In late June we stayed four nights at Die Swaene, an old boutique hotel which fronts on a canal and is just steps from multiple large squares, shops and restaurants in the center of Bruges. Hotel staff is friendly, hospitable and eager to please, including offering to prepare breakfast items you especially like (even if they're not part of the already lavish buffet). Our room was large, comfortable and seemed to be steeped in history. It also had direct access to a glassed-in sun porch near the swimming pool. When we departed for the railroad station, the cab summoned by the hotel was new, luxurious and driven by a very professional young lady who arraged with railroad workers to assist us to our train there as well as being available to help us when changing trains later in Antwerp.

Room Tip: We like the small building complex where the front desk is located, but haven't heard any complaints about the other buildings.

Great little oasis in a busy tourist town. Treated like royalty. Loved the staff. We were greeted warmly and provided a tour of the hotel. Such a nice welcome. The room was a little tired but everything you would need was provided. Room was larger than the typical European room. Would have liked a coffee pot in the room. We were offered an upgrade to the canal view but preferred the inside quiet room with air conditioning. The lobby area and tea room was so charming. The pool was a nice relief from the busy streets of Bruges. Included free wifi. The included breakfast was to die for! Every kind of fruit, eggs made to order, fresh bread and pastry. Lovely little quiet breakfast room. We liked staying in the main building rather than the annex. Close th the pool and breakfast room.

We stayed in the Die Swaene hotel for 2 nights in September and were very impressed. Our room (72) was in the annexe across the canal from the main hotel building. It was not very large, but was luxuriously furnished, and had a fantastic bathroom, although care was needed in the shower not to spray water over the floor. It was wonderful to sit by the window in the room and look at the canal. The staff were all really friendly and attentive.

The pool was a bit tired, but it was very quiet, and we had it all to ourselves.

The restaurant (La Pergola) is in the same building as our room, and has a wonderful terrace where you can have a drink and watch the boats on the canal. We did not eat there as it was fully booked.

The hotel is extremely close to all the central sites of interest (5 minutes walk), yet is very quiet at night. No problems sleeping in our comfortable beds. The only gripe was that we had asked for a double bed, and got two singles. However, they did upgrade us to this room. Apparently the rooms in the annexe are far superior to the main hotel.

We would not hesitate to stay here in the future if we return to Bruges, which I'm sure we shall, as it is such a beautiful city.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the annexe

We only went on a weekend trip to Bruges and stayed in Die Swaene. If you're looking for a modern, design hotel, this is certainly not the place to go. Die Swaene is an authentic hotel that gives you the impression to turn back the time (some centuries), service and breakfast are excellent, the beds look very, very old but are comfortable and we did enjoy a good night's sleep. The hotel is situated in the center of Bruges so you don't need your car to visit the town.

What a lovely hotel ! We stayed for 2 nights together with our friends and had both a room in the main building overlooking the canal. The staff was uttermost friendly and helpful, breakfast a real feast, situation perfect close to all major sites.
We had diner in the Pergola restaurant and were fortunate to be able to eat on the terrace: what a treat ! Romance at its best.
We will definately return.
