“Charming hotel at the fringes of the inner part of old town Bruges”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

If you look for a sleek designed modern hotel, this would not be your choice.
The interior design and rooms are a bit dated. But the excellent location at two steps from the main sights of Bruges and yet one step away from the noisy crowds pays off for that. Go a bit further behind the hotel and you find the quiet back alleys that make up the charme of Bruges.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with canal view.

This is a ideal hotel for exploring Bruges, Well situated, well presented, good breakfast, friendly , helpful and good value for money.
The rooms are warm and clean, and if you can book a canal view, great sized rooms with lovely views over the canal.

Room Tip: Request canal view rooms, these do cost a little more, but well worth the extra.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and were very happy with our choice. We arrived late morning and managed to get one of the parking spaces right in front of the hotel and were given a parking permit by the hotel manager. This had to be re-set every 4 hours up to 20.00 but wasn't a problem as the hotel was never more than 15 minutes walk from the sights of Bruges. A small price to pay for free parking for the weekend! The manager was kind enough to let us check in earlier than expected too. Our rooms were clean but slightly dated, although this wasnt a problem, and the mattress on our bed was really comfy. The hotel is in a brilliant location overlooking a canal from the back and a small square from the front and it was very peaceful. All the main attractions including the Markt were a 10 minute stroll away and there are lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. We loved t'Zwart huis jazz bar and restaurant which is a short walk from the hotel and is located up some steps opening into a fantastic room with a buzzing vibrant atmosphere. The staff are friendly and the choice of beer was great. Another great place was The Wall of Beer which has probably the best outside seating area in Bruges, overlooking the canal and once again a great selection of beers. The breakfast at the Bryghia was particularly good with a wide choice and everything being replenished by the owners as soon as it had gone. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is in a very quiet location within 10 mins walk of the Markt with a selection of different types of good restaurants en route - it is a perfect base for getting out and about. All the good comments in other reviews were borne out - we had a thoroughly enjoyable three nights there.

We enjoyed our stay at Bryghia Hotel. The room was very nice and cleaned everyday and the breakfasts were very good and with a lot of choice. The location was great, just a short walk to the main square. One little grumble is that the reception was often empty, but this is understandable for such a nice small hotel, although they were always helpful and polite whenever we saw them.

We booked to arrive on Thursday 25th April and departed during the weekend.
The hotel is a little dated and the receptionist was not very friendly (to the point of being rude). Location is pretty good and the room was clean.
Breakfast was nice- continental and the welcome from the breakfast staff was friendlier.
Very average, not sure if I would stay there again.

I booked to stay at this hotel on March 30th with Otel.com. On arrival I was informed the hotel was over booked (I made the booking 6 weeks earlier on Feb 17th!) and I had received no communication from Otel.com or the hotel to advise of this. The hotel owner informed me that I was selected to be moved to another hotel as I was one person staying one night only. I paid 99.12Euro in advance to Otel.com. I was moved to the nearby 2 star hotel Asiris (which was very nice-see my review).
The owner of hotel Bryghia was very polite and walked me to the new hotel, giving me 20Euro en route as a token gesture. I will admit hotel Bryghia looks very inviting and is well located, I was looking forward to staying there having researched it here.
My issue is that hotels should respect bookings through an agency in the same way as if they had booked directly with the hotel. Also, had they advised me in advance of an over booking I would have preferred a full refund and made my own alternative arrangements. Otel.com did not deal with my query satisfactorily. I will stick with Booking.com in future, never had any problems with over 100 reservations made with them.
