“good hotel with good parking facilities”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

We stayed here one night. The hotel is very descent. No nonsense! Friendly staff, good rooms (superior room we had) but the only thing is that there is a foul odour coming from the bassin. It is a sewege smell coming from the bassin which we only used when we brushed our teeth. No problems were there with the shower cabins. The breakfast is good but expensive, 20 euro each. There are some good places on the Katelijnestraat to have breakfast where it is much cheaper.

And coming from the Amsterdam where parking rates are 5 euros an hour, we were very pleased that the nearby parkinggarage, which is 2 steps from the hotel, only charged 8,70 euro for 24 hours.

Would stay here again, and bring our little daughter next time. This hotel is very childfriendly. They even have a child buffet for breakfast.

This hotel is very nice, located in a set back courtyard. The reception desk was very nice, and we were surprised to be able to check in right away since we were early. The rooms were nice. Basic bed, tv, bathroom. It was interesting having a bathroom that had speakers in it to listen to the TV. The hotel restaurant was pricey and we opted for the grocery across the street for breakfast. Rolls, pepper salami, butter, fresh orange juices, and milk cost around $12 USD for 3 people. Very reasonable. The location is excellent. It was a quick and easy walk to the sites within Brugge, and to the train station. The view from our room was the courtyard, which was nice. This hotel was a great choice for our stay, we really enjoyed it.
Brugge is beautiful!

Easy walk to the train station and downtown. Good rooms. Expensive food. There is a grocery store across the street to buy food.

Don't expect the same kind of service typical for Novotel hotels at this hotel. Their front office staff is incredibly rude. No warm smile to greet you. In fact the woman who checked us looked as if she was bitter and cold. It was hands down the worst, most uncivilized customer service I have ever experienced.

After an unpleasant check-in experience, with an uninviting front desk agent, we checked into our room and even though we booked a room with one double bed and two sofa beds so that we would have the most space, we only got one double bed and one sofa bed. When we called and asked why we didnt get the room we requested, they said, "you dont NEED that room for a party of two," as we are saving those rooms for families...Can you imagine if in the US if a hotel ever gave you that kind of excuse for not getting you the room you requested? You dont NEED a room that big? And to top it all off, we were 3 travelling together but only 2 that were only using the room since we knew people in town.

Then they proceeded to tell us at the last moment, at CHECK-OUT that they were charging us 15 euros per night because they were charging us for three. We received no notification for this extra charge that was going to be added to our bill by anyone in management until check out.

So not only did they not give us the room we requested to accomodate "a family," they accused us of being a family of 3 without giving us the room that we had requested to accomodate this! Furthermore, our receipt that was emailed when we made the reservation said the room was for UP TO 4 people and did not mention a difference in price if there was 3 or 4.

Instead of their hotel staff honestly informing us that they were charging us for a 3rd person, they proceeded to do so clandestinely without informing us. And the worst and most unethical part is, they waited until we checked out to inform us so that they wouldn't have to give us a bigger room that we reserved. Hands down unethical and you wouldn't see that kind of business practice ever in the US. In the very least you should take off 15 euros a night for not givinig us the room we requested, and not the complete opposite, by charging us that AND not giving us the room we requested. Completely outrageous. And to top it all off, throughout our entire stay they brought towels/amenities for a party of 2, but charged us an extra fee for being a party of three. Haha. That was the most outrageous part.

If you are going to accuse a party of 2 of being a party of 3 you need to inform them that you are adding on this charge to their hotel bill, so that they can choose another hotel if needed. You cannot unethically sneak this charge on behind their back and tell them at check out. Only in Europe, and only at a hotel such as this with such horrible and uncivilized customer service would you get service like this!

And their claustrophobic rooms are nothing to write home about.

The fact that we are travel agents and refer our clients here and have family members who are elite reviewers for several websites did not seem to bother them and they were completely apathetic at achieving high quality customer service. In fact, they have not even responded to my complaint.

They are rude, unaccomodating, with mediocre accomodations. So why stay there? Take your money and business elsewhere.

A good pre-Christmas location. Fairly high-specification all round.

We usually stay at the Ibis on the other side of the internal square, but treated ourselves to an 'upgrade'. What a lovely choice we made. We didn't have dinner or breakfast so can't comment on those, but our room on the third floor was clean, quiet, well appointed and larger than we had expected. What more can you ask for? I hope we'll return on our next visit to the lovely city of Bruges.
