“Very romantic and the champagne breakfast seals the deal”
Reviewed 31 March 2013

Very cute little hotel in the heart of Bruges. The rooms are well furnished with very nice things. The champagne breakfast is very pleasant and worth the little bit extra. A very nice place for a romantic weekend.

We stayed in the Pand hotel for my 30th birthday weekend in March 2013. We were on a budget but absolutely loved the look of the hotel so we decided we would go for one of the ‘Small Charming Rooms’ just so that we could experience the hotel. I warned my husband that I'd booked one of the smallest rooms but in one of the most beautiful hotels so we were ready and expecting a tiny room.

When we arrived we were taken to room 304 and both my husband and were pleasantly surprised by how big it was. The bed was huge, there was lots of space to move around, there was a lovely bathroom and a really sweet view over the roof tops. The style of the room was definitely charming and we were really pleased with the hotel and our beautiful room. I noticed that someone else has given an awful review about room 304 but in my opinion The Pand are very honest on their website about the room sizes and have even named the room a ‘Small Charming Room’ so you can’t expect a junior suite when you book a room labelled ‘small’.

One of the best things about this hotel was breakfast, it was an additional 17 Euros each but it was most definitely worth it. Breakfast at the Pand is not just about eating, it is a whole experience in itself. The breakfast room is stunning with white table cloths, freshly cut roses on the table, silverware and all set in a beautiful family style kitchen complete with AGA. Breakfast comes with as much coffee, tea, juice, champagne as you want, fresh pastries, baguettes, bread, cereal, fruit all served by a lovely, friendly waiter and then after thinking that is it you are offered freshly cooked eggs any way that you like. The eggs were amazing and a beautiful bright colour, this truly was a perfect way to start the day and made turning 30 that little bit more bearable.

If I was forced to say something negative about the hotel the only thing I could think of is that when we went to the bar for a nightcap one evening at about 11pm, the bar was unmanned and after sitting around for 15 or so minutes we decided to head back to the room. I’m sure if we had gone to reception this would have been rectified so no big issue but it would have been nice to have a night cap that evening.

Over all we were pleased with The Pand, the location was amazing, the staff were so friendly and the hotel itself is truly stunning. We would definitely return.

As many other reviewers have said, The Pand is a charming hotel right in the centre of Bruges (taxi from station €7.50). It's a typical 'boutique' sort of place which generally means small, friendly with great attention to detail and in this respect it doesn't disappoint.

Easy, friendly check-in - attentive, young staff and very welcoming - our room (104) was 'tastefully' decorated in Burberry check which was perhaps a little Chavvy and reminiscent of Chatham High Street maybe a couple of years back. The bathroom is best described as compact and bijou and a bit of a tight squeeze and don't attempt to use the toilet while your partner is having a shower as you'll get soaked, nice having the jacuzzi bath mind but the shower is poorly designed coming out of the side wall rather than the end wall but you get used to it.

Very nice breakfast (on 'special' offer of 17 euros) which is probably about right as Bruges is an expensive city, very nice waiter who's attentive, polite and not obtrusive - just as they should be, sorry but didn't catch his name.

Only faults - well, not many - the rooms/bathrooms are small, but perhaps as you would expect for a 'boutique' hotel and the sauna can be used but at a price - I swear the concierge said 40 euros but I may have been wrong, if that's correct, that's extortionate but apologies if it's incorrect.

Anyway I would highly recommend The Pand, the lounge and bar areas are really classy and cosy - nice open fire and full of interesting bits and pieces, staff are great and the location really can't be beaten, I don't think you'll be disappointed if you stay here.

Room Tip: There is a room right next to the kitchen - can't imagine it would be much fun in that one.

We have been twice to Bruges and both times for the Christmas markets because it's just a magical medievel city.
When we arrived at the 'Pand' - situated just off the central square and down a quiet tree lined road - we where shown a little room almost in the attic, decorated in a deep pink colour with pink flowery curtains and bedding and a pink bathroom. Sorry not for me, so I asked if there was another room available. We were shown into the Ralph Lauren JR Suite - Cassie Blue number 106 with it's typical Lauren blue and white theme; a very comfy four poster bed and good size bathroom.
The breakfast in the morning was superb, situated in a cosy white pannelled room with a big Aga at one end. The bar / lounge was just as cosy in the evenings.
I can't wait to visit again .... probably next time try a different season.
Bruges is by far my most favourite small city.

Room Tip: Ralph Lauren JR Suite - Cassie Blue number 106 over looks the tree lined avenue.

Let me know first acknowledge how warm, professional and attentive the staff are in this beautiful boutique hotel. This is very much a boutique hotel, cosy full of character and charm. Rooms are small but in my opinion it adds to the charm.

The breakfast is not included in the rate but would recommend dining one morning at least (although decent restaurants in Bruges are all similar priced)€17-€22 Eggs are cooked on AGA in front you, freshly squeezed orange juice and even a glass of champagne!
The lobby was my favourite,we had the place to ourselves whilst having drinks in front of the fire. Much welcomed after being out in the freezing cold all day!

In summary,a prefect location, full of charm and character.

Discreetly tucked away, yet central, this is a handsomely appointed little hotel. We enjoyed a junior Ralph Lauren suite, gorgeous textiles and furnishings. nice hut tub, charming view. Though there are lovely things to eat all around this charming little town, breakfast in the hotel is really worthwhile. The dining room is sweet, the variety plentiful, and they prepare your food right in front of you on the big Aga cooker. Nice.

Pretty, charming, cosy, luxurious. The perfect hotel to stay at when in Bruges. Tucked on a lovely little street just a short walk away from all the hustle and bustle of the town. A lovely retreat from the madness that decends on Bruges in December!

We booked a Ralph Lauren junior suite, lovely sized room, 4 poster bed, luxurious decor. Only con was the small toilet but liked the fact that it was separate from the bathroom.
Its set in amongst buildings/ nearby streets so the views are mostly of bricked rooftops which are strangely appealing and remind you of a victorian christmas film set.

Gorgeous bar, small and intimate and a place that people only came to if they stayed at the hotel. Taking your drinks into the lounge is a danger- only for the fact that you'd never want to leave the place! Two rooms with large cosy sofas, a roaring fire, books, an old piano... the epitome of Christmas and cosiness!

Staff are wonderful and helpful, breakfast is a must. We had room service one day which was stunning and delicious, even came with a glass of champagne! The next day we went downstairs to the dining room, what a charming and personal experience. They cook that food on an ara set up in the room, with the cook specifically taking your order and cooking your food there and then.

Travel tips: if going in december, book restaurants in advance, do some research on the best places to eat and drink as they get busy full of tourists! Don't go up the tower on the weekend as its so busy! Also, Christmas market was okay, not the best so just enjoy the town and its charm... for me, the hotel made the trip a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: Ralph Lauren junior suite
