“Wonderful hospitality!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2012

We chose this hotel based on TripAdvisor recommendations and were not disappointed! We were happy they had accomodations for our family of four, an elevator for my father and parking for our car. It had everything we were looking for! The breakfast was fabulous and the owners went above and beyond to help and make recommendations. We would definately stay again.

Hotel Ter Duinen is a charming hotel that offers old world ambience with modern comforts in the rooms. Both our rooms (#35 and #36) were large and comfortable. King size beds, flat-panel TVs, high-tech lighting. And newly-renovated modern bathrooms with great showers, sinks, and plenty of closet space, hangers, and extra pillows. A second door between the hallway door and the bedroom ensured almost non-existent hallway noise. 2 sets of well-insulated windows meant almost no noise from the road outside our room (wish we had these in NYC!).

The owners and all their staff provided warm, efficient service and were so welcoming and helpful from the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out. The provided excellent suggestions for things to do, side trips, and restaurants of course.

Room Tip: #36 is excellent for older travelers requiring a walk-in shower.

We could not have chosen a better hotel in Bruges for a short break to celebrate my wife’s birthday. My wife, two grown-up children and I stayed at Ter Duinen for three days in late March. The location was ideal, a lovely old house on the banks of one of the city’s many canals, only a short walk from the city centre, but quiet and peaceful and away from the main tourist thoroughfares. We could look out from the windows of our rooms to see picturesque gabled houses on the opposite bank of the canal.

Breakfast was delicious with plenty of fresh fruit and perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs, together with bread and rolls, cold meats, cheese and jam, and as much hot coffee as we could drink. Our hosts were friendly and helpful, especially when we asked for advice on hiring bicycles to go for a ride into the Flanders countryside, cycling on top of the dykes along the canals towards the sea.

Bruges is a lovely old city, easy and relatively quick to reach by train from London, which made for a relaxing start and end to the holiday. We spent much of our time wandering around on foot, admiring the buildings, the architecture, and feeling as if we had gone back in time a few hundred years, while staying in a hotel that was both friendly and comfortable, and a part of the city we had come to visit.

Nice place to stay - a short walk from the center of town with parking. The couple who runs the place is very nice, helpful, and both speak excellent English. The room was comfortable, and I loved our canal view. Breakfast was a buffet (but good).

Chains take note this is how it should be done.
From the first greeting to the final goodbye the atention to detail was excellent. We booked for three nights and thorougly enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable room with a new modern bathroom, unfortunately not much of a view which would have been nice (next time we will ask for a canal room). 1st class fresh breakfast with plenty of choice each morning served in a lovely light and airy dining room overlooking the canal. Freindly staff and knowledgable owners, always with a smile to greet you makes all the difference.
Well done Ter Duinen!

Room Tip: Ask about room selection before you book if canal view is important.

Ter Duinen is the most charming hotel one could imagine. It is situated on a quiet canal, yet within a comfortable walk to the centre of Brugge. We stayed in a room with a canal view, which delighted us every morning. The room was a generous size, the beds extremely comfortable and everything was very clean. From the moment of arrival the staff were courteous, friendly and keen to help in any way. I particularly appreciated the little touches; fresh flowers, a lovely smell in the air, a beautiful little lounge and garden, historic posters on the walls. The breakfast was ample, all of good quality, very pleasantly presented. This was our second visit, and we hope to return. We'll definitely continue to recommend Ter Duinen to friends and family.
