“Ibis Brugge Centrum”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

This is a very basic hotel with average facilities.

Positives: It's in a great location and the beds are very comfortable, rooms cleared daily. There is BBC1 and BBC2, if you want to hear news in English.

Negatives: Cleanliness is average and our room stunk of cigarette smoke! This was a surprise to me as I'm based in the Uk and it's not been an issue I've had to deal with for many years.
The towels are worn, there is no bathroom fan. Rooms are tiny, walls are thin and the hallway is noisy.

Overall, it's fine if you want cheap accommodation with central location for a girls/boys weekend but it's not for a romantic weekend!

This is a newly built hotel just as one enters the old city. It also has a public car park next to it which, in Brugge, is very very handy! The car park was 8.7 Euros a day, which is fine. We arrived there quite late, so ate in their restaurant, which was very acceptable - a lot better than we feared it might have been as we got there just before closing. The room was excellent. Bathroom a bit small I suppose, but perfectly adequate. Good vale!

We used to stay here for our frequent visits to Bruges but changed to the adjacent Novotel about 2 years ago when we felt like a change. Tried the Ibis again, and it was clean, comfortable, has BBC1 & BBC2, but no longer ITV. It has good free wifi now. Breakfast was disappointing and expensive in the past, so we went out, and were well pleased. Car park is handy, and nearby shop is always good for English papers.

This hotel is within 5 mintues walk of all the great Bruges sights. What you get is predictable Ibis, functional without in any way being luxurious. Free wifi is a bonus and car parking for €8.70 per 24 hours in the public carpark next door is good value. No evidence of being dirty or smelly as described elsewhere, indeed the rooms were clean if a trifle old fashioned. For under €90 a night for a room at the weekend this makes a lot of sense. Note that there are lots of coach parties and the buffet breakfast can be really busy at 9AM then empty at by 9.30.

Pretty good all round!
Bed: The bed is gorgeously comfortable, though the pillows are either too bouncy or too soft!
Bathroom: OK, but the shower kept falling out when you turned it on... bit sloppy. The towels are awful, too.
Room: Very pretty and stunning - big wooden beams and vault ceiling, love it!
Facilities: Ate at the restaurant, very good - bit pricey but nothing out of the order.

No tea and coffee/kettle was a let down, and the housekeeping left a lot to be desired - we came back one day at 7pm to find our room hadn't even been serviced. They days it had we found they were pretty careless.

The reception staff are lovely, very friendly and multi lingual, a great asset to the hotel

So overall not bad, but they seriously need to sort the housekeeping before it becomes an issue! Bruges is a gorgeous city, this hotel is perfectly placed for the station and city!

Room Tip: Room on the front side seemed quiet

My girlfriend and I booked the hotel online. We were given a smoking room upon arrival despite not requesting one. In fact, I had no idea that hotels even allowed smoking anymore. Initially, it wasn't bad, but after returning to the room after a walk, the smell was overpowering and the air seemed to be affecting my lungs. We asked if it was possible to switch rooms and were told there were none available by one of the workers. When we asked a different employee, he said there were many rooms available that were nonsmoking. Apparently one of the workers was just unwilling to help us out. After making the switch, everything was fine. Our "double bed" was two twins pushed together, but that seems standard for Europe. Location is good, takes about 10 mins to get to the center of town. There is a nearby mini market to get food and drink, but it closes at 7. Overall, the hotel was fine, but the smoking rooms should not be given out at random, especially if they are not requested in the first place.

It does what is says on the tin. Great location, nice welcoming staff, plenty of restaurants close by. Rooms clean and well kept. Like others in this chain don't expect nice smellies in the bathroom or even a shower cap. Towels need improving they were paper thin. Great bed very comfortable. Didnt have breakfast felt it was expensive at 14 euros so we found great little coffee shop close by for less than 6 euros each. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would go back..........very good value for money!
