics.
It’ a pity you did not inform the reception about your preference for another room with another pattern.
However , this room is liked very much because it is a large spacy room with three windows and beautiful mahogany furniture and bath with Jacuzzi.
We have no coffee facilities in the rooms ( where usually only Nescafé in bags, milk in bags, is available).
You can order coffee ( or other drinks) at any moment day and night… such as expresso, cappuccino , caffélatte, etc..They are served with home-made sweets as mini-cakes etc..
I don’t understand your remark about the chips (pommes frites) because you did not have any.
The reason we don’t have iPhone doc stations in our rooms is, because we would always have to buy new ones if Apple changes the chassis in next versions. Moreover , not every iPhone doc station is compatible with each iPhone.
On the other hand each room disposes of a CD-player (stereo).

We had the pleasure of staying in the Ralph Lauren Junior Suit New Bond for 2 nights. Everything was really great from the moment we arrived. We got a garrage for the car and the receptionist helped us with the luggage to the room. The room was fantastic and we can highly recommed it. Breakfast was also superb. Serviceminded waiters took the orders and made the meal very pleasant. The library next to the reception is a good place to have a drink in the evening. The hotel is also friendly for kids.
All in all this was our best stay ever in a hotel.

We have just returned from a wonderful break in the Pand Hotel in the heart of historic Bruges. Nestling close to the famous Gronegge Museum and within a 5 minute walk of the Market Square and the Borg Square. We couldn't fault the location nor could we fault the ambience of this beautiful intimate hotel. The breakfast was one of the best we have had consisting of champagne, pastries, genuinely 'fresh' fruit, freshly squeezed juices etc. etc., but the most charming aspect of the breakfasts were that they were cooked to order (very swiftly) on an Aga which was located at the back of the dining area. On one of our mornings with the sun splitting the heavens, we ate outside in the small courtyard, on both other mornings we ate in the bright and airy conservatory. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Without asking, after checking out, they offered to let us keep our car for another few hours, in their hotel car park, despite the pressure on spaces. We were extremely grateful. If you are looking for a special break, in the heart of historic Bruges, and wish to stay in a gorgeous hotel with friendly and helpful staff, then look no further than the Pand Hotel.

I give out very few "excellent" ratings when writing reviews, and the Pand Hotel definitely delivers at this level. Our stay here was a bit of a splurge for us in celebration of our 35th wedding anniversary, but we were very pleased. We had a spacious and beautifully decorated room, one of their Ralph Lauren Junior Suites. The bathroom had a double sink and a separate bath and shower. Everything was clean, clean, clean. Housekeeping was very accommodating and located a cotton matelisse cover for the bed when the luscious down comforter was too hot for us in the warm June weather. The room was a lovely oasis for us to return to after exploring the marvelous city of Brugge.

Part of what can make a hotel experience special is the interactions one has with the staff. Everyone at the front desk was helpful and professional. We especially appreciated the kindnesses of Rebecca, who patiently answered our many questions. She's delightful.

We would have liked to have breakfast at the hotel, but we aren't huge breakfast eaters, and couldn't justify paying the equivalent of about $60 for that meal. There aren't many nearby options for breakfast, although another hotel close by, the Duc De Bourgogne, offers a 12 Euro buffet breakfast which we tried one morning. Luckily the Pand was willing to serve us a continental breakfast of coffee and a nice selection of pastries and croissants for 8 Euros, still a bit pricey but do-able. The gentleman who brought the breakfast to us in the library was terrific and personable - I think his name was Ignatius?

It was nice to have free wi-fi in our room.

Should we be lucky enough to return to Brugge, I wouldn't hesitate to return to the Pand. We loved it!

Room Tip: Get a Ralph Lauren Junior Suite

The Pand Hotel is on a quiet side street just steps from the canal and a 5 minute leisurely walk to the main square. The Pand is a wonderful, small hotel. Beautiful sitting areas, relatively large, nicely decorated rooms. Quiet. Staff helpful and friendly. The breakfast nook is lovely and the $19 Euro breakfast includes champagne, juices, coffee, tea, cereal, yogurt, fruit, croissants, cheeses, and eggs made to order. I was here with a friend and will definitely be back with my husband. Wish I could have stayed longer.

It is really a small luxury hotel, extremely cozy, everything you would wish for a Brugge hotel. The location is perfect. An interesting two hour tour was included, it was a surprise for us. They gave us a good list of restaurant suggestions, and the staff was very friendly.

At $200 per night a fine value considering the elegance
and service. Location perfect. Breakfast pricy.
