From the moment we entered the building we were impressed with the decor, the staff and the atmosphere. We had booked a hot deal with room allocated on arrival but had emailed ahead requesting a canal side room which is what we got with a huge, very comfortable double bed and additional single bed. The bathroom had a bath and the room was very homely, with little touches like flowers and mosquito plugs appreciated. The Hotel is located a pleasant 5 minute walk from the centre of Brugge. Everyone was welcoming, informative and very efficient. The paintings and furniture throughout was totally in keeping with the character of the building. There is also a small bar/lounge area where we had a nightcap, read our books and listened to some relaxing clasical music. Perfect end to a very enjoyable day in Brugee.

Room Tip: Emailing ahead and requesting a canal side room worked for us, cant comment on what the other rooms were like but ours on the first floor was lovely.

We stayed at this atmospheric hotel for a week in a standard room on the first floor which had a delightful view of the bridge and canal. It was clean, comfortable and quiet at night with some period furniture. The room was small, although for a couple, perfectly adequate. Unfortunately, there was no hair dryer ( annoying when you have long hair) and no hook or shower curtain, just a hand held attachment on the bath. Despite there being no heating on and fairly cool outside, it was very warm and we slept without the covers on and the windows open! The towels were changed each day but we noticed that the room was not hoovered during our stay. We thought this poor, considering we stayed for 6 days. Room service appeared rather lacking and there was no porter to carry our bags up the steep stairs. No tea/ coffee making facilities. There was a mini bar in the room but prices not provided. The tv was basic, but satisfactory and there is Wi Fi which is slow, but free! The breakfasts were particularly good - a selection of croissants, bread, ham, cheese,(gorgeous Brie!) eggs, fruit, toast and cereal. The waitress brings tea or coffee to your table. We found the staff efficient and polite, rather than friendly. We only saw reception, cleaning and waiting staff all week- no managers in sight! Hotel Ter Bruge is peaceful and relaxing overall. Although it has a lovely bar area, we were disappointed there was no option to dine there in the evening, so you have to eat out in Bruges. For this reason and the others above, we would rate it as 3 star, rather than 4 star accommodation. But the location was perfect. We would still recommend it for couples, despite the faults we found as it's just so very pretty and enchanting! But I would not recommend it for families- we have young children and both agreed that it was not particularly family orientated.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise in our experience. Ask for a room with canal views as they are fabulous.

Such a lovely hotel on the canal in Brugge. I was delighted to find a full bath in the en-suite, and enjoyed pampering myself in the bubbles for the two nights we were there. My husband, who prefers showers, didn't like that there was no curtain to keep the water in the tub and found showering awkward. There was no safe in the room, but that was the only other problem really. A beautifully decorated room in a building from the 1500s, with a very good continental breakfast in the cellars of the building. Ambience and staff friendliness are wonderful, and the décor was gorgeous. It was also close to the town's marketplace, and just really good overall.

Room Tip: I would choose a room overlooking the canal instead of front-facing for noise issues.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and whilst it was a really nice building, I was slightly disappointed by our room. We were in a standard room at the back of the building which was a bit dark with no view at all out of the window. The decor could have done with a bit of a spruce but the room was clean and the staff pleasant.

Breakfast was a strong point; standard continental fare but in a lovely room right by the canal. I'd imagine the superior rooms which overlooked the canal would be very nice so could be worth an upgrade. All in all, perfectly reasonable hotel but I'd possibly try elsewhere if I were to go back.

Room Tip: Don't necessarily expect a view with a standard room

This is a wonderful quaint hotel right on the canal, our view was exceptional. Surprisingly, and very welcome, it was quiet during the night. We didn't have any street noise though there were some creaks and groans as you might expect in a hotel of this age.

The room could be described as small and with no frills. However, the bed was comfortable and the linens were very soft. We had a small bathroom with a tub, no shower, which my husband didn't care for. I personally enjoyed a long soak after hiking stairs all day. There was a small tv that we didn't turn on and a minibar that we didn't investigate.

The service was exceptional, quite nice and accommodating throughout our stay. A small breakfast was served in the canal level dining room and it was fun to see the swans and ducks float by. The hotel is very conveniently located. You'll have to hoof it to the parking garage which is a 5 minute walk but since most people in Bruges are wheeling luggage behind them it seems to fit the ambiance. The walk to most of the major attractions is less than 10 minutes and there is numerous lunch and dinner restaurant options close by.

We would return to this hotel easily and hope to return to Bruges soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal room!
