Owner description: The 115 metres high brick tower of the Church of Our Lady is a perfect illustration of the craftsmanship of Bruges' artisans. The church displays a valuable art collection: Michelangelo's world-famous Madonna and Child, countless paintings, 13th-century painted sepulchres and the tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access

Of all of the highlights in Brugge, the Madonna with Child is argueably the most famous icon located in the city. The recent movie "The Monuments Men" centers on the search and recovery of several iconic art pieces including the "Brugge Madonna".

The Church is undergoing massive restoration efforts and most of the interior is covered in tarps and scaffolding. The entrance fee to view the Brugge Madonna has been reduced to one Euro due to construction (well worth the cost). A small segment of the Church requires the entrance fee but most of the Church that is open to the public is free.

Make sure to visit the gardens and the old stone bridge just outside the Church. This time of year these outside venues are very picturesque to include streetside classical musicians.

After seeing the movie "Monuments Men", I couldn't wait to see the Madonna and Child. This is a treasure for all who have the pleasure of seeing it! It has been a while since a piece of art has affected me so deeply. The church is also a treasure and hopefully will get all of the funds necessary to restore its magnificence.

The church needs a lot of restoration, but we were happy to pay the small fee required to see the statue. It will be nice one day to return to see the church in its full grandeur.

We did not see clear signs with the church name anywhere. It's under extensive renovations inside and only a portion of the church is open for viewing. The area where Michelangelo's statute is located has a 1euro fee to be allowed in. The remaining area that is not closed due to construction is free.

The beautiful Church of Our Lady dates mainly from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. It has a tower of 122.3 meters in height, It´s the second tallest brickwork tower in the world!!! Amazing!
