Not sure if this is true or not, but went along to have a look anyway. Long queue of people waiting to go in. No speaking allowed, and was told abruptly by a concierge to ssshhhhh!!! when I asked someone in the queue if they would like to go up before me to view the Holy Blood, as I was searching for some euros in my purse to make a contribution in the collection box.

If this is Holy Blood, then I am thankful that I got to have a look.

When we went the area with the vial was roped off so we didnt get to see it close up.

However this is a beautiful church and well worth a visit.

We spent about 20minutes here taking in the architecture but I'm sure if you are religious you would like to spend much longer in what seemed a very peaceful and reflective place.

Just of Burgplatz you'll find this beautifully ornate church - remnant of aab extensive castle that once stood on this site. Now the little chapel is all that remains as newer buildings - like the town hall - have sprung up around it!

Bespoke stone work and gold gilt work on the exterior is equally matched by the ornate breath taking interiors.

I genuinely suggest this is one of the must see historic buildings in the centre!

Highly recommended

In one corner of the Burgplatz is the Church of the Holy Blood. A relatively unknown site, at least until you get to Brugge, the Church houses a vile of Jesus' Blood. This iconic treasure is often presented for veneration and visitation.

We visited during a veneration period, by chance, and were able to get within inches of the vile. For a small donation, located right next to the vile, you can get the up close view and a small prayer pamphlet as a take-away.

The viewing of the Vile is certainly a significant life event; however, the Church is absolutely beautiful. Although small, the Church is somewhat of a leftover Church that was once part of the castle within the city. From the outside there is no visible steeple or indications of a Church; therefore, it appears as a rather large addendum to the old castle.

This Church should be on your to-do list in Brugge.

While visiting the city my wife and I went to Sunday mass and found the church to be beautiful and a good choice. The architecture and artifacts are fantastic to view and we took time after the service to sit and enjoy this historic building, thankfully parts of the service are in different languages.
Well worth the time to visit and we will return again,
many thanks
