“A great place to stay at Christmas”
Reviewed 29 December 2012

This is a great hotel for anyone wanting to spend time in Brugge. Its location is only a short walk away from the main centre and the service is here second to none. Unlike other hotels we have stayed in ,this hotel got it right from the start. We were greeted by a receptionist who was genuinely helpful and welcoming. She gave us a map and listed all the places to go and see and those to avoid to avoid being ripped off by overcharging restaurants.
In the past when we have booked a tripple room in different hotels we have been greeted with a cramped room made up for 3 by throwing a small bed in a corner .This is normally accompanied by having to go back to reception to get extra towels and cups etc as this was overlooked .This hotel got it right first time ,3 of everything and a decent sized room .The room was very comfortable and homely, the tv (if you really needed to watch it) had channels in english but luckily none of those drab news channels that hotels think are so important.
The room maids were very good ,our room and bathroom were always kept very clean.
I can fully recommend the breakfast ,I enjoy the meat and cheeses continental hotels offer but besides this a cooked breakfast was available along with serials and juices.
In the afternoon between 4 and 6 o clock there is a happy hour in the bar which made drinking in the hotel cheaper than going out .A pint of Jupiler was 2.50E and kriek beer was 1.50E which in my view represents excellent value. The bar itself was very inviting and comfortable.
The hotel is a short walk to the centre of town which had a christmas market and ice rink in the main squares .The old buildings are lit up at night offering a nostalgic feeling as you stroll along the waters edge. There are some great resturants which cater for all tastes and budgets, our hotel receptionist advised which ones not to go to ,thus avoiding being ripped off by hidden charges.I was surprised to see many shops open on christmas day ,along with snack bars and even the bus service running.
Despite the best efforts of the miserable weather we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Flanders and would we be going back in the future. If you want to get away from that corporate feel that bigger hotel chains offer then this the Flanders is the one for you ,more home from home and excellent service.

We had a very enjoyable stay here over the Christmas holiday, and found it to be a very nice property staffed with extremely friendly, well-informed and multi-lingual employees. Our room was large and clean, and the bedding/mattress were VERY comfortable (and I don't say that about many hotel beds, believe me). Just make sure you stipulate that you want or need a bathtub vs. just a shower when you book here. We didn't, but gladly upgraded (for a very reasonable amount) to get that option and the very deep soaking tub made it worth every penny more. The breakfast buffet was well-stocked and replenished and not stingy.. including things like warm pastries, smoked salmon, cured hams and a variety of local cheeses. Loved the little machine for cooking eggs! Very handy! Location was really great, just far enough away from the busy square to make the place PIN-DROP QUIET at night, but close enough so that the walk to all the "action" was a breeze. We loved our stay in Bruges, and plan to return to The Flanders when we vacation here again.

Room Tip: As for a bathtub vs. just a shower when booking if you need/want one.

We enjoyed our stay at the Flanders hotel during Christmas. The room was clean and spacious enough for the 3 of us, and we enjoyed the large and varied buffet for breakfast. The location is top - only a short walk to the market square on a charming and picturesque street.
It was also handy that there was a parking lot on site. However we did find out that there is a less expensive and very secure parking lot around the block from the hotel. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Tip: We would have appreciated it if they could have provided us with some concrete information about restaurants in the neighborhood which would be open on Christmas eve and Christmas day when we asked.
The pool was small but adequate. There was however no place to sit at the side of the pool. I had to share a stool with a pile of towels.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are very quiet.

It was our first time in Bruges, and found this hotel through tripadvisor. We stayed there for two nights, and our overall impression was very good: quiet, large and clean room (worth the price we paid for it), kind staff, nice swimming pool (although a bit small), a variety of fresh food for breakfast... also, the bed was very comfortable, and the lounge atmosphere was very relaxing... exactly what we needed after a long period of work. If we ever come back to Bruges, I'm sure we would choose to stay at this hotel again.

I was very happy with my short stay at the Flanders Hotel, it is centrally located and only takes about a 5-10 minute walk to the markets. The staff at the hotel were very welcoming and helpful with advice. I disagree with the other reviews as the breakfast was excellent and the bedrooms whilst not decorated in the same modern boutique style as the lobby, lounge and bar they are definitely 4 star due to their facilities (and it is certainly 100% better than a Paris 4*!) The bedroom was perfectly good, with a mini bar and tea/coffee making facilities. The beds were comfy and I had a great night sleep as the location is quiet. The bathroom was modern and very clean - loved the shower! The breakfast was excellent and they offer much more than the standard continental breakfast, there is a choice of hot items also (scrambled & boiled eggs, bacon & toast) and the range of items offered is quite large and not at all limited.
I booked my trip through trivago and I thought it was great value, I will be back!....

My wife and I visited Brugge over the period 16 - 18 december 2012 and stayed at the Flanders Hotel. The staff could not have been more friendly; the room was well appointed and clean with a good heating system. At breakfast we were presented with a wide variety of hot and cold choices and in the evening the bar was warm and welcoming - and the prices at happy hour were a real bonus. the decor is generally modern and may not be what some might expect from a 4 star hotel but, for me, it deserves its stars.

I discovered the hotel on tripadvisor and I was not disappointed. Located in the heart of the historical district it is a relatively central location yet still fairly quite. The beds were very comfortable and the breakfast was fresh and good range of choice.
I was traveling on my own and the staff were very helpful with advice about sites and dinner spots.
