If I were to return to Bruges, a magical city in Belgium, I wouldn't even bother looking for a different hotel. We enjoyed every minute in this unique little hotel. It was perfectly located. It is in an old mansion that adds interest as opposed to the cookie cutter chains. It has been upgraded with luxuries and yet maintains it's quaintness. It is very clean. The included breakfast was delicious. It was exactly what we were looking for for our trip to Europe.

We only stayed for a night, but the hotel Jan Brito is fantastic. It really felt like a step back in time-actually the whole city did. The hotel is an amazing medieval building and the courtyard view from the room makes you feel like you are in a castle. The staff was very friendly, the free breakfast was great. The room was clean and comfortable. The only problem was the door handle kept falling off, so they should probably fix that. The location of the hotel is perfect. Its on a nice quiet street thats about a 3 minute walk to center part of town. I would recommend hotel Jan Brito without hesitation to anyone considering coming to Bruges.

We stayed in the Hotel Jan Brito for two nights after a night in Brussels. We wished that we had spent more time in Bruges/Brugge. We booked a middle priced room at this hotel and are so glad that we upgraded to this room. It was very large with elegant furnishings and decor. The room overlooked the street, but it was not a busy street so we could open the window for the breeze. It also had A/C that worked well for my father who tends to overheat. (it was unseasonably warm the week that we were in Belgium). I liked the location of the Jan Brito because we could walk along a picturesque canal to get to the Grote Markt OR take another street over a bridge and enter the square from another direction. It was close to restaurants and the shopping streets, but felt secluded, too. There is a grocery store about 10 minutes away where you can buy snacks and drinks if you want to forgo the mini bar option OR if you just need to buy a few items for your day-to-day needs.
The bathroom was modern and clean. The shower-tub combo had fine spraying power. The towel were thick- and there were wash cloths as well.
The hotel is in a former home (WOW! It must have been quite a home!) that has been remodeled. There are pictures in the hallway that show the process. It still has a timeless quality about it though. There are several areas in the hotel that invite you to chat with your friends over a drink that you can ask the staff for. The breakfast room looks out onto the garden and the choices for breakfast are varied; fruits, yogurt, breads, sweet pastries, scrambled eggs, bacon, lunch meats, cereals, milk, several juices, coffee, tea, and water. Music played quietly in the background as we ate and we could hear the birds singing outside.
This was my first time to visit Brugge and I really enjoyed our stay. This is a town that is best viewed before the tour busses have landed OR after they have left in the evening. It feels like you are one of the lucky natives when you stroll the streets in the morning or evening. The canal near our hotel is lit up at night and the swans like this corner of the canal with the lovely weeping willow draping into the water... I also enjoyed the bells from the tower that could be heard for over a half hour (as I enjoyed my first frites and a waffle with ice cream) while sitting in the Grote Markt our first night. Pretty cool way to spend an evening!

My husband and I spent two night at the Hotel Jan Brito during our recent vacation and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is centrally located, within easy walking distance of all the sights in Bruges, and the staff is terrific--very friendly, accommodating, and helpful with tips on things like restaurants and chocolate shops. The hotel exudes old world charm, from the lovely high-ceiling rooms and and interesting and furnishings, to the peaceful garden. At the same time, it offers all the modern amenties. Our room (a Chevalier) was very comfortable, although it faced the street, which tended to be noisy at night. The breakfast buffet was ample and tasty, and the staff kindly ensured that we could eat at 6:30 am on our last morning before heading to the train station. We enjoyed everything about our visit and definitely would stay at Hotel Jan Brito if we're lucky enough to ever return to Bruge.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Jan Brito in early September. The staff was very helpful in providing dining recommendations and holding our bags for the day while we toured Bruges after checking out. We stayed inthe Marquis room. The bedroom was beautifully decorated - very high ceilings with georgous detailing. The bathroom was magnificient, spacious, marble - and a full-sized tub. The hotel is small in size but big in comfort. Very nice front room with a fireplace where you can relax and have a drink on chilly evenings. Charming courtyard garden. Excellent location for touring the city. Outstanding breakfast including hot items. When we return to Bruges, we'll always select the Jan Brito.

Hubby and I (plus 2 friends) spent the weekend at Hotel Jan Brito and we all loved it. The staff are discreet but very helpful and friendly. Surprisingly, despite its size, Hotel Jan Brito has a very homely feel and you notice the calm and relaxed atmosphere the moment you walk through the door. We stayed in adjacent Baroness rooms (accessed via stairs or the glass-sided lift). Decor and styling differed in each room, but the tall ceilings, heavy silk curtains and dark furniture provided a stylish touch against the more modern wall coverings. The bathroom offered a more contemporary styling and the Roman blind covering the huge window took about 2 minutes to wind up or down due to its size. A buffet breakfast is available in the dining between 8am and 10:30am. There did tend to be a 'bit of a scrum' around the food section at times, so an earlier breakfast is probably recommended. Enquiring one lunchtime for recommended restaurants, a helpful waiter gave us the name of de Vlaamsche Pot (www.deviaamschepot.be) Booking is essential due to the limited number of tables. Traditional Flemish food is served and the beef stew is simply fabulous. Not a dressy place by any means, but a true hidden gem of a restaurant. We are so glad we made a reservation in good time as so many people were left disappointed when they arrived without one. Bruges is a wonderful place to spend the weekend and our stay at Hotel Jan Brito made it extra special.
