“Lovely”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

We were not expecting a luxurious room and knew about the minute bathrooms so were not disappointed. Everything functioned and the comfortable bed had good quality linen. It was a shame there was no free wifi. Hiring tea and coffee making facilities seemed a bit expensive but it was good that the excellent breakfast was included in the room price. Windows out of reach so no view of anything, but room very quiet although hotel was full - only disturbance was from smokers talking below in the courtyard in the night. Very convenient location and hotel very easy to find. Great to have a front door key. Parked in the nicest underground car park I have ever seen, which was close by and only €7 per day. Main drawback was no guarantee of getting the type of room you specified when booking.

A lovely relaxing hotel right on one of the canals. I stayed with my daughter and we stayed in the honeymoon suite which was quite reasonable for such a lovely, scenic and well looked after room. Lots of space in the actual room and the bathroom with windows that opened out onto the canal. The breakfast was included and was quite substantial with fruits, croissants, eggs, ham and variety of yogurts and drinks. The only negative thing was that the hotel charged extra for the wifi access even though the rest of Bruges had free wifi. The bus to the train station was just to the left of the hotel which was really handy for getting back to the station.

Having stayed here several years ago, I had fond memories and was desperate to take my little girl back with me, I love bruge and the hotel is convenient. The welcome we recieved was through an intercom by a very unhelpful receptionist who couldn't advise us on where to park... Not easy to explain that the car has a roofbox on through a crackly intercom. The room we had was horrible though. It was painted grey and had grey towels and a window that opened onto the courtyard where people are permitted to smoke, so the room smelt of both smoke and drains. It was barely big enough to fit the small double bed in and there is a severe need for redecoration. It was dirty and depressing and completely spoilt our stay. I know there are much nicer rooms in this hotel, but this felt like a prison cell, as if we were being punished for booking through a third party. I had fond memories of this hotel but would never ever go back there now. S disappointed

Room Tip: Don't accept a room on the black corridor. I think ours was 16 and was not the worst on this cor...

We were charmed by this little hotel. We arrived early on a rainy day and stored our luggage until our room was ready. The friendly receptionist gave us directions to the nearby parking garage and also kindly lent us umbrellas. We also received a delicious box of Belguim chocolates b/c we reserved the room on their website. Parking was 8 euro for a 24hr period and is in a secure and cleanest garage we have ever seen. Our small room was right on the canal! Our windows opened up nice and wide and we could watch the tour boats travel past. The queen size bed was comfortable. The bathroom was like a camper trailer bathroom with saloon doors. We are large people and we had no trouble. Just get wet using the hand held shower nozzle, soap up, rinse off. Voila! What other reviewers saw as a negative we see it as adding to the charm. Breakfast was served in a nice clean room. There was fresh muffins, bread, cold cuts, boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt, juices and coffee. We were well fed as we stepped out to explore the living museum that is Brugges. The location of the hotel is perfect for walking anywhere. We travelled with our elderly parents and we had no trouble at all to get to the main city square. Walking slow it was about 10 minutes away. The hotel is old and a little tired in places but it is clean and unique with wonderful staff. We loved our stay and so will you. If you want a reasonably priced hotel in a great location in a very expensive tourist zone, this hotel is for you.

Despite some of the harsher reviews posted on here, my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Situated close to the main square but away from all the hustle and bustle, there were plenty of well-priced restaurants to eat at in the near vicinity, excellent views of the canal and short distance walks to all the main attractions, as well as areas close by which are off the beaten track. The room itself was of a medium size with a pod-like bathroom in the corner; although I can see how some people may have a problem with the size, it was absolutely fine for us and I think the hotel staff are friendly enough to find you a room with a bigger bathroom should you request it. The staff have clearly noted some of the customer complaints, providing glasses in the bathrooms and offering fresh fruit alongside the other choices for breakfast as were requested. To put it in perspective, in comparison to the £300-per room-per night 4* hotel we stayed at in London the night before travelling, Hotel Ter Reien was just as large and clean, with staff who were just as friendly and helpful. All I would suggest is to bring deet spray/mosquito nets as it gets warm in the room come the evening and having the windows open invites mosquitos in (due to the canal location). We would definitely return in the future!

This hotel is in a great location for seeing Bruges. From here, it is easy to walk to the canal boat tours, the Belfrey or the main square. Plent of restaurants and bars are nearby. We had a room with a canal view, which was excellent for watching the canal boats and feeding the ducks. Breakfast costs 16 euros. I would recommend it if you are only staying a couple of days but after that, it might get repetitive. Bathroom was clean and functional but tiny. It was perfect at the the price for a one night stay.
