“Don't stay in Room 4!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2009

We chose this Hotel because of the wonderful reviews and 'romantic' nature of the hotel. We stayed one night and, despite having an airconditioner, the room was unbearably, stickily hot, and it is only spring. We spoke to the lady at the front desk about it in the morning and all she said was 'Yes, Room 4 is very hot, we get a lot of people complain about it'. I then questioned that if this was the case, why we were placed in that room when obviously the standard rooms weren't full ( you can tell by how many keys are hanging up behind reception) and she said that she didn't know. We didn't really receive an apology or any sort of explanation. Our romantic night away was pretty disastrous really because of this and her attitude was pretty nonchalant and uncaring. For this reason, I wouldn't go back

We placed a much stronger new airco in this room so the problem of the room being to hot is now solved.

Using the information from previous tips and hints we booked a Marquis suite and asked specifically for room 1. Well worth it as the suite is enornomous with a huge king size bed, mini bar fridge ( which is really handy for storing water). Ok this is not a cheap hotel, however few are in Bruges this does offer excellent value for money if you are going to spoil yourself. We were a bit worried about the hotels location (near a road) however we did not need to be as Bruges is so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Breakfast is the usual continential affiar with lots of bread, pastries, hams cheese and coffe and tea in a buffet style. There is staff on hand to do teas, coffees or hot chocolate, just do not expect to be served all the time.
The location of the hotel is excellent very close to the central market and near very good restaurants. We found a pub that served good food and beer and the service was excellent, expect to pay around £18/head for dinner. Very close to the hotel are some good local shops (2 bakers, greengrocer, newsagent) ideal for lunch on the move.
The hotel staff were excellent, very attentive and the rooms are very very clean, just remember to pack extra coat hangers. Would recommend for British travellers if you can to go by Eurostar as it is hassle free and again excellent service if you go Premier Select.
As for Bruge it is lovely and we would recommend hiring a bike for a few hours to go and explore the canal area around the town and definately do a canal trip as this is well worth it. Not loads to see and do , just a nice place to relax and unwind

First let me say that our stay here was not flawless. No, this is not a pan, or a bad review- I say this because a. I should be truthful and b. it's important to understand how things could have gone so wrong but yet, didn't.

We stumbled into the Jan Brito at nine thirty in the morning, after a punishing night on a transatlantic flight and some train adventures, and of course our room wasn't ready, but from what I saw immediately, I was very pleased. Lots of old world charm and authentic touches without being tarted up. We saw a fabulous renaissance garden which looked like what it did become, a lovely bright oasis at any time of the day.
So we ventured forth into Bruges, just scary tired and excited at the same time. When we got back, firstly they had to locate our key, which went missing. (Old fashioned keys that hang on a keyboard) and after quite a wait while they got another, we were told that the elevator to our room was broken and would not be fixed until the day after we were leaving. So we had to climb two staircases- one a dizzying spiral, and as I have severe vertigo, this was a major concern to me. As I was beyond tired, I nearly took the poor girl's head off, but she was very gracious nonetheless. The next day they moved our room to the main building; the room wasn't as lovely, but it was more than adequate. In fact, if I hadn't had the first room, I would have been raving about the charm of this one, for it was charming, with impossibly high ceilings and irregular beams.

The breakfast was lovely- actually better than the one I had the next week in the Hilton Brussels. Other than someone to chew your food for you, I can't think of anything else you would want. Cereal, yogurt, bacon, sausage, hardboiled eggs, scrambled eggs, meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, juice, water, coffee...and the cappucino, which you ask for, was lovely.

Exiting the hotel, if you turn right, then left, you come to the canals quite quickly- for my money, one of the loveliest is the one you see first. If you turn left and go straight, you come to Astridpark which is very nice. On the other side of the park, if you exit more to the right, there is a very nice fruit store and a butchers where you can buy cheese and ready made sandwiches.

So the location is great for this hotel, but for me, the most important thing was not the charm or authenticity of the buildings, or the breakfast, but the willingness of the staff to be helpful. They were incredibly gracious.

I'd come back to Bruges in an heartbeat, and hope that I can return, and if I do, I wouldn't want to consider staying anywhere else.

The room itself was perfect

We have fond memories of our stay here. We booked a standard room but they gave us a top of their line duchess suite when we arrived without us even asking or being charged more. It was like our private getaway in the back of the garden. We absolutely loved it. The whole place is so beautiful and charming and very conveniently located. We skipped their breakfast buffet, which wasn't included in the price at that time, and splurged on incredible pastries from the many bakeries we found. I highly recommend this place.

We're so glad we chose the Jan Brito for our three nights in Brugge last week. As other reviewers have noted, the hotel is only a few minutes' walk from the main squares, yet situated on a quiet street away from the tourist hordes. The staff were extremely helpful. We had trouble using the phone in our room (probably our fault, not the phone's), so they called for us to book all our dinner reservations and a tour that we wanted to take. Breakfast is tasty, plentiful, and free with the room. We were thrilled about this as our hotel in Brussels a few days before had charged us a fortune for the exact same spread. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom spacious. We loved the courtyard garden, which we used for pre-dinner drinks. I'd recommend this hotel highly for a relaxing stay in beautiful Brugge.

A lovely historical building close to the centre of Brugges. The receptionist was friendly and helpful, making us feel at home immediately. only a few minutes gentle walk to the town square. A good breakfast buffet in a pleasent room looking over the landscaped garden. We stayed in one of the smaller "Knight" rooms, which was still ample for a stop over though would be a bit restricted for a longer stay. All very clean and comfortable, though slightly warm with windows closed.

The hotel retains a lot of period features and these are displayed to good effect and form part of the charm, without being oppressive.

All in all, well worth considering.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and were really impressed. Lovely rooms with exposed beams and big bathrooms, a fantastic buffet breakfast between 8am and a very respectable 10.30am and a perfect central location for exploring this beautiful city. Despite the central location, the area was peaceful and quiet. The staff were great - they were really helpful and friendly, and we were given a map and lots of advice on things to do and places to eat on arrival.
