Lovely place just to sit awhile and people watch while also taking in the view and listening to the bells in the Belfrey play Roses of Picardy and It's a Long Way to Tipperary on the hour!!!!

When I visit Brugge I always visit the Burg a few times. Lots of great photo op's from here. Plus my favorite chocolate shop "Stef's" is located here. Enjoy

Smaller than the main square with a similar cobbled surface, large numbers of pedestrians and cyclists coming at you from all directions, not to mention the horse drawn carriages. The surrounding buildings are mostly gems with a smaller square adjoining on the south-east side. A restaurant with outdoor seating and a varied selection of shops lead to it from the belfry square. The chapel that holds the vial of Christ's Blood is located at one corner - no entry charge, apart from the museum, although they appreciate a donation towards the maintenance of the fabric. The exit to the west takes you across the canal and straight to one of the canal boat tour boarding 'harbours'. A general warning is to watch out and take sensible precautions against pick pockets.

We were in Bruges around the first of June, and...wow. This is a huge central square, with very nice architecture, lined with cafes, restaurants, chocolate shops, all sorts of shopping, but I could not believe how many people there were. It was full. It looked like Disneyland the week after Christmas. I have never seen St. Mark's Square in Venice or Old Town Square in Prague (the most comparable spaces I can think of) with nearly this many people. Everything else aside, it's almost worth seeing for that.

The most obvious location to visit and it is very attractive spacious and there is lots to admire. The square is surrounded by cafe's and restaurants but they are more expensive to eat and drink at when compared to elsewhere or even a quarter of mile away from the square, there can be lots of tour groups and school groups at stages of the day.
