“A great little hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2008

I was a bit doubtful about booking when I read some of the reviews for this hotel, but was pleasantly surprised. Its a small hotel, but has a sort of family atmosphere. It was a lovely experience to stay in such a historic building, with wooden beams above you at night, and the bells of the local churches in the mornings.
Its convenient to all the main Bruges attractions, ( 5 minutes walk to the Markt, St Jans Hospital etc. 10 minutes to the railway station and Minnewater) the costs were reasonable.
Breakfast was simple but tasty and filling, staff were friendly, generous and helpful.
The hotels little street map was very useful

We ve developed a soft spot for Flanders, Bruges, and a particular soft spot for Hotel de Goezeput,

We ll be back!!

  • Liked — Its a renovated monastery, but not too renovated
  • Disliked — watch your head on the stairs, its a little low

Hotel De Goezeput was perfect for our needs visiting Brugge for the first time from the U.S. The hotel is a quick walk from the train station once you know you're on Oostmeers street (signs are not tooapparrent). We were warmly welcomed and the checkin was easy and quick. There were two fights of stairs to carry our suitcases but since we were traveling Belgium and France by only trains we packed light and it was an enjoyable ascent in the cozy hallways (and my wife and I are nearly 60!). The room was a delight with beamed ceilings and an awesome view of the lane outside the hotel aswell as the Market Belfry. The room was very large and the bathroom clean and adequate. The walk to downtown is easy as well through the quaint vilage streets. I'd recommend this hotel to most anyone.

  • Liked — Nice old world charm, good price, good facilities and a friendly entertaiment environment
  • Disliked — The American Express transaction would not go through.

This is a really nice hotel and we got it for a great price. We paid around £340 for flights and 4 nights at the De Goezeput through Travelrepublic.

We arrived late on the Thursday and were given a double instead of the twin we'd booked. We were told that they couldn't changed the room until the next day as the hotel was full - first black mark.

The breakfast was really very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. There is one computer with free access to the internet which was handy.

The rooms were clean but basic - the TV was tiny but we did manage to get BBC1 and BBC2 and could watch some of the Olympics before bed!

No drink making facilities in the room though and the staircase up to the second floor is difficult to navigate safely with narrow stairs and low beams.

The worst part of the stay for us though was in both of the rooms we stayed, the windows faced out onto the cobbled streets. (Which are practically everywhere in Bruges). Between 11pm and 3am there were lots of cars driving (quite fast it seemed) along these cobbles - the noise they made was appauling - it sounded like a train going past the window (which were shut - no double glazing). This meant that we couldn't sleep properly and was very disappointing. I would caustion people on this when deciding whether to book this hotel (or another in Bruges - ask for a quiet room at the back perhaps)

  • Liked — Value for money
  • Disliked — Noise

The location of this place is spot on, right in the centre of town, 2 minutes from some nice cafes and bars on the market square. The hotel is simple in its modern design withon an old building.

Its no show stopper of a hotel but for a simple, clean and well located place to rest your head its fine! Its very well priced for what you get, no complaints to make!

The bathroom was a tad small and a little caravan like - but no big deal for a night or two really!

Bargain find - shame the Bruges weather wasnt any better!!!

  • Liked — loaction is spot on

Easy to walk to from the train station. Good location just south of the city centre. Quiet street.. Agreeable wood-panelled public areas. My (single) room was only as pleasant as an awkwardly-partitioned space can be, but acceptable. On the whole clean, relaxed and good value. [Note that you may have to use the entry-phone by the front door if there is no-one around.]

  • Liked — location, price, quality
  • Disliked — awkward partitioned room

We stayed at this hotel for four nights this week. It was great, we paid about 5 Euro a day extra for a 'special' room and were given room 10 at the top of the building. It was really nice, a huge room with exposed beams and a wooden floor. The hotel is in a very pretty building and nicely renovated. The bathroom was small as mentioned in other reviews but it was all in working order and clean. Breakfast was basic but good quality and plentiful.
We traveled to Brugge by train and this hotel was in an ideal position, it was a ten minutes walk at most from the station and then a further five minutes past the hotel to the historic Market. We couldn't have been in a better location. So take a travel kettle if you want a cuppa in the room and get yourself to Goezeput!!

  • Liked — The room
  • Disliked — The smell of drains on the terrace one morning

After many hours searching online for a suitable hotel to compliment our stay in Bruges I came across the fabulous Goezput website. Beautiful pictures of 'tasteful arty' rooms, wonderful reviews on their website. Sadly the reality was for me one of great contrast. After a harrowing journey, most of which spent lost along the cobbled streets due to roadworks close to the hotel, which we had not been notified of, we reached the place at 2pm to an uncleaned room!

On reaching our room we were saddened by its unclean, cramped feel and the makeshift boxlike bathroom structure incongruously built next to the bed! The 'bathroom' or box was poorly ventilated, mouldy, smelly, and afforded very little privacy to its occupant! We were greeted by a used elastoplast on the floor!

There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, surely a basic requirement for even low budget accommodation in this day and age! The room had no internal locking system and we were rudely walked in on by noisy cleaners whilst trying to rest.

I would certainly not call this a family friendly establishment as we were kept awake by rowdy people in the hotel bar until a very late hour. The final affront being that our much needed lie in was completely destroyed by noisy builders in the adjacent property.

I was utterly disappointed by the poor standard of the hotel, I have stayed in more luxurious hostels and it grieves me to say that a travel lodge would have been preferable. We tried to give feedback to the hotel but they would not publish this honest review on their website!!
