I wanted to climb this iconic tower but was frustrated by the lengthy queues and long waiting times. The solution was simple. I got there at 9.15 and waited 15 minutes for it open and strolled in. The 366 steps weren't a stroll but there are interesting things to stop off and look at and you don't need to rush. When you get to the top the views are stunning. The best thing I did while in Bruges. Highly recommended

We climbed the Belfry of Bruges with our two girls (aged 12 and 9) and loved it. It got our heart rate up but we were able to rest on the different levels. The view from the top was great, as was hearing the bell tune while we were up there. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone with really bad knees - quite steep coming down!

This is definitely worth going to but be aware of
3 key things:

1) Get here ready, there is always a queue as the tower can only accommodate 50 people at any time (so 1 in 1 out)

2) The steps are incredibly steep and narrow; especially at the top near the bells. They are navigable but not for the frail or faint-hearted!

3) the sound of the bells at the top is brilliant and worth the visit...if you can cope with (1) and (2)!

The Belfort is a magnificent structure. Beautifully built and when you venture onto the tower the views of Bruges are stunning.

The view of Brugge from the Belfort top is second only to the fascinating mechanism of the clock. It’s entirely worth the loooooooooong climb up. If you get claustrophobic, avoid it. The stairway is really narrow. It was raining when I climbed up and the experience was magical when I reached the top. And, the clock chimed just in time for me to record some priceless videos.
