This hotel is great if you like:

An old an authentic looking exterior and interior
A hotel by the canal
A hotel near some excellent restaurants
Being woken up throughout the night, and then constantly from 9am onwards...
Excessive floorboard noise from above you, beside you and from all of the stairs...
The soothing noise of other couples and families talking from every adjacent room...
The noise of other couples 'petting' in every adjacent room to yours...
A shower head that you have to hold in your hand ...

I paid £80 for a night with my girlfriend, I'm glad we were only there for one night and I wouldn't go back in a hurry. This review may be a touch harsh, the place looked really nice and I can't expect an old building with wooden beams to have the sound absorbency of a modern hotel, but I really did leave thinking that it was a bad stay, not just an average one.

Room Tip: Go for a canal view room, the economy rooms just look over the inner angles of other buildings.

Hadn't been to Bruges before so booked Ter Brughe for its central position. Needn't have worried as Bruges is so small but the hotel was good but not brilliant. We had a canal room that was a bit tired but the bed was comfortable. When I go again ill book somewhere else.

Great location, walking distance from everything in Bruges, which is a beautiful city at Christmas time. Very old hotel, creaking floorboards and thin walls that enable you to hear every detail of your neighbours conversations!! Bathrooms could do with being updated, but all in all an enjoyable stay. Breakfast was good, very novel being served in the basement right beside the canal!

The hotel looks quaint and is in a good location but the rest is rather disappointing. Parking is a nightmare in Bruges, although I was lucky enough to find the last possible place outside the hotel. You need to book a space in advance if you want to park at the hotel, which I did not know until I arrived. The room itself was small and cramped - too much furniture in a small space! Had a lovely view of a fire escape and brick walls!! The bed was comfortable but the pillows felt like bags of cement and there was a bright green light directly over the bed which illuminated the whole room throughout the night. There also appeared to be no sound insulation so you could hear people talking, etc well into the early hours! A hotel to avoid, I'm afraid!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the canal.

When our existing hotel suddenly went out of business, we (a mature couple) needed to find a new room. Hotel Ter Brughe came up as a viable option. It was a generally good experience. Built in the early 1500's, the hotel is still very solid and quiet. We asked for canal-side room, which was delightful. The canal itself, too, was quiet until around 9:00 the next morning. The staff were very helpful and the bed, whilst not looking like much, was incredibly comfortable. Our only comment would be that the rooms could perhaps use a refitting, as the furniture was somewhat tired (but perfectly clean and in good condition) and not sympathetic to the incredible building itself. Also, due to the age of the hotel, there is no lift /elevator - not a problem for us. I would recommend this hotel.

As an aside, my partner was hoping for authentic Belgian waffles and we found a delightful place around the corner from the hotel, next to the Jan van Eyck statue. It was called Delisa and is located on Brugge Jan Van Eyckplein. The waffles were light and crispy and the coffee strong.

Room Tip: Plump for the canal-side rooms if you can.

Stayed for one night in Sept 2013. Room was comfortable and quiet location above canal. The breakfast was exceptional and plentiful. Only issue we had was that no Tea/Coffee making facilities were available.

A short train ride from Brussels (8€ taxi ride from the station for 2, with 3 large cases). Loved every aspect of the hotel (yes, there are creaky stairs and no lift and you actually have to get in the bath) which was totally charming, comfortable and QUIET. The quiet was remarkable - we slept with the windows open, lovely view of the canal, and it was totally silent. We were a very short walk from the center of town and all the fantastic things to do, places to eat, carriage rides, canal rides and bike rentals. Would stay here again and again and again. Loved the breakfast, nightcap in the bar, and the camaraderie with other guests totally enjoying the hotel and town.

Room Tip: ask for a view of the hotel, or if you want to avoid the stairs, a room off the lobby.
