“Hotel of Excellence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2013

We have just returned from the Hotel Academie in Bruges and can honestly say that we have never stayed in a better 4 star hotel. The hotel bedrooms exceed expectations, they are clean, spacious and comprise of all necessary additions to make your holiday perfect. The staff are well mannered and the breakfasts which are included in the price are more than anyone could wish for, being a buffet style and with more than adequate choice. The friendly bar is lovely and outshines many we have visited before. We would not hesitate to return to this hotel at any time in the future.

Room Tip: To overlook the courtyard are probably the best choice;

What a lovely hotel. The room was very spacious, clean, and the bathroom excellent. Service excellent with extremely friendly staff very willing to help. They phoned our tour company for us to make sure it was still on a double checkeda restaurant booking for us. Nothing too much trouble.

Room Tip: We were in the old part fronting to the street and no noise at night and wonderful views of the town...

Quick check in, but do not expect reception friendly hellos or any other greeting- they concentrate on being efficient. Problems reported quickly attended to. Luggage room security is questionable since the door can be left wide open. Breakfast buffet is extensive and tables are cleared and reset very promptly, Lounges feel like sitting in a busy corridor but the seats are comfy. A very business like hotel.

Room Tip: All the rooms have ultra modern light switches, take a bit of getting used to.

Just returned from a short break with Riviera Travel and very pleased with the hotel. Very quick check-in and nice to stay in a hotel that still uses keys to lock the doors. Very nice room, with a bathroom which often doesn't happen to solo travellers as you usually get just a shower. The breakfast was buffet style with a very good selection to pick from. A nice courtyard in the centre where you can with or without a drink though it benefit from being non-smoking like the rest of the hotel. It is well situated being a short walk from restaurants, bars etc. worth visiting La Dentielle just down towards the river with a set menu of 15.95 euros. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you want a balcony then ask for 1st or 2nd floor.

My wife and I stayed at the Academie Hotel in Bruges for 3 nights in May 2013 and were very impressed by the overall experience. The hotel is small but quiet and is very centrally located.
The room we wrere allocated was ample with a large and exrteemly comfortable bed. Our friends who travelled with us were allocated a shower and bath with their room , while we only had a shower in our room . However the shower was very good and we did not mind not having a bath. The breakfast was buffet style and the food was great. The staff could not have been nicer. All in all I would recommend this hotel highly and that is why I give it a 5 star Excellent rating.

Room Tip: Our room was at the back of the hotel and we heard very little noise any of the three nights we stay...

I wish there was a good option rather than very good. The Hotel is fine, clean and very well sited. The only thing really missing is some ambiance as teh place inside is new-ish and a bit
clinical. It seems that this is a popular spot for coach parties/tours and as someone in my late forties I felt rather youthful ! That said Bruges in general is not a place where things get edgy. Underground car park was a bonus.

The pretty Walplein is around the corner, don't miss the brewery tour -our highlight on a rainy
short-break.

Amusing sign at the breakfast buffet threatens a 20 euro fine if you decide you need to take a pack-up with you - you have been warned.

Room Tip: Avoid room 132 next to some noisy equipment cupboards on very top floor.

Just, literally come back from stay at this Hotel in Brugge and must say pleasantly surprised. Rooms have been refurbished and very clean. Walls a bit thin and you could hear noisy neighbours, but that is more down to the lack of respect for others than the hotels fault. Great location and staff very friendly. Breakfast was plentiful, hot not so brilliant, but at the end of the day we are in a European country and they are catering for all tastes. Would definitely stay here again.
