Die Swaene is a lovely hotel in the hart of Bruges. Staff is friendly. And yes: the breakfast is great. BUT: in our view the price they are charging is entirely not in line with the quality of the room (bathroom and toilet are not what you expect in a **** hotel, small tv set, no airco - they put the heating on so the room was way too hot to sleep in). We paid 260 euros for one night (bed, breakfast and parking) and were expecting something more. Sorry guys...

HOWEVER: go to the Pergola Kaffee - it's their restaurant at the other side of the street. 4 course menu for 60 e. De-li-ci-ous !

We staid for 1 night in a superior luxury apartment which is located across the canal from the hotel reception.
We got a very good deal because we booked midweek, at a quiet season, last minute (same day), and the sauna/fitness center was closed for repairs so the owners gave us a good deal on the room.
We booked directly by calling the hotel. We originally choose this place because it is one of the only 4 stars in the center of Brugge with a sauna and wellness center (which was closed during our visit but they gave us a discount on the room for that reason).
The hotel is charming and decorated in richly colored velours with lots of antique touches and knicknacks everywhere. It does not have a chain hotel feel.
The outside of the hotel is discreet and not at all as fancy as others in its category; for a more luxurious feeling upon arrival the tuileries, ravenstein, or orangerie are good competitors.
The hotel is located on the prettiest canal in front of the oldest bridge in Brugge where all the tour boats stop for people to take pictures.
We had reserved the highest quality room but were first taken to a standard, canal view room and were not impressed (it seemed dusty, old, and not very fresh to me). It was a misunderstanding (? not sure in fact if it really was a misunderstanding, but anyway....)
We were taken across the street to the luxury rooms on the canal with private fireplace in the room. Rooms were recently refurbished, very rich textiles and colors, canopy bed, very nice and romantic.
These rooms are adjacent to the restaurant, which was closed on the night of our visit; I can imagine you may have some noise from the restaurant especially in good weather if people are eating outside you will definitely hear them thru the open window.
There was wifi in the main hotel but apparently it didn't reach to the annex across the canal so no wifi in the highest luxury rooms (bit odd no?)
Breakfast was great, in a pretty dining room. You had a good selection of ham, cheese, salmon, and you could order eggs, in addition to normal bread, jam, cereal, yogurt, fresh and dried fruit, etc.
All in all a good choice for a romantic escape of a day or two if:
- you get a good discount on the room
- you stay in the new luxury rooms across the canal

Lieven and his staff were all excellent. They gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel extremely comfortable. They were very proud of their hotel and with good reason. Our canal view room on the first floor was delightfully decorated, very clean and spacious. The hotel is in the perfect location being a very short walk to almost everything Bruges has to offer. The recommendations Lieven gave for dining out were fantastic, we have never eaten better food. All in all, our stay was an absolute treat and we can not wait to go back again.

The photos on the website are a bit exaggerating the luxury of this hotel. But all in all the atmosphere of the town, the location of the building and the friendly staff make this place attractive. Don't expect too much and you'll enjoy it!

We stayed at the Die Swanne over the May bank holiday weekend. We were greeted by a less than friendly staff member, who treated us as a bit of an inconvenience when we asked any questions, but thankfully the rest of the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was fine, but the worst bit was that the staff just charged in whenever they wanted without much of a knock. On two occassions we were caught unaware one very embarassingly so. MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE SECOND LOCK OR THE DO NOT DISTURB SIGN ON THE DOOR! The room had character but was probably not 4 star.

The hotel location is great but as we discovered Bruges is so small it doesn't make much of a difference where you stay you can pretty much walk anywhere. The hotel restaurant is very expensive, but all Bruges restaurants were very overpriced, and the staff very rude so be prepared (Although to be fair to them they do work very long days we saw one guy at 9 for breakfast , serving at lunch and he was still at the same restaurant waiting at 11 at night!). The hotel pool looked nice, although we never managed to use it - they say it is outdoor but it is fully covered in a greenhouse so is pretty much an indoor pool.

Bruges itself though is so beautiful, with medieval streets and lovely canals. Would recommend for a romantic break anyday, and would also recommend the Quasimodo bike tour which is a three hour tour of bruges by bike which is fun and allows you to see some sites on the outskirts.

We stayed in this little family hotel for 3 nights and were really impressed.
Our room was lovely, the service was outstanding and the restaurant with its wonderful terrace served delicious food. The restaurant has a good ambiance to it.
Definately go back when we pass through Belgium.

Just returned from two day stay - don't be put off by the outside look of the hotel - inside is great and the staff are excellant
Car park is on the opposite side of the canal from the hotel
A very good stay - we had room 35 which had a great view down onto the Canal - the room was a bit small but very clean and well appointed - but then again - when you stay in a city you do little else in a room except sleep and as Briuges is such a great city to visit that was exactly what we did
Staff are great and obviously proud of their hotel
