“fantastic jewel in Bruges”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

This is a charming little hotel, old, very well looked after, and gorgeous bedrooms but with modern bathrooms. there are original works of art around, inc Klimt, Matisee, Botero

location is perfect, next to the canal, very close to market square

Staff were lovely, and really helpful, which was welcome when I was feeling rather ill.

This is an old hotel, with oodles of charm; it is not for those who dont want the narrow stairs or creaky floors or patchy wifi.

Room Tip: there is some noise from street and from the canal, but thats the central location

Booked this due to reviews on Tripadvisor - and it more than lived up to expectations. Not only a stunning location and fantastic appointed rooms - everything is just perfect. The staff could not be more helpful - what would appear to be going out of their way, seems to the be the standard. The hotel has been kept in the original setting, with 21st century additions that blend in. You must enjoy the breakfast there - especially with a glass of Champagne and watch the beautiful swan float past. I need to work out a trip back there - Bruges is a beautiful town and this hotel is the epitome.

Room Tip: Room 15 on the first floor at the back, although not a full canal view large and so comfortable.

This hotel was perfect location. Not too far from the train station. One could easily walk but if carrying a suit case, it's preferred to take a simple taxi at the cost of 7-10€. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. I really liked room 31 (standard). Such a cute view from probably the tiniest canal facing window. The only thing I didn't like about the room was the "shower." There is a bath, with a removable handheld "shower" but be prepared for ducking in order not to hit your head on the ceiling. Bring dry shampoo, girls! It is very difficult to wash hair but fairly simple to properly rinse. I found this property very charming and very much in the heart of Bruges. I would definitely stay here again. While the price for my stay was very expensive.. You're in Bruges, it's by default expensive, location is on spot, and it's super romantic. Do not bother with commercialized chain hotels. You want to feel like you're in Bruges, stay here. Also, the beds are super comfy and the room decor is so charming.

I had booked this hotel based on trip advisor and I really wasn't disappointed, absolutely stunning!!

The whole package was great from really friendly staff and knowledgable, they even packed my car in their secure car pack a little bit away from the hotel but very safe. The hotel is self is very old and full of character, very elegant and beautiful my girlfriend was not disappointed. Would recommend to anybody with good taste

If you like old hotels, this is where you should stay. At that, the hotel could be treated as “old” only because it is in the old-styled building where, for example, you should not expect high ceilings. The style inside is also could be deemed as “old” but only because it is specifically, very nicely and delicate made in the old-fashioned style. But you could expect and you will find inside completely modern things: service, utilities, free WiFi. I could not say more because I just loved staying here. All the more, we first of all stayed in Bruges than in hotel. But finding ourselves in this perfect hotel, I have realized that this hotel was a perfect complement of our staying in this “”frozen in centuries” but at that, magic and life-giving city. I am definitely planning to return as I completely disagree with those who says that it is enough 2 hours for Bruges. And when I return to Bruges, I will return to Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce. Besides I liked the hotel as it is, the hotel is perfectly situated in the very heart of the city. And if it mean something to you, the scenes from the movie “In Bruges” were filmed in this particular hotel :)

We stayed here for four nights - our first time in Bruges and as it was a special occasion we treated ourselves to this hotel. On arrival, we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff who gave us an informative introduction to the city and recommended some restaurants for us to try. The hotel is in a great location, very close to the market square, but in a good position for seeing the rest of the city. Our room was beautiful and spacious enough (standard size); although we could have done with some extra storage just to tidy our things away. No tea and coffee making facilities in the room, which we would have liked. We had breakfast on the first morning and intended on eating breakfast out the remaining mornings of our holiday because the price, at first, seemed high. The breakfast was high quality - delicious cheeses and meats, bread rolls, fruit, fruit juices, eggs, bacon, waffles, chocolate, sweet biscuits. There was also champagne but we didn't bother with it - saving ourselves for beer later in the day. Breakfast service was a little panicked at times, and some food slow to replenish, but staff were stretched. Anyway, after sampling a cafe breakfast for 10 euros which was very standard, and quickly learning that Bruges is generally expensive for food and drinks, we decided to eat breakfast in the hotel for its quality and value - and would recommend doing this. The room is also beautiful with views over the canal. Thanks for the staff for all their help and great recommendations, which made this trip a particularly great one!

This was a suprise trip arranged by my partner in Dec 2013. I forget which room number we were in however it backed onto the lake and was absolutely gorgeous. We got engaged here on 12.12.13 on my birthday! Staff were quick to congratulate and thanking us for sharing this special time in their hotel!

We booked private transfer through the hotel which was suprisingly easy and Im glad we did as a lovely mercedes benz arrived at Brussells airport to fetch us and helped with bags. We did have another person travel home with us as he missed his flight and the hotel said they would give him a ride back to Brugge to wait for another flight.....the driver asked if this was okay and of course we didnt mind! I dont imagine this is general practise but it didnt bother us anyway we thought it was kind!

On arrival we were greated by the most friendly welcoming staff who showed us to our room which was gorgeous!! The hotel is so quiet and beautifully decorated throughout. Rooms are very clean however do lack storage...only one very small cupboard for clothes...however we managed and really you dont need longer than 3 days in Brugge so it was okay for our clothes.

The bathroom backed onto a little square where a little cafe/resturant bar was and it was always pretty quiet but do remember to close the curtains else you will be in clear view!!

The hotel is literally on the doorstep of the main square. Me and my partner were shocked how loud the street was until you turn left to the path to the hotel and suddenly SILENCE! So so peaceful and romantic!! IGNORE reviews saying about a boat being noisey on the lake...this is a lie...we saw the boat going past throughout the day but noisey??? ..no.

There is a TV and it does have many french and german channels but sometimes you can catch a few old english programmes for back ground noise when getting ready.

Only fault is...MIRRORS! There is a mirror in the bathroom, but due to the layout of the basin its difficult to have makeup on the side and the full length mirror on the back of the door is too dark ... I just put my makeup on bathroom window sil and sat on the floor as i do at home and worked from a compact mirror!

BOOK THIS HOTEL YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! AMAZING LOCATION AND EVERYTHING WAS SO PERFECT!!! Thank you to all the staff for being so lovely you made our stay very special!

Room Tip: Our room faced the lake, gorgeous views and very quiet.
