“stunning surroundings, great hotel”
Reviewed 10 November 2011

obviously this area of bruges is truly beautiful and this hotel is no different. it is a stones throw (literally) from the main market square, surrounded by stunning classic architecture this hotel is very modern and classy. didnt eat here as wanted to eat out. the room we were offered wasnt the cheapest in the city but was well worth the money. if you can time your stay around the christmas markets it is very enjoyable weekend, ice skating ring in town center surrounded by markets + cafes. definately reccommend. ..........(the film in bruges is set in the market square to give an idea of what it all looks like!) it snowed while we were there, mrs thought it was really really romantic + my brownie points went through the roof!!! there was an ice festival on and i cant reccommend visiting if its on again, one of the most impressive things ive ever seen, beautiful statues of ice,ice bridges, an ice bar, huge dinasaurs you can walk up and slide down. amazing.

Unless you put up a tent in the marketsquare, which obviously is not allowed, this has got to be the best location to ovnight. Its is steps away from market square and other of the core sight seeing places. Your car is quickly driven away by the concierge and stored in in the public parking, unter the hotel. Public parking is not cheap but as center gets very busy, it beats parking ticketsband fines. Hotel has fitness, swimmingpool and some of the best service I experienced in a long time. Rception staff go out of their way to make you conforable. If you plan a romantic dinner, try the Visscherie, not cheap but well worth it and steps away from the hotel. A good option for breakfast is Le pain quotidien, again steps away and a greatbdifferent formula from the usual stiff table setting.
If you can, get a junior suite under the roof, best ever.

Room Tip: Side if square has great view but can get loud at night.

Stayed here for three nights, very convenient location, just off the Market square. Rooms spacious, bed comfortable, tea and coffee making facilities and yummy hot chocolate. Usual things like iron, trouser press, hairdryer and flat screen tv with plenty of stations including English. Bathroom clean, fixed shower over bath. Reception staff helpful although not very knowledgeable about local veggie restaurants. Breakfast was rather hectic - good that you could order poached eggs but they took over half an hour to arrive each morning and then not for us both or at different times. Would certainly stay again if in Bruges.

Two of us stayed at this 4* hotel for one night during Oct 2011. It's hard to believe how central and ideally located this hotel is – you are literally right in the middle of a UNESCO world heritage site. There are many shops, restaurants (offering a variety of cuisines), bars, and historical attractions very close by.

Before we even arrived, the hotel website proved a good source of useful and accurate information – particularly helpful as we were driving to Brugge. Arriving in this old city was like going back in time – we found ourselves bumping our way down several quaint cobblestone streets lined with people, shops and amazing architecture and suddenly we were there … the Crowne Plaza Hotel right in midst of it all yet a strangely peaceful area. It was surprisingly easy to get to. The hotel car park is located directly under the hotel with access to a lift which took guests to the ground floor of the hotel – certainly worth the €21 just for the convenience of it – convenience you often have to do without in old cities.

The hotel's reception area was bright and modern and the staff friendly, efficient and welcoming. We got there quite early but we were still able to check in.

The food: This hotel seems to have two restaurants – not entirely clear to me if they are hotel run or independent. That night we tried the ground floor one so we could sit outside as the weather was so nice. We had the set priced buffet dinner menu which included starter, main and dessert dishes. We thought it was reasonable for the price. There was a good variety to choose from and you could go back as many times as you liked – they even had delicious fresh oysters! Not top quality food, but tasty and more than adequate for the money. There is no great necessity to eat here anyway, as there are a multitude of other eateries within easy access.

The bathroom: Generously sized, with the bath/shower providing a steady stream of hot water with good pressure. The toilet is in a small cubicle within the bathroom, it was a little dark in there. The bathroom was shiny and clean and very well lit with lots of mirrors so you could see yourself from every angle. Big towels, bath robes and lots of complimentary toiletries. Everything you would need.

The room: We had a lovely large room with lots of light and a big window. Even though we did not have a view of the Burg square we were more than satisfied. There was plenty of space to move around, an area to hang clothes as well as shelving. We had a safe which we used as we were out of the room quite a bit. The king size bed had lovely crisp, freshly-laundered bedding and big fluffy pillows which, if I'm being really picky, were a little under-stuffed, but the aromatherapy sleep spray by the bed was a really nice touch. We could also make tea/coffee in the room (apparently this is rather unusual for much of mainland Europe), and were also able to get ice from an ice machine just down the corridor to use with drinks from the minibar. The flat screen tv had a wide range of channels. Everything was so good we almost did not want to leave the room!

The Location: Of course we did leave the room, and with this hotel being so ideally located for many of the main attractions in Brugge we were easily able to walk to many of them – I suggest comfortable flat shoes; shoes with heels will be ruined by the cobblestone roads which although very pleasing to look at, are not easy on the feet. We were lucky and had great weather, hot and sunny but we were told it is not usually that warm and dry.

The Grote Markt is literally a minute's walk away if you cut through the Burg square but it's hard not to stop and browse through the little shops along the way; the Burg itself has some notable attractions – the Basilica of the Holy Blood (a holy relic) and the City Hall – both ornately decorated inside and out – to name just a couple. We were told that the holy relic is only on view to the public on Friday's but for some reason we were able to see it on a Saturday. For a small fee people can go up and touch the relic and pray – there was a queue for this too and I imagine it gets quite long on a Friday.

We tried a horse and carriage ride which you can hire (approx €40 with tip) from a marked area in the Markt; at one point it goes right past the front of the hotel, we had a very friendly driver who told us interesting facts about the different areas we went through. I noticed some of the guides did not speak much – it may be that some people preferred to sit back and enjoy the view quietly. It is worth getting to the Markt early to avoid wasting time waiting in very long queues for the carriage rides. Of course, with the Crowne Plaza hotel so close by, it's not a problem beating the crowds and getting there early.

In Brugge you won't want to miss the historical sites, great shops, people watching, enjoying some mussels, frites and Belgian beer, the renowned beer wall and of course all the chocolate shops – this hotel is perfectly placed for everything. We never got around to trying the waffles and many other things; there was simply not enough time to see and do everything Brugge has to offer – at least when we return we know a fantastic place to stay, and this time we will try the pool, sauna and fitness centre.

Overall this 4* hotel is well worth the money and perfectly located for visitors to Brugge. Everything we experienced was good.

ps. We should have bought more chocolates home!

Room Tip: We had a room with a king size bed which was lovely despite not having a view of the Burg. I guess t...

We stayed at this Hotel for one night and we will definately be going back. The Hotel is in a very good postion in the centre , the rooms lovely and spacious. The only downside would be the 22 euros charged for breakfast, when we go back l think we will go out for breakfast as we noticed you can get a good breakfast on the square for 7-8 euros.

Very nice hotel just off the main square in Brugge. As usual for a Crowne, the rooms were very comfortable and these were also particularly spacious. The breakfast buffet was also v. good.
