“Very nice hotel!”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

Very nice hotel as well as its staff.
Hsitoric / classic rooms plus excellent location.

The very thing that annoyed me was the mosquitoes.
We stayed there in early Aug and we had to open the window, it was too warm otherwise.
But the mosquitoes woke me up all night ...

It is a bit expensive for us as a young couple.

Nothing else to complain, will be back for sure!!!

Room Tip: our room was with a roof window only. Do get a room with a view of the garden or the street, that w...

My mother and I spent 4 nights at this charming, friendly hotel in August 2014. If you like corporate swish this is not for you. If, on the other hand, you like a stylish yet homely very individual and very friendly place, it is. The breakfast room overlooking the garden is enchanting and the breakfasts are fantastic - fresh fruit salads and a wide selection of breads, the traditional 'English' very well done, a wide range of cold meats and cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, cereal, yoghurts...
The rooms are all different. Ours was huge and stately yet warm and overlooked the pretty garden. You would be well advised to specify if you have a particular requirement - for twin beds, for example - or if you have problems with stairs. There is a lift but elderly guests would be better on the ground or first floor for peace of mind.
There is an elegant bar where guests tend to congregate in the evening to drink, read or just chat. The guests when we visited where a respectful bunch; friendly and from all over the world. Most stay just a night or two but some, like us, for longer.
Bruges is a lovely city and this a very convenient base to see it from. It is 5 mins walk from the centre but also close to more local, lest touristy shops and restuarants.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel and explain what you are looking for. If you are taking a double room but are not...

This is really a hidden gem. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite which has to be the most amazing room that we have ever stayed in! The room was huge with a huge bed and the bathroom was amazing. The service in this hotel is excellent with a great breakfast. You could smell the bacon in the morning - yum!

Room Tip: Junior Suite - the best room ever!

This was a last minute booking for 6 nights and what a great decision to book into here. We arrived by train so got a taxi to the hotel, which is a good idea with baggage. Only cost around 7.50 Euro so was worth it. It can be walked in around 20-25 minutes but with cases, definitely jump in a taxi. The hotel is only a short walk from the centre and so many attractions. It is in a relatively quiet area and we had no noise disturbing us during the night. The staff were all wonderful from the moment we arrived until our departure. Nothing is too much trouble for them. It was nice to actually talk to them about what to do and where to go. Our room was large and a pleasure to stay in. It had a king size bed and free tea/coffee facilities. There was also a mini bar which was reasonably priced, nice to see compared to British hotels! TV didn't have any British speaking channels but hey, we were in Belgium why should they. We weren't here to spend too much time lying around the hotel room anyway. The bathroom was huge. It had a bath with hand held shower as well as a seperate shower cubicle. The sink unit was spacious with plenty of room to lay out your belongings. A powerful hairdryer was attached to the wall in here too. Breakfast was served between 0800-1030 which was flexible enough for what we required. There was a good choice of cereals, for a cooked one there was sausage, bacon, beans and scrambled eggs as well as breads, cheeses, fruit and pain au chocolate/raisin, croissants and delicious chocolate brownie slices. I could quite happily eaten enough here to see me through to dinner late on. We never used the bar or ate there at any other time so can't comment on this. Overall this is a great hotel with fantastic staff. Will definitely be coming back here next time around

From the moment you step inside Hotel Jan Brito, there is a wonderful feeling of relaxation and attentiveness to your every care. The staff of the Jan Brito was incredible at every moment, so friendly, well versed in travelers needs and what Brugge has to offer. We arrived in the evening and most restaurants were closed, but Marcus at the front desk spent a good while with us drawing maps to late night pubs with good food. His taste was spot on! The grounds of the Jan Brito were stunning and well appointed with all the little extras that made it feel so luxurious. We stayed 2 nights in the family room with our two teenage sons. The twin beds were in a loft with 15th century beams. It was historic and fun as well as comfortable. The room had a mini bar, several windows, a safe, 2 televisions, a wonderful bathroom. We ended up sitting in the lush garden in the central court of the hotel several times, just to have a cool drink or discuss or plans for dinner. You could have snacks and drinks served to you there. It was so relaxing. The breakfast was delicious and generous -- eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit, yogurt, cereals, a whole table of different pastries, breads, donuts, cheeses, and jams. The breakfast room was elegant with great service, too. The front desk staff was impeccable -- always answering our questions and helping in any way, greeting everyone with a smile. Also, Hotel Jan Brito has bikes available to rent (both men's and women's bikes which are kept in a garage close by). Hotel Jan Brito had a staff member pump the tires and fix any issues and we were on our way! The bikes came with locks and were a terrific way to tour the city, whose wonderful sites are spread in different neighborhoods. There is a bike path that rims the old town center, along canals with windmills and is a spectacular ride. Don't miss the Lake of Love! It was very fast and convenient to return them to the hotel late in the evening after dinner. The bikes had lights, too, for riding after dark. Hotel Jan Brito was perfect in every way. Located just a few blocks from the highly populated city central sights it was perfectly situated to be a quiet retreat and yet only minutes to get to the Brugge historical spots. There was a public parking lot very close by so we stashed our car there and didn't worry about it. Hotel Jan Brito arranged our parking reservation. Can't say enough about this hotel and staff -- 5 stars! Highly recommended! We will return!

Room Tip: Family room was in the front, more historic part of hotel. Even though on the front street it was v...

Me and my partner returned to Hotel Jan Brito for two nights at the beginning of our trip around Belgium and the Netherlands and I'm happy to stay that it was a fantastic start to our holiday. The lovely room and comfortable bed were a relief after a hard days exploring (as was the hotel bar). The beautiful decor and the cosy atmosphere of the hotel never fails to make you feel at home. The breakfast is still a particular highlight, filling up on the delicious food was perfect for keeping us going throughout the day. The staff are also a massive credit, going out of their way continuously to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. But it's the location that makes it extra special, being only minutes away from fantastic cafe bars, attractions and local life. We can't hep but be drawn back to Bruges so we're hoping to come back again for Christmas!
