We travelled with a Rivieira tour group and enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and everybody speaks English. The location of the hotel is excellent - there is easy access by foot to all the interesting places in Bruges. There are many restaurants just a short walk away. The hotel may not be as 'plush' as some 4* hotels, but the standard is definitely superior to the average 3* hotels we have stayed in. Our room was a good size, very clean and fresh, and air-conditioned of course. Unusually for a European hotel, it had tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The bathroom was beautifully tiled and spotlessly clean.
The buffet beakfast was very good, with a variety of foods available, including hot food.
We would definitely stay there again, and would certainly recommend it.

My friend and I had a long weekend at this hotel as a special treat. I requested a quiet room and got one at the back of the hotel. The only noise at the front was horses hooves from the carriages as cars are restricted within the town. We walked from the train station to the hotel - about 10 minutes and we were then about a 10 minute walk to the main square, through quaint streets. The hotel staff were friendly & helpful. The room was clean but basic (but thats all we needed). Breakfast was excellent - great choice of food and plenty of it which set us up for the day. We would definitely stay there again.

The public spaces of this hotel were pleasant enough, but the 4-star rating of this hotel is VERY misleading. Having not stayed in any other hotel, you can take my review with a grain of salt, but given the price tag of a 1-night stay (which is in the 4-star rate), I definitely didn't think the standard of the room warrented it. The deco is very sad and developing-world looking. The A/C didn't work as well. Net-net, I would not recommend staying here.

This hotel is 1st Class.
Our first trip to Brugge and I found this hotel on the trip advisor site, it had a good overall review, but the few that were bad left me worrying I had made a mistake.
All I can say is the people who found fault must be very hard to please.
It location is ideal, literally a 10 minute’s walk from the Train/Bus Station, and a 2 minute walk up to join the main street.
The hotel staff were helpful and friendly and spoke perfect English, we arrived early and we were given our room keys without any problem.
The reception is clean and modern. It has an area to sit and relax both inside and out, as well as a deep red velvet bar area.
Inside the hotel between floors is a pool with coi carp that runs under a little bridge.
The room itself was lovely, clean and modern, with a huge bed(larger than king size), it had a table and chairs as well as the dressing table, large wardrobe and TV.
The bathroom was lovely with both a bath and shower.
We looked out onto a side street onto a lovely building and gardens which we later found to be a church.
Some people had left reviews of having to listen to horse and carriages go past on the cobles…this was not a problem, sure they went by, but it was charming, part of the holiday experience…when do you hear horse and carriages at home?
As I mentioned it was a couple of minutes one way to the main street, but this did not make it noisy, just very convenient, in the other direction was lots of bars and restaurants, and the Lake of Love which is beautiful.
The breakfast was also very good, a mix of continental and semi English…do not travel abroad and expect to be given a Full English…if you want that stay in England. Apart from the croissants, rolls, toast,,election of meats and cheeses, cereals etc, was also scrambled egg with chopped bacon, boiled eggs and min frankfurters, it was very nice and I’d certainly choose it again.
We had a thoroughly lovely time and not only will we go back to Brugge we will certainly go back to the Hotel Academie, it was wonderful.

This is a pleasant hotel in an excellent position, being only a few minutes from the main attractions. The rooms are a good size - my only criticism being that the window area is rather small, leading to a darkish room most of the day.
The staff are friendly and informative and the breakfasts are adequate (the coffee is particularly good).
A small point but I did find it rather inconvenient having to pay cash every time we used the bar. We were a party of 8 and used the facility quite extensively but could not charge the bills to our rooms.
Internet access from reception is a rather hit and miss affair - mostly miss. The wi-fi had not worked for months and the wired internet connection was down more than up! For a 4-star hotel this was a disappointment.
We did not have a car but the car park in the basement will cost you €15 per night.
