Owner description: The 115 metres high brick tower of the Church of Our Lady is a perfect illustration of the craftsmanship of Bruges' artisans. The church displays a valuable art collection: Michelangelo's world-famous Madonna and Child, countless paintings, 13th-century painted sepulchres and the tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold.

We saw this in 2009 but maybe not allowed to leave a review this old. I don't think I've ever stood in front of a piece of art so long as this one (except maybe David in Italy) but its breathtakingly beautiful. Its a large statue and so eloquently done. He was a true one of kind Artist, amazing. Pictures are allowed and the church wasn't crowded at all, everyone is so nice who guide you through the church and give you the history of the sculpture.

While the church is undergoing renovation, you can still go in to view this beautiful sculpture that was stolen by the Nazi's during WWII and recovered by the group of people who were memorialized in the movie, The Monuments Men.

The church is currently being restored but the parts available for viewing are excellent. Fabulous stained glass windows are a highlight.

The church is undergoing extensive renovation so it’s difficult to tour, but the Madonna and Child area is unobstructed. We’d seen the Madonna and Child previously, but after the movie “The Monuments Men”, the statue takes on a new meaning.

At first I almost freaked out because I thought that it was closed for renovations, however it is still open. Some of the artwork and different things are covered on the inside but the Madonna and Child are still uncovered and because of the renovation you can see it for only 2 Euro! Even with some things covered up it is still a must see and really beautiful.
