Wow, what a great hotel with a great location. We only stayed 1 night in Bruges, but the Die Swaene was definitely the best hotel in a 4 city tour. The room we had was huge--I believe we were upgraded to a suite, and it was like being in an old European mansion. Nice sitting area with a fireplace (which we didn't use) and comfortable bed and sleeping area. THe public areas of the hotel are also mansion-like. THe breakfast had a nice array of cohuces, and the foood wwas very good. The hotel staff were exttremely friendly and outgoing, which really helped make our short stay there great. We would definitely stay there again on future triops to Bruges.

Arrived in Bruges late Saturday afternoon in high season as a party of 6 to find that the hotel we had booked was a fleapit. Spent the best part of an hour going door to door in the Old Town looking for accommodation but to no avail. Then this kind man approached us and asked if he could offer assistance. Turned out that he was the Manager of Die Swaene and although this hotel was in a different price bracket to what we had planned we bit the bullet as he was so nice and helpful.

Wow! Timeless elegance. That's the best way to sum up Die Swaene. I will definitely be visiting again and I can recommend this superb establishment to anyone who wishes to kick back and feel very, very special.

Two minutes walk from the Old Town Square and almost every other main point of interest - just an ideal location - and with its own car park.

Room Tip: The Old Town is quiet so there really is no preferred side of the hotel if you are a light sleeper.

My boyfriend and I have just got back from a four day trip in Bruges where we stayed at Die Swaene for three nights.
The hotel is in an excellent location - the Markt and Burg (the main squares in Bruges) are only a few minutes walk away and the canal side location make the hotel very quiet at night with beautiful views over the water.
On arrival, we were met by cheerful staff who carried our bags to our room. The room was spacious and well furnished with a spotless bathroom. Free toiletries and fruit were provided.
Our stay at the hotel was excellent - the staff were extremely flexible (letting us leave our bags in the hotel after check out and cooking us breakfast after we slept in over the offical 'cut off time'!) My only regret is that I forgot my swimming costume and didn't get to try out the pool.
I would recommend Die Swaene to anyone and would definitely stay there again. My only word of warning is do not be too hasty to commit to having breakfast at the hotel every day - although the breakfast was very pleasant there are lots of local independent cafes that also offer breakfast nearby if you wish to sample a variety of what Bruges has to offer on the culinary front.

Room Tip: To get a canal view, you will need to book a deluxe room or a suite.

You can't get any more authentic: right on a canal, steps from everything you probably want to see and everywhere you want to eat, in converted, centuries-old buildings. It's like staying in a museum. This was the only hotel that the guide on our canal boat trip pointed out. The rooms, accessible by small winding staircases or a small lift are clean, of comfortable size, well-furnished and well-equipped, with modern bathrooms. They're a little underlit, and the paint and carpets could use some touchups, but we stayed there at the end of what apparently was a very busy tourist season, so maybe that was to be expected. In any event, it did not detract from our visit. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was large and delicious and served on Limoges china in a beautiful, room. There's even a small swimming pool and a sauna. Parking (for a fee) is available around the corner.

Room Tip: Definitely request a room overlooking the canal and watch for the swans floating by in the morning.

Our room, while overlooking the canal, was old and tired. The bathroom was poorly lit, small, and had horrid water pressure in the shower. Yes, the whole place is old, but it really needs some help. Odd smell throughout.

The staff was helpful and friendly, breakfast was nice. This came rated as the best in town - if this is the best, would hate to see what the others are like!

The location on a canal in the centre of Bruges is simply the best. The hotel is quiet and I imagine if you are in a canal facing room the outlook would be wonderful. However our rear facing room (onto an air conditioning unit and flat roofs) was not attractive. The decor of the hotel is quite dated and "frilly" but I am sure would suit many peoples taste and the main sitting room of the hotel is a magnificent historic room. However our room was dull, with an unfitted mini-bar, a TV mounted very high on the wall and not a great deal of wardrobe space, however it was the bathroom which was the greatest disappointment and to be honest it really needed to be refitted - currently tiles which needed re-grouting, three small down lights over the basins and no light to the rest of the room. I am not certain what the selection of hotels is like in Bruges so it might be that this is indeed one of the best and certainly came recommended to us. The service was truly charming and helpful and the buffet breakfast had a wide and fresh selection.

Room Tip: I didn't see them but I would think those overlooking the canal are greatly preferable to the on...

Stayed one night for business (recommended by a colleague) and really enjoyed it. The rooms are big and the atmosphere of the hotel is pretty cool. Will definitively recommend it to anyone travelling to Bruges.
