The amazing food and informal atmosphere make this a great place for a casual night out. We loved the relaxed, friendly service and small but tasty menu (no vegetarian entrees, however). Would highly recommend going here!

Bruges is currently blessed with host of young chefs all bent on achieving the highest quality. Lieven, run by a husband and wife team, is a leading example. This small, beautifully and meticulously designed restaurant is on a main street, but it has not, thankfully, attracted the mass tourist crowds, and is, for the most part, a haunt of the more appreciative locals. We had a full blown lunch on our final day in this wonderful city and were delighted by everything we ate. We concentrated on fish/seafood, all of which was beautifully presented and lovingly and thoughtfully prepared. Service was slick and very friendly, and the chef/owner made several appearances to discuss the food and the place. But it was not busy, and I can imagine that on a busy day or evening, the service might be more "relaxed". We were told as much. They are not interested in punters who want a quick meal. Nor do they aspire for stars or awards, which they feel would destroy the atmosphere they wish to create. This is a place for the serious food lover, and is highly recommended. Small but attractive wine list, and, by London standards at any rate, all very reasonably priced!

This is a restaurant that doesn't look special but the food is terrific if you really like good food. I'm writing this review mainly for our waiter who tried very hard to create an image of serious efficiency, and who carefully translated the menu for me and my wife. Thank you. But I was really insulted by you replacing the normal wine glasses with large red wine glasses for the two gentlemen on the next table who had half a bottle of the same wine as us - but not doing the same for us. And your humourless efficiency went all wrong when you could not remember which coats were ours. Finally, come on, after an expensive meal I don't want to have to get up and come to the till and pay! Small niggles - but these things stick in the memory. Highly recommended otherwise and so much better than Au Petit Grand where we went the previous evening.

What an amazing meal. Went here based on feedback from Trip advisor reviews and thought service may be slow but we could not have been more wrong. The food was amazing - i had pasta with clams - pasta was to die for as were the clams and the amazing sauce. Venison was delicious too. We all had great food, only tiny negaitve was that the plates could have been hotter but it is a minor moan compared to everything else which was fab. As for the service - we are english with no flemish/dutch language skills and the waiter was charming and helpful, explaining the various dishes in a very clear and friendly manner. Service was attentive but not intrusive. There was only one waiter serving but he managed the whole restaurant well and no-one appeared to be waiting or not able to get his attention if they wanted it. Good wine recommendation too made by the waiter. If back in Bruges we will definately make sure we eat here again.

We have eaten at the very best.
You name them-- we were there -- early and often.
Tonight we had a wonderful meal at this wonderful restaurant
with great service and warm welcoming hospitality --
and simply wonderful food of great quality and absolute freshness.
From razor clams right out of the ocean to the sweetest langoustines perfectly cooked to tiny tender baby lamb chops
our meal was as good as a meal gets.
And then
we topped it off with a luscious hot Belgian chocolate soufflé.
We have never had better!
Absolutely World Class!
Do not miss this restaurant
if you know great food and love it!
