We are just back from a two night family trip to Bruge where we stayed at the Jacobs Hotel. Our decision was based mainly on the positive reviews posted here. Having now seen it for myself I feel they are all fairly accurate and this is a budget style hotel, certainly with some flaws that are balanced by some redeeming features.
Pros:
Hotel has an attractive exterior and is in a good location in a quiet residential area, directly opposite a church that considerately turns off the bells during the night. It is only a short and pleasant walk to the pretty canal and then a few minutes more onto the main square and all the action.
The price is fair when compared to other more central hotels. We were a family of five and had two adjoining rooms and a shared bathroom. The rooms and the bathroom were clean. Our bathroom was of a generous size and had an excellent shower. There were the usual complementary toiletries provided.
The breakfast room is bright and attractive and the food provided was very good. Boiled eggs, ham, cheese, cereals, fruit, tea coffee, juice all set out on a central buffet and a basket of fresh rolls and croissants set out on each table accompanied by the soulful tunes of Nora Jones.
The staff we met were all helpful, friendly and polite. We were given a city map and some general advice about what to do and where to go.
Parking is very easy and convenient.
There was a nice glass bowl of boiled sweets on the check in desk.
Cons.
During our stay there didn’t really seem to be anyone in charge. There was a vague sense of hierarchy between the teams of very pleasant Polish staff, all going about their work with cheerful helpfulness, but there was an ingredient missing; it felt like the owner was away on holiday.
The interior decor is dull and very tired. I found the narrow stairs particularly depressing with thin stained carpet and drab walls that need painting. There is a lift, with a curious fake ceiling, that takes three people at a time but it has no sensor on the door so mind your fingers.
The bedroom furnishings were cheap and looked out of date, the mattress was adequate but thin. Our television was amusingly perched on top of a wardrobe. The room filled with up with mosquitoes and there was ample evidence that many previous occupants had invested time squashing them against the ceiling.
Our room was not ready at 2.00 and we were unceremoniously asked to wait until nearly 3.00 before being able to take up our things.
To my knowledge the little bar area was never open, although perhaps we missed it. There are no tea or coffee facilities in the bedrooms.
When my daughter opened her towel she discovered it contained the generous contents of someone else’s hairbrush. I left the towel on the floor the next morning in the hope that it would be replaced, and it was, the same towel appeared neatly folded back on the bathroom shelf.
So there you have it. Not sure if I would go back, it would probably depend upon the available budget but Bruge is certainly a fabulous little city.

Stayed here for 3 nighs early June and found the staff extremely friendly and helpful, We had a twin room which was a little small and basic but it was clean and apart from tea making facilities it had everything we needed. Breakfast was also provided. Very good location - just a 10 min walk to the Markt square and good value for money.

Hotel position is next to the center of the turist zone in a peaceful street next to lovely church. Rooms are small but beds are cozy. Breakfast is well too. Don't forget that is old building in old town, so if u have situation that you walk under deflection. Shower is located in the ceiling, shower caps missing, so it can be a huge problem if you don't want to wash hair.

good location - 5 - 10 min walk form main . square.if you lucky and there is space, you will have free car park in front of hotel. staff very friendly specially gentlemen with Italian accent. we stayed in room 203 with four poster bed. room quite big and clean . maybe bathroom need a bit renewal. its old hotel and you can not expect newest tv dvd etc- but who wants to watch tv when in brugee ?!
don't be put off by reviews people like "NAndrey" from London - if you look at his contributions- looks like all hotels he stayed are crap bad and worst every! - im thinking that something is wrong with person not with hotels. good value for money about 80 euro for b/b its not so bad deal .

We booked on the day of arrival, got an ok price. Guy at reception was very helpful on teh phone giving us directions, and then a nice warm welcome and friendly info made the first impression perfect. It is a quaint small old style hotel. do not expect the ritz, it does what it says on the tin. The room was small, as was the bathroom, but when in Brugge what do you want when you are out all the time. The market square and old town is about 10 minutes walk down some really cool cobble streets. The facilities at the hotel we did not explore, but breakfast was great, fully stocked pastries, boiled eggs, and free access to the coffee machine to make your own cappuchino.

Staff did a great job, hotel is old, but it suits it, it just fits with Brugge..

Enjoy!
