“Still the best hotel in Bruges”
Reviewed 9 September 2009

I have stayed at Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce before, but this was my Husband's first trip to Bruges.
Our travel agent tried to talk us into the Swan Hotel, but I stood firm on my choice. We were so glad that we were not dissuaded. (Update--the Swan annex is currently in the shadow of the construction of a new hotel and currently has a large crane looming over the Pergola Cafe.)
The staff couldn't be more attentive and our room (room 231 on the canal) was a delight. Yes, the rooms are not as large as some American rooms, but the charm of the hotel far outweighs any limitations that a smaller room presents. The bathrooms are quite modern with marble floors and a large tub. I can't imagine a better experience.
We opted for breakfast in the dining room on two of the four mornings and, although I have read other comments that it was not worth the money, I must remind you to take the weakness of the American dollar into consideration when you are evaluating the cost. Your choices are not restricted to the buffet--you may request any type of eggs, omlettes, pancakes, waffles, breakfast meats, etc. and they will happily prepare them to order.
The guides that they use are simply the best in the business and you will have an enjoyable, informative day and a wonderful memory of your visit.
Yes, the boats on the canal can occasionally be heard as they pass by your window (tours usually don't begin until 10:00 AM and end around 7:00 PM), but it is a momentary distraction and a confirmation that everyone wants to see this historic place--and you are staying there!
Granted, I stayed in the older, original section of the hotel--they have purchased the house next door and enlarged the lobby to accomodate this addition--but I still believe that the location, charm, and unbeatable ambiance will win your approval of this great hotel.
I would gladly stay there again and my Husband is now a convert as well.

A small quality hotel in the heart of Bruges. Beautifully decorated and appointed, we were all made to feel special the moment we approached the reception. It was like entering a different world, which is just like a high class hotel should make you feel. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Bourgondisch Cruyce to anyone and will definately use it again. Special mention to Eddie and Frederich, two of the best staff we have EVER encountered in ANY hotel ANYWHERE. Thank you.

Me and my fiance stayed at this hotel for two nights after a two week trip around Europe. We drove to the hotel using a Tom Tom - don't try driving in Bruges without one! Found the hotel no problems, but you have to be looking for the sign, this is Bruges not Las Vegas. The staff at the hotel were brilliant from the beginning and showed us to the car park which is about a three minute walk from the hotel. The parking is very secure and it's nice to have the car so nearby.

The location of the hotel is perfect. It sits on the most famous corner of the Bruges canals. The building is one of the oldest in Bruges so don't come here expecting the Burj Al Arab. Squeeky doors and tiny windows are what we loved about the place; it has a lot of character!

The staff were absolutely brilliant, and made us laugh more than once. They are very professional and friendly. Our stay here was the most enjoyable of our two week trip, and of any other we have had... and we've had a lot.

Having read some of the negative reviews of this hotel, all I can say is to do your research, this is a medieval building in a medieval town. It is cosy and beautiful.

I honestly cannot recommend this hotel enough for a romantic stay in Bruges. The Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce markets itself as "The Legendary Boutique hotel".... and this is not an exaggeration!

100%.... we're already looking forward to our next stay in December!

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous! We loved it and thought it was one of our best finds yet. Our room was canal side and very nice (small but we fit just fine) and the bathroom was wonderful. They have a nice lobby and gorgeous lighting and a very knowledgeable staff. We would highly recommend this hotel. If you are driving be sure to opt for their parking (it's a good block away but they will park for you) because the other lots are further and it's nice to have your car close by. It's very difficult to drive in Bruge so be sure to get a Tom Tom with your rental car, they work amazingly well.

We drove to Bruges and on arrival, left the car outside the hotel (VERY limited space on a narrow street!) and a member of the team valet parked in a nearby car park for us. Check in was quick and easy and our room on the second floor was absolutely gorgeous, with a marble bathroom, robes, a huge, comfortable bed, tasteful furnishings and flat screen television. The room was spotless and the view charming. It's worth mentioning that our room was next to the lift and I was woken up at 7.30 on the Sunday morning by the noise of the lift in use. However, I went back to sleep and it certainly wouldn't put me off staying here again (even in the same room). My partner thought the air con wsa a little noisy but I didn't notice!
We didn't have breakfast because it did seem pricey and there are plenty of cafe's in Bruges at which to stop and eat. Check out was as fast as check-in and our car was brought back to the front of the hotel upon departure. The gentlemen at reception were friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel couldn't be better. We absolutely loved the Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce and would go back in an instant!

Well worth the price. Our room overlooked the canal. I will never forget the sun in the morning coming through our window. The view is something out of a fairy tale. Breakfast by the fireplace made for a relaxing beginning to the day. The staff was incredibly accomadating and even had a whiskey ready for the end of the day.
