“Comfortable and reasonably priced hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2012

Stayed here for three nights. Picked this hotel largely due to price and was not bothered by other reviews that referred to the hotel as budget or not luxurious. We were pleasantly surprised as hotel was pleasant and the buffet breakfast was very good. Rooms were clean and comfortable. But as other reviews have mentioned this hotel is located next to an area with several nightclubs and bars and we were woken every morning between 2 am and 6 am by shouting and yelling. Sadly I would recommend staying in a different part of Bruges only because of the noise. You will not sleep on any night of the week.

Room Tip: Higher floors maybe more quiet but I doubt it

Stayed for two nights with two fellow travellers sampling Belgian beers. Hotel was very clean and tidy, attentive staff with breakfast included. Literally two minutes walk to the square. Certainly not a luxury hotel but very clean, tidy and great location.

As stated in other reviews, this hotel is ideally situatedto explore the old city, just minutes from the Markt. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, and we found the full "continental" breakfast ( also had scrambled eggs and bacon for anyone wanting that sort of thing) to be excellent, with very attentive staff who instantly replenished anything appearing to be running low. However, the down side, and it is way down in our opinion, is the close proximity to the nightclub La Bordega. We arrived on a Tuesday, and all was quiet that night. However, on Wednesday and Thursday nights, the noise went on until sometime between three and four o'clock in the morning - not just loud music but the sound of dozens (hundreds?) of loud young voices talking, shouting, yelling etc. On Friday night, which was our last, although the club appeared to be open, it was considerably quieter. Of course this may have been attributable to the three police vehicles which were observed to be parked nearby from eleven o'clock onwards.
So, this quaint, old fashioned hotel has a lot of plus points, but unless you arte in the 18-30 holiday demographic and keen to join in the fun, I would give this one a miss.

Room Tip: Avoid the front and side of the hotel

The staff here are very helpful and polite, and the hotel is extremely clean and very conveniently placed close to Market Square. However on the downside, if you are unfortunate enough to get a room at the front of the hotel dont expect to get to much sleep due to the proximity of Le bordega night club right across the street. The music and the patrons are extremely noisy as late as 4am. Also buses run past the front of the hotel.
Another negative is we were given a room on the 3rd floor where the bathroom was less than desirable. The shower screen was not sealed properly and the floor flooded every time! Floor boards creaked terribly too, although being an old building perhaps we can let them off that one!

Room Tip: Go for the rooms at the rear of the hotel and on the lower floors

I booked this hotel purely based on location and price, having checked out the reviews first of course.

We first went to find the hotel at about 11am, check in wasn't until 3 but we were able to leave our luggage in a lock up so we didn't have to drag it around with us. The hotel was easy to find and close to the Markt. Inside the hotel looks a little dated but that didn't stop us enjoying our stay. The room was spacious and clean, with an amazingly comfortable bed! The only negatives I have is that the shower lacked a little power and the 'full breakfast' wasn't quite what I expected, it was the usual cereals, pastries, breads, cheese & ham and then a small amount of bacon and egg. Still, what we had was nice but I had envisaged a wider selection.

The staff were very friendly, spoke excellent English and even allowed us to leave our luggage there after checking out the next morning. Would definitely return.

Great location - easy walking to the sights and a bus stop close by. Good restaurants and bars in easy reach. The only noise was from the street on Friday night - but not excessive. Good breakfast buffet in pleasant surroundings.

Old and unspoiled, safe but not cheap. Hans Memling Hotel is good value & friendly, in walking distance to the centre of town. Canal trip a must, horse drawn carriage trip around the old town also. Saturday Market worth a visit, but town gets quite crowded on Saturdays. Great resturants throughout and thousands of local beers - Der Gouden Carpel is terriffic, but watch out for the bill!
