When I arrived at the Botakiek Hotel, the owners informed me that they had only owned it for a week. Well, they are off to a good start. There are only 9 rooms, so you get a lot of attention and personal service from the owners, a friendly husband and wife team. The husband is a chef and bakes the rolls and croissants at breakfast, which is by the way outstanding. There is even a small bar in the hotel with the feel as if you are in a living room having a drink. The rooms are huge, especially for Europe, and mine had a rolltop desk and a huge armoir. The bathroom is modern and comes well stocked with toiletries. It is located about a 20 minute walk from the train station and about a 5 minute walk from the historical center. I could not have been more pleased with my stay at the Botaniek and I hope these new owners have much success.

Room Tip: Since it is located on a side street, there is no noise from the street, so all rooms I would assume...

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in January 2014. The hotel is located just in the center, 5 mins walk to Markt. The breakfast is good. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. We read in the forum that room no 9 has a great wiew and asked for that room at the time of reservation. I'm glad we did. Room No7,8 and 9 are located on the top floor and have a great view of the city through their large vindow.

Room Tip: Try room No9 ;)

Two important things in a hotel. Good shower and comfy bed. This place has both. The hotel is a little tired but the staff are very welcoming and helpful. Great central location and the views from the top floor are lovely. For the price this hotel is good value.

The hotel is ideally located in a quiet street, just a milestone away from the historical center of Brugge and the rooms and common areas are tastefully decorated, however, I haven't found the owner Andy to be particularly friendly and welcoming, since the other reviews for him are positive I might just have missed his better sides, or maybe it was just a bad day.
More annoying, I found a used tea bag and a used cotton bud on the table of the bedroom upon arrival and it seems like they had not vacuumed up the floor (found little stones and pièces of food...)
And most important, the day after booking that hotel via a travel website, I received an e-mail from the owner saying that I should have booked directly from the hotel as it would have been less expensive this way, not only was it tactless and inappropriate to send that kind of e-mail (sorry but I am mature enough to book the way I wish to...) but it eventually proved wrong as I get special tarifs via the website...

Honestly I would not stay there again.

The owners were wonderful and made us feel very welcome, Andy helped us throughout with any queries we had. Hotel was cosy and breakfast good. The only negative we couldn't help ignore was that the room obviously hadn't been thoroughly cleaned before arrival, other people's belongings under bed, dirty cabinets in bedroom and bathroom and recent dirt on the sides of the bed. The room also smelt slightly musty. The location and other positive factors made the negatives easy to ignore.

Nice quiet and comfortable room; bathroom small but workable. Breakfast standard, nothing special. Host/owner was helpful and this was a wonderfully comfortable and restful place. Free wifi, which isn't all that common in parts of Europe. Recommended by Rick Steves.
