“Nice hotel”
Reviewed 12 June 2012

We've stayed 2 nights at the hotel. The hotel is very well-located in the centre of Bruges. All attractions are within walking distance. We arrived by car and had to park our car on the curb to unpack it. After unpacking we had to park it ourselves; it would be a nice touch if someone from the hotel could park the cars from their guests.
Our room was on the top floor. It looked nice and romantic, but it was somewhat small and lacked amenities like bathrobes. Beds were comfi and breakfast in the morning was great. The clerk at the reception (Eddie) gave very good suggestions for restaurants.

Lots of great hotels in this city but this is by far the best that I have experienced in Bruges. The comments made by previous reviewers about the outstanding level of service, attention to detail and professionalism are spot on. From the moment you step into the Bourgondisch Cruyce you just know that you won't be disappointed and have picked a first class place to stay. The staff are superb and nothing is too much trouble. Upon arrival we parked our car a short walk away while we checked in and found out where the hotel parking was, not expecting that the guy at the check in was going to go and fetch it, park it and also bring our luggage up to our room! An impressive welcome. The hotel couldn't be in a better location, situated smack bang in the middle of the old town by the side of the canal and a short stroll away from everything. The hotel car park is within easy reach and in a coded garage, 25 euros per day, not absolutely necessary but parking could get difficult at busier times of the year, so it's nice to have the option. The hotel gives guests a discount card for many of the attractions and museums in Bruges. Inside the hotel is peaceful, the owners private art collection hangs on the walls and the attention to detail in the decor is lovely. We opted for breakfast in the hotel and weren't disappointed, yes it's 25 euros but it is a champagne buffet and the selection of hot and cold foods on offer was very good indeed. We certainly left very full and I can't imagine you would pay any less for the equivalent outside, again it's all about personal choice and we sure enjoyed it! We found the Bourgondisch Cruyce to be very impressive and it was just what we wanted for the money, excellent hotel, excellent staff, would go back there in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 31, up in the eaves and although some reviews have said it's too small, I disa...

We stayed here for 3 nights the beginning of May and absolutely loved it! Such a beautiful place with a perfect setting and very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was on the top floor (lowest category available) and we were not disappointed. Beautifully furnished with a truly comfortable, cozy bed and with a gorgeous marble bath! The location was unbeatable! A short 3 minute walk to the Belfry and right on the Canal! We loved the hotel and would absolutely stay there again!!

My husband and I traveled through France, Belgium and Holland in April, two weeks and six hotels. We always book either 4 or 5 star hotels, either through personal recommendations or reviews on tripadvisor. I booked this hotel after being bumped at the last minute by the Grand Hotel Casselberg in Bruges. I was very upset about being bumped, and yet it turned out this hotel was the highlight of our vacation. After reading reviews I requested the 2nd floor, because it sounded like the 3rd floor was vaulted and had smaller rooms, and my husband is 6"5". I booked a standard room. We were greeted by Eddie, the most charming, helpful front desk clerk ever! The lobby is tiny, impeccable, with real art and Louis Vuitton trunks as tables. The hotel is on a beautiful canal. The outside is brick, black planters and sculpted box gardens. We were given a lovely room, decorated in Ralph Lauren muted stripes and flowers, with white wash walls and floors. A large room, sitting area, and hall to adjacent marble bathroom. Free wi fi, and a wall of french windows that open. We did not have a view of anything, and it was still lovely. Yes the showers always leak, but they are just like that in Europe, we have gotten used to it and put towels down before showering. You do leave your key, and they lock the front door, but it is not inconvenient, you are quickly let in, and handed your key with out even giving your name. The room is spotless, charming, romantic, and it is the first hotel in all of Belgium that actually gave us chocolate at night! It is on one of the main streets with shopping, restaurants and within walking distance of all major sightseeing attractions. You could even walk from the train station if you wanted, we just had no idea where to go, and had luggage. The taxi was 7 euros. Breakfast is 25 euros per person, we opted for a croissant instead, in town. Thank you Eddie for a wonderful stay!

We stayed here for 2 nights in early May and loved it. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, with lots of little details everywhere, and our room (the lowest room category) was actually quite large, with a huge bed, and all the amenities one could need. It is truly a special hotel, rather than any sort of run-of-the-mill or chain hotel. The only thing that was a bit odd was that the front door was always locked, so we had to ring the bell to get let in to the hotel, no matter the time of day. However, someone was always at the front desk, so it wasn't a big issue. The location of the hotel cannot be beat.

We can't say enough about our stay in the Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce hotel! The hotel is full of charm and character. From the moment we walked in, Eddy was warm, friendly and had a great sense of humor. We enjoyed our stay so much at the hotel, we changed our flight to add one more night in Brugge. After staying in a 5 star hotel in Paris, we found this hotel to be a breathe of fresh air and much more enjoyable! Breakfast is amazing, afternoon waffles/coffee is amazing as well! Sharing stories with Eddy in the evening was a delight, he was kind enough to show us the "book". We also recommend eating at the hotel's restaurant, it was just as perfect as this little canal hotel!

I'm afraid I am unable to share the sentiments of the latest reviewers of this hotel. I am very surprised that this hotel ranks #4 at the time of writing.

I had high expectations for this hotel, having read other reviews. Instead, for a steep price which didn't include breakfast, I got a tiny (standard) room on the third floor with barely any space to put our luggage or move around. Just as well it was a weekend trip for us, and our bags were not too big, but I imagine this will be a problem for people traveling with large suitcases.

There weren't the usual amenities that are generally expected of a four star hotel (what more a "luxe" hotel). No kettle and tea/coffee making facilities in the room. No mini-bar. No bedroom slippers even though the wooden floor was cold and not comfortable to walk on. The heaters in the room and bathroom were not switched on, which made for extremely cold mornings and nights. The bathtub only has a handheld shower and no glass panel which led to a very wet bathroom floor. The double bed was also very soft in the middle.

We had a slight problem with our car. The receptionist was fairly helpful in answering questions but I wouldn't say he went out of his way to assist us.

The only thing going for this hotel is its location and the fact that it overlooks the canal. But that's about where it ends. I should also mention that if you like sleeping in and your room is facing the canal, you will hear tourist boats chugging by your window from early in the morning with accompanying loud commentary.

I switched to Novotel Centrum Bruges, a 3-star hotel, the next night and had a much more comfortable stay.

I certainly don't think this hotel is worth the rate charged. I believe its possible to find a hotel that offers much greater value elsewhere in Bruges.
