“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

Well located just a few mins walk to the centre of town, there are some nice restaurants in the small streets nearby not touristy or overpriced (though nothing is cheap compared to UK).
The Room was very spacious overlooking the street, very quiet and bed was comfortable.
The toilet was separate from the bathroom and it was necessary to walk right round the room to was hands which was irritating.
The Internet was slow (but free), and the choice of TV channels not to my taste with English speaking channels limited to a few rubbish american ones, the TV was faulty on our last night but we weren't watching it anyway.
The continental style Breakfast was OK with reasonable range of food but nothing to write home about.
Staff friendly and helpful.

A basic and reasonably priced hotel, although 4* is stretching it! I feel it’s far more appropriate for it to be considered around 3*, I’ve stopped in far more luxurious hotels that are 3*.

Pro’s:
Close to city centre
Secure Bike Shed
Swimming Pool
Free wifi
Helpful staff in relation of places to eat

Cons:

Room:
Our ‘classic’ room was nothing like the pictures shown on the Flanders Website. It was dirty, hot, and looking very tired. Our room was overlooking the bar and outdoor area, which made for some very late nights unable to sleep as guests were loud with no consideration for those sleeping. The walls were paper thin and we could hear far too much from the room next door. There was a mini bar with reasonably priced drinks, but the fridge had no cooling and everything was warm. The most frustrating aspect for us was the how hot the room was, there was no air con or any form of cooling. The only solution was to open the window……which is unfortunately straight out on to the bar area below which I’ve previously mentioned. There is satellite TV, none of it in English at all. I appreciate you’re in a foreign country but it’s not hard to get a single generic English speaking channel (BBC World, CNN etc). Breakfast is available at a charge (naturally), I’ve stay in far superior 3* hotels that provided a better experience and still gave you breakfast free of charge.

Security:
I had parts stolen from my car in their own car park!! My bicycle carrier had ropes stolen from it, rendering it unsafe to carry both our bikes securely…. A great thing to find when you’re 300+ miles from home. I did see a guest eyeing my car up the night before, I didn’t think anything of it at the time. When checking out I informed the staff my bicycle carrier had parts stolen, they were not overly concerned or particularly receptive to hearing my problem. There is CCTV covering the car park and I could see an image of the car park refreshing on the assistant’s computer screen, all they had to do was ask me what time and very quickly we could narrow down when (and possibly by whom) it was stolen. But of course they weren’t interested and kept playing around with screens on their computer and gave the impression for us to be quiet and leave.

Litter:
I shouldn’t really be treading on discarded condom packets in the bike shed, along with a stack of dumped bibles. Okay great there’s the option to lock your bikes up, but seeing things like that doesn’t reflect well on the hotel and adds to the impression of not caring.

Reception:
The staff are usually overwhelmed when dealing with more than one customer, as a consequence you can end up waiting quite a considerable amount of time just to be seen. A rule of the hotel is to hand your room key in before going out. I appreciate they do this to stop customers losing them, but I felt uneasy giving our only access to our possessions to someone else. When you wait a long time to be served it can be very annoying (to get the key back) and it’s not fair on the customers or the serving staff. People are there to go on holiday, not wait around endlessly in hotel lobbies.

Will I recommend this hotel to friends?
Not a chance. It was a reasonably priced hotel but nowhere near worthy of its 4* ratings and we were victims of crime.

Room Tip: Book somewhere else.

We stayed 3 nights at the Flanders Hotel; booked through www.booking.com which was a very easy process; English language on website as well as through the hotel staff.
If you want a quiet room: specifically request a room at the back of the hotel. If you enjoy the livelyness of the historic cobblestone street: you'll have great time and view from the front balcony. We had a street side room and slept great in any event.
Ensure to book a room with the breakfast included: that's a fabulous deal and the breakfast buffet is a beautiful spread!
Hotel is within easy walking distance from the main historic buildings, churches and squares, and a short cab ride from the railway station. Hotel supplies an umbrella as well, to use at no charge for those walks in the rain: nice touch!

Room Tip: For a quiet night: specifically request a room at the back of the hotel, adjacent to the gorgeous in...

Just stayed at the Flanders for 4 nights and what a great hotel. Booked it though booking.com and didn't have to pay till we left, most unusual.

Great welcome from receptionist who told us all about Bruges and what to avoid. We had a Club room situated at the quite rear of hotel. Beautiful wet-room with disabled access and seat. Cool light box art behind beds. Lovely fish pond in cool courtyard outside of breakfast room perfect area to chill out.

Breakfast was continental with scrambled eggs and bacon. Great choice of meats cheese and pastries each day. Fill up at hotel as it will keep you going until your evening meal.

Got a 30 euro parking ticket outside of hotel and Sarah, one of the receptionists got in touch with town council and arranged to have it cancelled, what a great help.Thank You Sarah

Nice bar leading to the garden area that gets the afternoon/evening sun, great for a "happy hour" drink.

Spotless and clean throughout hotel and small but nice pool with fresh towels and changing cubicles.

Everything that you need from a hotel in a superb location.

Room Tip: Get a room at rear of hotel if you want a traffic free sleep, road noise is a lot less at night thou...

Great hotel, close to centre. Breakfast lovely, there was loads of choice from boiled eggs, bacon, scrambled egg, yogurts fruit, cold meats.......
I requested a quiet room and had to phone reception to find out what the awful noise was, it was the hotels air conditioning unit which was turned down but we then had people chatting as we were over the beer garden!! Staff very helpful and spoke really good English. Pool tiny!!
Bed so soft it was really comfortable.

Great location, easy walking to all Bruges attractions. Hotel was clean, good breakfast and very friendly staff who were always willing to help. The only minor issue was the design of the shower unit which inevitably sprayed water onto the floor of most of the bathroom.

Room Tip: I don't have enough information to recommend a good room location except that ours, 112, was ver...
