Set in a quiet square away from the centre but so easy to be exactly where you want. This quirky, comfortable hotel is a little gem. It offers charm and comfort and a good breakfast. Comfortable, clean and fresh rooms where we were undisturbed. The proprietor, Guido, has a good sense of humour and you are made to feel welcome in a quiet efficient way. Well recommended.

We stayed here in the first weekend of December 2013. We booked it as it was one of the cheaper hotels but still very close to the city centre. We were very pleased with the hotel. The reception was lovely and cosy but also a bit quirky (a lift door that looks like a bookcase!), and the staff were very helpful when we arrived. The bedrooms were modern and nicely decorated. They were spacious and had plenty of room to un pack and store cases. The bathroom was also a good size, modern and nice and clean. Breakfast the next morning was a very good continental breakfast where you could help yourself to as much as you wanted. The hotel itself was a very short walk to the main square and although we got a cab you could have walked there from the train station if you wanted to in about 20 or so minutes. Over all I would definitely recommend this as a comfortable and friendly place to stay; not 5* luxury but perfect for a weekend away that doesn’t break the bank, and I would definitely stay here again if I returned to Bruges.

We stayed for three nights, and found the location very good: near enough to the centre, but in a quiet square with little noise after dark. The room was of reasonable size, bed comfortable (apart from square pillows) and en suite worked well. The hotel itself is traditional in décor, with a lounge area on the ground floor, and was well heated. We were happy with the quality and quantity of continental breakfast, and the responsiveness of staff to any requests.

We stayed for 3 nights in December 2013. Arrived by train via Brussels (on the Eurostar) and walked to the hotel which took about half an hour or so and was a good opportunity to get our bearings. The hotel has a good location in a quiet residential area - far enough out of the main square to get a peaceful nights sleep but only about a 15 minute walk from all the action.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and our room was very comfortable. Modern it is not though - a lot of the fittings made us chuckle as were straight out of the 70's! (Think big wall mounted radio!). The only issue was the archaic tv which had a dodgy flickering screen and basically unwatchable. Not a huge issue though as we weren't there for watching tv. The heating was good and kept the room lovely and warm in the cold December nights. Bathroom was again not all that modern but a good size and was clean and functional (and we appreciated having a bath to soak our weary limbs after doing so much walking each day!). We are early risers so didn't have an issue but if you like a lie in this may not be the place for you as we could hear the shower in the next room and there was a lot of noise in the hallways once people started getting up and about (it's an old building and to be expected though).

Breakfast was great - croissants, breads, rolls, jams, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts, boiled eggs and juices/hot drinks. Replenished regularly and plenty available. The staff remembered what hot drinks we wanted from the first day.

All in all we were very happy with our stay as we got a great price for 3 nights and the hotel was everything we needed it to be which was basically a base for exploring this beautiful city.

My Wife and I visited this hotel on the 13th of December having booked only the day before. We found it easy to find on the satnav however parking was a bit awkward in the city centre, but got it sorted eventually. breakfast on the saturday was lovely and the room was also very clean and comfortable.

We also found the owners very accommodating when my wife went into labour and gave birth in the hotel early on Sunday morning. Our new son was 10 weeks early and clearly keen to not leave Bruges as its a lovely city. God knows what the other guests must have thought as my wife went into a very quick labour and gave birth in the room following the arrival of the excellent ambulance service and neo natal doctor.

I can confirm that the kitchen is large enough for an incubator and when I returned later in the day the owners were very kind and helpful even offering us food etc as we had to rush off to the hospital following the arrival of our new son.

So, in conclusion. Its very well placed for seeing the sights, has great value rooms and food, and if you end up having a baby there its very close to the hospital.

Room Tip: ask for a canal view.

Our second stay in Bruges in 2013 and we had 3 nights at the Bryghia. It's a great little hotel with comfortable rooms. Ours had a large bathroom with lovely hot bath, which was great when coming in from the cold after wandering round the streets and the Christmas market. The continental breakfast is good with excellent fresh rolls delivered every morning. One morning I was driving to Brussels for a meeting very early and the owners kindly made up a packed breakfast and delivered it to the room late the night before. The lady on reception is efficient but not so warm and friendly (mind you we'd been spoiled last time in Bruges by the really friendly and helpful Bieke at de Loft guest house). There was quite a strong smell of oil in the reception area and lounge. Maybe they have oil-fired heating and they had a problem or leak. Didn't really bother us as we didn't sit around in the lounge. Anyway all in all a great place for to stay for a break in Bruges, we'd be very happy to stay there next time.
