Owner description: The most important of Bruges' towers stands 83 metres tall. It houses, amongst other things, a carillon with 47 melodious bells. In the reception area, waiting visitors can discover all kinds of interesting information about the history and working of this unique world-heritage protected belfry. Those who take on the challenge of climbing the tower can pause for a breather on the way up in the old treasury, where the city's charters, seal and public funds were kept during the Middle Ages, and also at the level of the impressive clock or in the carillonneur's chamber. Finally, after a tiring 366 steps, your efforts will be rewarded with a breath-taking and unforgettable panoramic view of Bruges and her surroundings.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

The Belfry in the Markt is a must when in Bruges, but expect a long queue. The tower can only accommodate 70 people at once so we had to wait for about 1 hour. There's a fantastic view from the top but the stairs are quite steep and narrow at times.

“Narrow stairs but worth the walk”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

Go early for shorter lines. Only 70 are allowed in the tower at any time. Disappointed that there was so much chicken wire on the top, preventing good photos but understand safety comes first. Loved being on top and hearing the bells and music play. Worth the walk just to hear and see the bells chiming

“Tough, but worth it”
Reviewed 1 May 2014 via mobile

Make sure you are up for going up nearly 400 steps before you stand in line to go up the belfry. The stairs are sometimes tricky and if you go when it's almost closing time there will be people going up and down which makes the journey harder.
Having said that, the view is beautiful and totally worth the effort.

“Well worth the climb”
Reviewed 1 May 2014 via mobile

We did this at about 9.30 one morning, when the lines were very short. We bought a museum card here which got us up the tower for free as well as getting us into various museums free (average admission 6-8 euros).
It was a long climb up to the top and we had several stops to "admire the view". Once up the tower there was a great view of Bruges and while we were there the bells chimed which was lovely. There is only one way up and down so you need to take care as people are coming down while you are going up.
