“Excellent value”
Reviewed 17 October 2009

Good location a couple of blocks away from the main streets. Nice and quiet garden and terrace. Reception, breakfast room and bar are all very nice and the conference room on the ground floor was just perfect; bright and comfortable with views both to the garden and terrace. My room in the main building was spacious and quite basic, with a good bed and a large bathroom. Shower in the tub was fine. A stained carpet was not so nice and there were problems with connecting to the wireless internet both for me and my colleagues in other rooms. Very good buffet breakfast, nice and helpful staff. Room was EUR 84 and breakfast EUR 16 which I found to be excellent value.

This hotel is a little gem, very modern and stylish , comfortable and clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. The courtyard and garden are an added bonus in the city and it was enjoyable to sit and relax in the sunshine, enjoying a cup of the free coffee and tea provided every day. Breakfast offered a wide selection of breads, cold meats and cheeses, with a hot section - and a chocolate fountain! My one reservation would be that the baths are huge and very deep, and as the shower in my room and my friend's was over the bath, people with arthritis may have difficulty in getting in and out. I don't know if the hotel has rooms with walk in showers.

Restaurant meals are quite expensive, particularly with the £ versus Euro exchange rate at present, but many restaurants offer a three course fixed price meal from about 16-29 euros, and we found these excellent. De Postiljon, just round the corner from the Montanus in Katelijnestraat, and Arnie's, in Wollestrat ( near the Markt) were both excellent.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in early September 2009, I booked it after reading the favourable reviews. It is a very nice hotel, exceptionally clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. We had a room in the main building (Rm 202) which was very spacious and had a good view out into the garden. The garden is a bonus in Bruge and a nice place to sit for some peace and quiet after a long day walking around.

The breakfast was exceptional, there is a large continental choice and also a hot selection of scrambled egg, continental style thin cut streaky bacon, and small Belgium sausages, it was really tasty and you will not go away hungry !!

It is close enough to walk into the town centre (about 10 mins), they also have their own secure car park (15 euros a day), which is a bit more expensive than the public ones.

On a beer shopping note, we found the "Wall of Beer" shop in a tourist area, where they have a massive selection of Belgium beers, however we found a local supermarket in one of the backstreets, where the prices were half of what the Wall of Beer shop was charging, real good value.

I booked it through ASDA travel services, which was a real bargain £80 per night (off the street price was 155 Euros). All in all excellent value for a lovely Hotel in the heart of Bruge.

Bruges is a very pretty small city and the Montanus is an attractive modern hotel in an old building and well placed to enjoy a peaceful stay but within easy walking distance of the bustle in the main square but with restaurants and bars nearby. The garden is a delight with a patio and plenty of seating to enjoy a drink on a warm day. The breakfast buffet was fresh and the choice good. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Some rooms are located in the garden up some steep steps. Our room was large, light and modern and being in the garden very quiet at night. I would stay here again.

Really great hotel, close to all the sights, very quiet street, lovely rooms with everything you need for a comfortable stay! The breakfast was really great with lots of choice.
The staff made sure we had everything we needed and were on hand to give us advice and info on the local area.
Bruges is a very pretty town with lots to see and do, well worth a visit and we would reccomend this hotel to all (Young or Old) one of the best we have stayed in!

This was a great hotel in a central location just 5 minutes walk to most of the centre of Brugges. The rooms were of a high quality and very clean, some mosquitos was the only complaint. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent with a full european selection making it a very good few days. I would definitely stay again.
