“A few small things.”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

This hotel is in a great location, you can walk out of the front door and be in the middle of things within a minute or two. A few things could be improved however, on check in our booking through Small Hotels of the World included a welcome drink. This never materialized and when I mentioned it later I would told I should have told them at the time. I feel as a luxury hotel it is their job to know what my rate includes. We only wanted the included continental breakfast as I have a gluten intolerance and most hotels only think a piece of gluten free toast covers this so I usually buy other things that are freely available in the shops. No idea why most hotels can't do this but there you go. We had to eat in a different area to the main dining room because we only had the continental breakfast which felt a bit like we weren't to be trusted. The coffee was dreadful, we got better at the train station, it is time these hotels had a real expresso machine instead of the automated ones. Our junior suite was nicely furnished though certainly not much bigger than a lot of standard rooms in other hotels in Europe. The rooftop view was lovely and the bed very comfortable though we did have some trouble making them understand that we liked a top sheet as well as a duvet as we sometimes find the duvet too hot. Overall we had a nice experience and would possibly stay here again, they just need to pay more attention to detail if they want to be classed as a luxury hotel.

Room Tip: get the biggest there is as the rooms are typical of Europe.

Not only is the Pand Hotel centrally located a stone's throw from the center of the city, it is an absolute jewel of a hotel. Rooms are decadently gorgeous, with windows you can throw open to the fresh air. Breakfast is excellent in a lovely setting, french doors open to the morning air and light. The Front Desk team (with exception of a testy man who did not want us drinking our (very expensive) bottle of French wine in the beautiful common room downstairs) was helpful, experienced, and very polished. Overall, an excellent experience, one I would repeat whenever I get the chance to revisit Bruges - an astoundingly perfect medieval city.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with french doors to an outside patio if available.

We loved everything about this hotel - its quiet location seconds from the bustle of central Bruges, the attentiveness of the staff, the decor, the comfortable bed, the wonderful breakfasts etc. We had a junior suite -roomy and very comfortable but if you are over 5'8" tall, watch out for the antlers!

Room Tip: Having read other reviews we suggest a junior suite is worth the extra.

We stayed two nights last Sunday and Monday and had booked a "Large Deluxe Room". We had a warm and friendly welcome but the first room we were shown to was not very pleasant at all. It was entered from a door in the restaurant and immediately up some steep stairs to a room that looked tired and garishly decorated. The "en-suite" bathroom was back down the narrow steep staircase ! We didn't see it as I said the arrangement was unacceptable. In fairness, the young man who had checked us in and shown us to the room did not try to persuade us differently and went to check if he had an alternative. He upgraded us to a Junior Suite with no extra charge and that was very comfortable and very tastefully decorated. Although the published room rate was an eye-watering 440 Euros it was being offered on their web-site at 207 Euros which is what we had paid anyway. Breakfast was 17 Euros per person extra.
The unacceptable room was no. 001 and really should not be offered for sale and certainly not described as Deluxe.
Otherwise this was a charming hotel. The room was large and comfortable with a comfortable old leather sofa, a small balcony and very quiet as it overlooked their rear patio. The bed was also large and comfortable. The bathroom was large, modern and clean with a separate shower, bath and twin basins. There was a separate toilet. Air conditioning that worked but also windows that opened for fresh air.
Breakfast was good but a little "twee". A pleasant light room with painted white "distressed" furniture and chintzy curtains. A very small buffet with just a little fruit and cereal but bread, croissants, cheese and ham were presented to you by a charming, friendly and helpful waitress. One could have as much as one wanted but it would somehow have been easier if one could have chosen the type of cheese, ham and bread for oneself. Freshly cooked eggs were offered together with bacon etc. I asked if they had marmalade and although I was told regrettably not the young lady did find some and brought it to the table and remembered the second day. So full marks for that. The lounge and small bar were comfortable and nicely decorated in an "English Country House" style. There is no restaurant for lunch or dinner but dozens within a short walking distance and we ate very well in Bruges at two different places. They had a lock-up garage available which I had booked in advance.
There are a number of small "Boutique Hotels" in Bruges. Would I stay here again ? Possibly but I'd be wary of the room and the price charged. I might be tempted to try somewhere else but we did have a pleasant stay and all the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel is under new ownership since May this year and perhaps they haven't really figured out what they are trying to be yet.

Room Tip: Refuse Room 001

What a great find... the location is an easy 5 minute walk from the Grote Markt, and the hotel itself is friendly, cozy and quiet. It's a perfect balance of luxury and warmth, and it's very reasonably priced for how nice the rooms are. The desk staff was friendly and helpful.

The only slight negative is that the WiFi was sometimes unreliable. Otherwise, it's a perfect place to stay in beautiful Bruges!

The Pand Hotel is very conveniently located near the centre of the city within easy walking distance to all of the major attractions. The hotel is located in a quiet location and is quite a delightful hotel. The reception staff are very helpful and friendly and offered many great suggestions for places to eat as the hotel does not have a restaurant. Our room was located on the second floor which is accessed by an elevator. The room we were offered is very small, and the bathroom is one of the smallest that we have ever seen in any hotel. Not the best for the larger guests! Breakfast was fantastic and cooked before your eyes.

All in all a delightful hotel with small rooms.

We stayed in the Pand Hotel for our wedding anniversary and our first trip to Bruges. The location of the hotel could not be better, the staff are utterly helpful and charming and the design of the hotel is cosy, a little bit quirky and totally inviting. We had to queue for a few minutes to check in, but this wasn't a huge issue for us as we were waiting only 5 minutes or so. Once we got to the top of the queue, the gentleman at the front desk who checked us in could not have been more helpful and polite (despite a rude American trying to cut in on our conversation REPEATEDLY). We had booked a Ralh Lauren suite and our room was really pretty, with an amazing bathroom and really nice toiletries (Hermes). As it was our anniversary, the hotel offered us a glass of champagne, which was a really sweet touch. The staff were really helpful when it came to restaurant recommendations and the turn down service complete with a little chocolate and a weather forecast for the following day is an adorable touch. We fell in love with the city and with the hotel and we will certainly be back for the Christmas markets. If you are planning a trip to Bruges, you will find it hard to do better than this hotel.
