“As Good As It Gets”
Reviewed 8 February 2010

I promised Frederic I would find the time to post a review of the wonderful stay we had at the RBC. As you can see from the many reviews here, it's a remarkable hotel, with an outstanding staff, and a singularly fantastic location. As I stated above, in Bruges, it's as good as it gets, period! I'm not sure if we were given the room that was used for the movie, "In Bruges", which was shot there because we were from Los Angeles and, yes, in the Entertainment business -or if they just recognized my wife who is a actress, but either way I get the feeling all who stay at this rare gem of a hotel are treated like a celebrity. Honestly, we've stayed at some of the most lavish, exclusive and renowned hotels in the world, and we both agreed that the RBC just made our top 10 list. Don't even consider staying anywhere else in Bruges. The RBC is a rare treat, which if you have the opportunity to stay here shouldn't be missed. As for us, it will be our home away from home in Bruges from now on.

I would totally agree with all that's been said in the many positive reviews of this hotel. It really was an enjoyable experience to stay here. Our rooms were cosy yet spacious, each with enormous bathrooms. We would like to especially say thank you to Freddie and Eddie at reception, who helped us make the best of our short stay with good advice on what to see and where to eat, as well as helping us when one of our party discovered that she had lost her passport on check in!! It didn't ruin the weekend, but it could have...

All four of us would love to return and this hotel should be at No.1 not No. 2!!

Having walked form the train station to the hotel, through the snow and cold weather, from the moment we walked through the door into the hotel we realised we'd chosen an amazing hotel. The member of staff who greeted us and then showed us to the room was very professional and friendly. We were very impressed with the cleanliness and styling of the room and also the luxurious and romantic feel to it. When booking the hotel we decided not to book into one of the rooms overlooking the water as this was slightly out of our budget, instead we booked into one of the other rooms that ended up overlooking the hotel entrance. We weren't disappointed with this as the view of the water was still able to be seen. The room was softly finished, with a large, stylish bathroom. Our package didn't include breakfast, but we still ended up having breakfast on a couple of mornings as the restaurant setting was stunning as it overlooked the water. The furniture, along with the real fire created a very relaxed and exclusive feeling........the complimentary champagne also added to the moment.

Due to Eurostar disruptions over the Xmas period we ended up having to stay in the hotel an additional night. As we struggled to get any information from Eurostar, we were reliant on the hotel staff to keep us informed of the situation. All the way through, they kept us updated and we couldn't praise them enough for all they done for us and they're a real credit to the whole experience of staying in this wonderful hotel.

We would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a romantic stay in Bruges.

Right from the very beginning, Frederik and his staff made us feel like royalty. This is such a beautiful and charming hotel. We had drinks by the fire when we first arrived then they made dinner reservations for us at their wonderful restaurant a few blocks away. Had a tasty champagne breakfast in the morning, and later on that day when we were going on a carriage ride they even prepared a thermos of hot wine and mugs for us.
The view of the canal from our window couldn't have been more picturesque. Our room was filled with beautiful antiques, as was the rest of the hotel. Probably our best hotel experience ever!

I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat, it was fantastic. Such a romantic setting, I felt privileged to stay here! The staff are so welcoming, the rooms are wonderfully appointed and the breakfast was delicious (champagne and freshly made Belgium waffles!). Very personal service, such a cosy and romantic atmosphere- a truly unforgettable experience.

Having been to Bruges before decided to splash out and try the Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce spending four nights including New Years Eve. First two nights were spent in a standard room in the new part of the hotel. It was a very spacious and clean room - however it had no view whatsoever. Last two nights were booked into one of the luxury rooms and we were given room 30 which is located right at the top of the hotel with a canal view. The room was smaller than the standard one but was cosier and of course had the canal view.

Now, I have no compalaints about the service, and indeed the rooms were ok BUT for 4 nights we paid 1,300 euros which EXCLUDED breakfast and parking and NO tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms either!. To me this just represents very poor value for money - I have stayed in much superior hotels and paid far less.

As I said the staff are very courteous and the room where the breakfast is served is pleasant enough - you can relax here in the evening and have a drink - and from a location point of view you are in the centre of the historic part of Bruges, but again I cannot see how the prices can be justified. Maybe if we had had one of the better luxury rooms I might not be grumbling - but surely the rooms should be priced accordingly?

This is a small hotel and does have a certain charm to it but think carefully about how much you want to pay - better value can be found elsewhere!

My husband and I just returned from a week in Belgium. We were lucky enough to stay at Relais Bourgondisch for 2 nights over New Year's Eve. This is a special place to stay and Bruges is a beautiful place to visit. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the canal and in the morning when we opened the curtains swans were swimming right below our window! The room was charming and romantic. We enjoyed the breakfast in the morning as well overlooking the same gorgeous canal.
The hotel itself is elegant and well managed. The staff who were most helpful, arranged for our New Year's Eve dinner at their restaurant which was lovely and made a great recommendation for the next night as well.
We highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a special place to stay in Bruges.
