Reviewed 23 March 2014 via mobile

We liked this hotel. Yes, reading other reviews, I agree it is a bit dated and the plastic shower cubicles have seen better days. The decor could do with some updating and, with some nice paint etc, it could make a really nice boutique hotel. I would suggest replacing the shower cubicles with free standing baths as I have seen in other Bruges guesthouses.

Good points - secure parking onsite (although inexplicably £10 per night), nice big room (number 5) overlooking the garden/park, comfy bed, good breakfast (self service), friendly dogs.

Could be better - aforementioned shower cubicle which, although clean, was a little grubby with age, no tea/coffee facilities in room (did have them downstairs).

What ruined it for us though was the noise, not outside (birds singing, lovely) but inside due to poor acoustics. We appreciate it is an old building so some noise is to be expected but on our final night a couple arrived late and proceeded to crash and bang around in their room, tv blaring, shouting at each other until 3am. When I mentioned this to the guy in reception he just laughed and for this reason we won't be going back. The proprietors in general seemed very pleasant but his reaction was just plain rude.

The place was great. It was situated within a large park, and had beautiful grounds surrounding it. It was lovely staying in a park setting but within 10-15 minute walk to the old market square. It was also a short walk from the train station, most of the way actually walking through a park to get to it.

We had a little bit of difficulty finding the place, but it is what we do best - get lost.

We had Room #4 which was very spacious with a totally separate room for the washroom and a lovely garden view. We felt like we were staying in someones Manor Home.

The breakfast was excellent. Very nice selection and the coffee was ready early.

We loved the 2 very well behaved dogs who greeted us at every step. Would definitely recommend.

A little tricky to find but so worth it! Wonderful service, beautiful old mansion, large comfortable room, comfy bed and not too far to walk to the centre of town. Unfortunately the weather was absolutely awful when we were there and the owner kindly lent us an umbrella when one of ours was broken in the driving wind and rain. The hotel had a lovely, warm feel to it. Great value for money too...would definitely stay there when next in Bruges.

We stayed in Hotel Egmond for two nights of our Honeymoon in November of 2013. Overall, this hotel is an excellent (really excellent) value for your money. It is closer to the train station and outskirts of town than to the historic center, but everything is an easy walk or bike ride. The gentleman at the desk (owner? general manager?) was so kind and helpful! Our room was extremely large. The breakfast was very good - lots of variety, however be sure to get there towards the beginning/middle, at the end things get rather picked over, and cleanup is (extremely) prompt.

Travelers should keep in mind that this is a historic building, which means that not everything is perfectly clean or up-to-date. That's part of the charm! That said, I think it is probably due for some updates - ones which maintain the historic charm of the estate, of course.

My boyfriend and I stayed in this lovely little hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of December. We were warmly welcomed at the front desk and shown to our room at the back of the hotel. It was small, but came with wardrobe space and a dressing table and was perfectly adequate. The bathroom was a small pod in the corner of the room, but again fine for our needs. There was no tea or coffee in the rooms, but a 24/7 help yourself service on the ground floor. A hairdryer also wasn't provided, but was available when asked for at reception.

Breakfast was buffet style, there seemed to be plenty to go around with regular top ups. The staff were friendly and welcoming and offered a quick whip round tour on a city centre map upon arrival.

Location was perfect, a 5 minute walk from the main station and a 5 minute walk from the central market and was set on a beautiful little street.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay and highly recommended for a comfortable stay!

Excellent hotel in old part of town. Building is an old mansion in a park area and a little quirky, but rooms are warm and clean making an enjoyable stay. Very good breakfast and accommodating staff/owners. Good value for money for accommodation in this historic town. Highly recommended.

Loved this hotel!! Makes you feel like you're in the country but only a 5-10 minute walk to center of bruges. The rooms were huge in European standards with windows that look on gardens and churches. The breakfast was delicious and you wake up to the smell of freshly baked bread. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again!!
